Any other examples to back up the "they" comment? Firstly the front chainset is knackered and well past it's sell by date, and secondly, that damage has 100% been caused by rider abuse.

I'd happily call the owner/rider a liar, if they are claiming otherwise. The sprocket has clearly received an impact from hitting a hard object such as kerb or rock, and is no fault of Yamaha.

Well they say mid-drives eat your chain and sprockets.I did this to a cheap MTB chain set.

No electric just pulling away from a standstill in top gear.Don't do it folks.

Exactly. This is not chain damage. If this was chain related you'd think the mech would be destroyed too. If it is chain damage, l would like to know how it happened.

I really like selling KTM because we have almost zero warranty problems. The KTM e-race P is still the best hill climber around. I have ridden a Bosch V Yamaha set up. The Bosch feels smoother,very placid ride....your granny would like it. The Yamaha power seems to come in more aggressively.
Personally I prefer the Yamaha,you can feel it's working and the Yamaha bikes tend to be a bit cheaper.

The big unknown is the Yamaha motor, we tend not to hear much about it, good or bad.

I have the pleasure of owning a 2015 Haibike Sduro Trekking, powered by the Yamaha PW series center drive, currently 600 miles on the clock. So far the drive has proved to be very powerful when needed, but totally reliable as one would expect from a Japanese product. Although a bit harsh when new, the motor can now barely be heard above the wind noise. I am confident the Yamaha will match the reliability and longevity of the 26v Panasonic unit fitted to my 2010 Kalkhoff Sahel Pro Disc, the latter still capable of twenty-five mile rides at medium assist on its original 10ah battery.

But have you tried the new Bosch CX which is 25% stronger than Bosch performance? Its stronger than Yamaha at any cadence.And as far as I know the panasonic hub have heat problems at very steep hills.And can not be derestricted

I would happily ride a KTM or a Kalkhoff - both good quality bicycles.

But when it comes to an ebike, KTM is a clear winner because of persistent doubts over the Kalkhoff's motor.

The Bosch system looks more reliable to me

It is fitted to many, many, bikes so the few reported problems are a tiny percentage of bikes sold.

In contrast to Kalkhoff, lots of reported problems from a relatively small number of bikes sold.

Mmm, you really need to try these bikes to see which 'you' prefer. The KTM brand has real heritage (50 plus years) and they are very well built bikes, I get very very few issues on these bikes. Kalkoff bikes are not far from me here in Kingston, not knowing where you are but you could make the trip and compare. I also stock Haibike with the Yamaha motor and the Bosch CX motor really does 'pull' as does the Bosch Performance Line series of motors.

Tom,am thinking of replacing my Kudos Tornado with something quicker,I get about 20 mph with the display changed. Am looking at a Kalkhoff Endeavour S11 premium,which says 28 mph. Do KTM have a fast bike like the Kalkhoff.
I use the bike for work commuting.
If you remember I tried the Kudos Rapide which I got 23 mph,but like 28mph better.

Bit of a red rag to a bull for KTM of this forum who is the importer. KTM do sell S pedelecs but he won’t sell any in the UK unless the buyer can prove he has legal usage of private land without any public access.

Lots of threads on this topic here if you want a read. Some of them quite heated….If you really must go that fast you would be better off with a CD conversion on a good quality bike. The 350w ones will go very fast - for a bicycle with bicycle brakes - and even the legal 250w ones will go a lot faster than is allowed if the LCD is changed. Or dongle a ready made and damn the warranty.

Check theft insurance and personal liability though….No insurance will be valid if the company finds out that the bike is not legal to use.

The Brose dongle is very discreet. A wire with a jack is connected to the controller and the dongle just plugs into the jack. 2 seconds to pocket the thing.

However we have never sold one in the UK, because we value our access rights to the places ebikes are currently allowed and we strongly believe that we as an industry should not be encouraging people to use illegal vehicles on the roads and trails of the UK.

If you google the model name there are a number of sellers in Germany, From www.bikediscount.de.....they had a price of euros 4499.00 incl 19% German vat. It has 350 watt Bosch S-class ,29" wheels,frame sizes 43-48-53 cm.
Shame it looks a lovely bike,I would love to sell it in the UK but cannot fault the ethical and legal stance taken by the KTM-UK importer.

Thanks Dave.... and I agree we'd love to sell them over here.

But can we just clarify, that if you buy this bike from Germany and use it in the UK.

You will be riding an illegal moped on the roads, without tax, insurance or MOT, and you won't be wearing the legally required helmet.

There is no way of you using it legally.

The chances of being caught are slim, but we, and many other legally responsible business are working with Trading Standards and the Police Forces around the UK to increase awareness. Because yes, its not illegal to sell sPedelecs in the UK... we could do it. However its not legal to use them, so the shop owners who do it are making a quick easy buck and putting all the risk onto you as an individual.

If you're happy to take that risk, go ahead - but please also check that your husbands / wives / children etc are happy with the risk, because should you be involved in a serious accident and its found that your riding an illegal vehicle, you will not be covered by any insurance and you are likely to be found responsible for the accident.

This is not me scaremongering... its simple fact. The level of risk of this happening can be debated all you like. But at some point an sPedelec will be involved in an accident that's high profile.

I also don't want to see sPedelecs and dongled bikes being used illegally on cycle paths and offroad trails around the UK as this could seriously damage the access rights of legal eBikes and even normal mountain bikes as land owners and event organisers won't be able to differentiate between them so will simply ban them all.

Its up to us as an industry to self police this to ensure we have a sustainable business moving forwards and companies like 50Cycles who are at best selling irresponsibly, and at worst simply miss selling are not a good example of how eBike shops should be operating in the UK.
