We're all on tenterhooks, Burncycle! Even those of us with Agattus already. Longing to hear all about the new models. The Agattu is more or less perfect so your's may actually BE perfect I suppose!

I'm still waiting for the diamond frame Agattu, expected first week in March. As soon as I get it I'll report first impressions on the forum.

Well, Music, it's going to be really interesting to hear if and how the diamond frame differs in feel from the wave. The trouble is going to be that short of riding one after the other how will any of us know?? Anyway I've got my fingers crossed for you it won't be long now.

I think you need to read this post dated 18/02/08, from 50c regarding expected delays for 53 & 57 cm diamond Agattus.

John

"On that note I am afraid there is one particular model size that is delayed until 30th March which is the 53+57 Diamond Frame Agattu. We were going to contact all our customers today but have been some what distracted with the last few hours of events. However due to the delay we understand people will be getting impatient and rightly so, so we would like to offer any customer that has already ordered or left a deposit a free set of panniers or wireless Speedo. Obviously a refund is open to anybody without question. If you would like to know your confirmed date please call our office on 08448005979 or we will contact you personally very soon. We are operational but a little winged so bare with us for a couple of days please."

Hi,

I too have ordered a Pro-Connect (Gents 57cm) and was told Mid-March when I placed my order 2 weeks ago. I've just noticed that availabilty date has been changed to April, but haven't contacted 50Cycles yet to see whether this affects my bike.

Bad News Burncycle!! Just chatted with Tim at 50Cycles via website. Unfortunately, due to a delay with the Panasonic motors, Kalkhoff will not be manufacturing the Pro-Connects until mid-April. The bikes were originally meant to be manufactured yesterday.

I'm feeling a bit gutted. Could be late April by the time we get them - if nothing else goes wrong.

This news doesn't surprise me.

When Giant discontinued the Lafree series Panasonic would have reduced production as they were virtually only left with their home market and the tiny number of BikeTech sales.

The sudden resurgence of bikes using their units, six brands now in many models, and some of them much more competitively priced, has meant a big leap in sales, and I'd already wondered about Panasonic's ability to suddenly increase production.

It's things like the low volume alloy crankcase castings and precision engineered helical gears which are likely to prove resistant to sudden leaps in production volumes.

Still, we've lived our whole lives to date without one, so whats a couple of weeks or so extra. That wouldn't worry me, though I'd have gone beserk when I was a kid. :)

Sorry Flecc but I've been waiting since late November and despite my regular contributions to the forum, I am still a pedelec/e-bike virgin... a sorry state of affairs really.. I too spoke to Tim on the website and he has been promised that the 49 cm gents frame Agattus will be here next week.. but we were cut off in mid conversation as he had to speak to Derby cycles on the phone.. so the situation may have changed..It's a case of holding nerve for another week..

I have to say though, I am very concerned about this ongoing situation and I know that although I'm sure Tim and the 50cycles team are doing their level best to sort it out, we are at the mercy of the manufacturer. I have begun to doubt the reliability/stability of the whole e-bike industry ( manufacturers)

I am very afraid that one more delay may force me to cancel my order and give up on e-biking for good. :(

Damn, damn, damn!! I'm so very sorry to hear that, and there just isn't anything useful to say. Do try and hang on in there for as long as you can chaps. This Pro Connect is obviously going to be one hell of a bike when it does arrive. :(

To be fair musicbooks its not just the ebike industry, I ordered a Kona non electric bike at the end of January, it was supposed to be here mid Feb but is now delayed until mid March. Like the Kalkhoff it is a brand new model.

C'est la vie, it arrives when it arrives. Is my attitude.

After 3 months though I think you are allowed to go berserk!

I am sure it will be worth it when the bike finally arrives.:)

There has been a well known issue on component availability for years in the cycle industry, not unique to e-bikes. There's more than one cause, but chiefly unique or dominant suppliers, coupled with big fluctuations in demand.

For example, if a big order for certain Shimano products results from a successful model introduction, that causes a shortage elsewhere due to this suppliers dominance. As I've pointed out above, the position is worse when an item is unique to one supplier as in the Panasonic motor unit. As someone with experience in relevant areas I know how difficult it is to avoid or subsequently alleviate these situations, and I've explained above why responses cannot always be quicker.

I don't understand why there's so much reaction to this where it concerns e-bikes, since I've seen the same happen with a wide range of things from furniture to car models, delays and missed delivery promises being common in all manner of goods for similar reasons. The impatience can't result from missing the ideal cycling weather. :D

Why not just buy a bike that is currently available then? There are Wispers here and in Germany, step-through Agattus etc etc. Giving up on e-biking for good when you've never actually ridden one regularly, just because the Pro-Connect is delayed (just like the diamond frame Agattu...... all over this forum) seems a shame. Everyone else is out there riding them in one form or another and you're waiting for delivery on a Kalkhoff and thinking of packing in completely.

Get yourself one of the German Wispers on eBay, check the controller wiring and correct it if necessary and then get going, I'd say :)

Trouble is J, and I researched this thoroughly with the help of the fewand the many on this forum, I live in a very hilly city and there are only one or two that can cope with the gradients and my daily commute effectively. I can't risk the substantial cost of e-bikes to find that the bike can't hack it. Hence, my choice of the Agattu
