Just when I was about to disturb the moths in my wallet,Kudos drops the bombshell:no throttle on Ibex! Such a pity as it was set to be the only rival to the Tonaro range with crank drive and a throttle. Many of us find this to be easily the best type of ebike for our usage.Oh well,I'm £1295 better off till my excellent, faultless, near two year old Tonaro needs replacing!

Poisonally, I'm going to have a ride on one before writing it off - Maybe it doesn't need a throttle:

The whole new Kudos range look tempting to me.

If its got a good torque sensor it wont need one.

Like Garry, I believe a bike with a decent torque sensor obviates the need for a throttle. There are some though, I believe, which require a half turn or more of the pedals before the power kicks in. Perhaps they're not so good? My Panasonic drive is instantaneous and flies off the mark with just the slightest of foot pressure on the pedal.

Some people seem quite obsessive about throttles and I'm afraid it's lost on me. Maybe someone can explain for me what physical condition causes a throttle to be essential for cycling an ebike. I'm not looking for an argument on the subject; I simply don't understand why the throttle is such a priority for some.

I find a throttle useful for very tight low speed maneuvers, where I use one foot on the ground to help carry it out.
Especially useful if doing this on an uphill slope. The throttle keeps the motion flowing.

When you set off home from the supermarket with you shopping over you shoulder, you put your right foot on the right pedal, then open up the throttle, and as you glide away, you nonchalantly swing your leg over, settle down on the seat and start pedalling. With cruise control, you can stand up on the pedals and adjust your underpants without slowing down. You know how they sort of bite in after about half an hour. Also handy for wiping the smug faces off other cyclist when they're free-wheeling down-hill, you can free-wheel up-hill. Also handy for testing your latest hot-rod mods: You just lift the wheel off the ground, open the throttle, and you can see immediately on your speedo how fast it'll go. A throttle's much better for wheelies, although the kids in my road seem to manage ok without. I'm sure there's lots of other equally compelling reasons, but logic says that it's better to have one than not to have one.

...and I forgot: It saves your feet from getting wet when you go through floods.

Like fordulike says: In particular manoevering through those chicane-type thingies on trails, when I have Shorty's Trail Buggy on behind.

Other than that - The torque sensor approach may well suffice.

Hi, does this mean that you will have to peddle all of the new kudos bikes in order to initiate motion?

Cheers, Zack

Looking at the specs listed it does have a throttle? ;)
