I did not go to NEC but would like to make the German show next year as it will have the type of bikes that interest me...I go to Germany for motorhome shows also as UK lamentably poor in choice in this area also.

Surely a manufacturer wants to sell as much product as possible, so hardly makes sense to say Germans not interested in the UK. The German companies cant produce enough bikes for own market, let alone for export, but that is beginning to change. Bosch opening another factory in East for the new Bosch 2 drive and 11Ah battery (due next year). You can get a Bosch powerd bike for around £1500 so hardly out of this world and surely only a few hundred more then your prospective crank drive bike.

I have said this before... I dont think you can get what I consider an acceptable E bike at the 1k price, can just about get a non electric bike for that. At a major biking event E bikes will not seem so expensive compared with the cost of road bikes that can cost 2-10k +. Its all a matter of perspective.

I think David and Wisper as per usual doing an excellent job in driving UK based E Biking forward.

Eddie,if you have not been to the Eurobike Show in Friedrichshaven I guarantee you will enjoy it,but it is big you need 3 days minimum to look at the e-bike exhibits. You are meant to be a trader but I am sure someone will get you round that.
If you take your motorhome I suspect that you will need to reserve a pitch now,it is very popular. Similarly if you want to stay in a hotel you need to book rooms now unless you want to stay 2 hours drive from the exhibition. I like Meersburg, hotel by the lake-I have already booked for next year. You can fly Ryanair to Memmingen or Easyjet to Zurich.
The problem with the German bikes is nobody wants to stock them in the UK,both the KTM and AVE bikes are to order only-you are correct that the strength of the £ v euro has bought the Bosch powered bikes into the £1700 price band but if nobody has the nerve to stock them then deliveries will continue to be unreliable. Both KTM and AVE importers are not stocking the bikes here, all orders are one-off.
My next deliveries from China will be 2 off 45ft hi-cube containers, full of bikes that I know I can sell well into the UK. I would be nervous to buy 10 bikes from Germany.
Why don't you do it? You obviously have deep pockets, have a passion for these Bosch powered bikes,I am sure you could show us all the way forward for the UK!!!!!

I am interested in all sorts of e bikes and certainly not passionate about any mark in particular.....Saying that Bosch have done a hell of a lot to change perceptions regards e bikes. Appealing to sportier younger riders and getting rid of the granny tag the Kalkhoff and the like previously represented

My favorite bike is still my Visper Daahub powered specialized crosstrail. Just a shame that others have not had the chance to experience (yet) what a fine system it is.

I am early retired due to ill health and have more to worry about then e bikes and have never had any interest in retail, tried it once with demountable campers from Sweden (fit on pick up trucks) and a bit like quality e bikes simply to new and expensive for the UK at the time, the German dealer was and is very successful.

There you go again, Its not so much having deep pockets,I dont think 2 K a lot for a bike. its about different priorities. have seen in the past members with 80K cars not wanting to spend 1K on a bike... I ask you. Happy to drive our Fiesta as get a hell of a lot more pleasure riding a bike then sitting in London traffic!

I can`t understand why Dyson hasn`t had a shot at producing an Ebike , they use ingredients like motors , belts and plastics . He`s always banging on about producing more Engineers and then exports his production to Malaysia . He has plenty employed here on R&D , an Ebike should be a Friday afternoon diversion for them . Much more productive than the contra rotating drum washing machine that never got off the ground .

Hi Eddie...I see you mentioned Tops on Pick up Trucks....I was the first to introduce Pick Up truck liners and estate car liners to the UK,we had the biggest vacuum forming machine in the UK..it was very succesful until the BIC company developed a liner from polyprop instead of ABS...the company was Motec, sold out 30 years ago. We tried the x-boxes from the USA but these were not so popular. Always enjoyed bringing new products to the market.
Sorry about your health problems.

I agree, maybe its just missed his radar. I think the current uncertainty in the business world is making companies horde cash and concentrate on core 'cash cow' products, there's not much appetite for innovating into new products.

Something to suit everyone!!!!!
I absolutely agree, there is no doubt that sub £1000 bikes will always sell well, but there is a market albeit smaller for the more highly specified bikes. I think the real mistake would be to try and cover the whole market.

All the best

I've just trawled through this thread and would like to congratulate Dave of Kudos Cycles on his efforts to bring awareness of the delights of his leccy bikes to the North.

I am bemused however that the Peak District is considered to be in the North - it's a canny drive south for me! I'll probably pop down though and have a go on some of Dave's products as I would like to support this venture.

I suppose when you are based in Kent just about everywhere is north to you. A bit like everywhere is south to me (Northumberland excepted).
