After years of having various electric cycles and testing many more I now have the perfect one. I have owned an Giant Lafree and a Twist a load of rubbish in-between (tornado eco and a Kursar and a powerbyke) I then owned a good bike a Smarta from the Cambridge electric bike shop which was great value but not perfect. I tested a Haibike which was ok. I then ordered my next bike which turned out to be perfect for me......and it is......A Kalkhoff Tasman 8. It has 8 hub gears lights that stay on at junctions, impulse 2 with torque sensor, hydraulic brakes, great computer with handle bar controls, mudguards, rack, adjustable seat and handlebar height and telescopic forks and seat post. Bought in 2016 as a 2015 model. £1499. Just thought I would tell you! Have done a few hundred miles and enjoyed each one.

This is the problem here! I was told if you praise a bike on here you would get comments like yours! hundreds of thousands of Kalkhoffs have been sold and a very few that play up are blown out of all proportion here. I do have a warranty for two years but I know a good electric bike when I see one! Unlike you.....

did you lose a relative in the last war or something just as daft to have something so against Kalkhoff's. I am in a position that if something goes wrong I will buy another. A bit more difficult with your pension.

id buy 1 but not with that motor and get 1 with the new evo motor :)

maybe they will replace it with 1 of those when it does start clanking and need replacing.

I guess you have clearly done a lot of research before buying that bike then. Good luck to you, and I hope you live near a shop, don't mind having the bike off the road for weeks, and are not planning to keep the bike beyond its warranty (as it could start getting expensive)...

I do have a warranty for two years
Yes you do, along with the well known, "award-winning" 50 cycles aftersale service... I hope you realise that warranty does not necessarily mean instant repairs. My first fault took the bike off the road for 2 weeks, and then required another 2 visits to the shop. For my second fault, they have had the bike for 2 weeks, and I have received no phone calls or emails.

but I know a good electric bike when I see one!
Yes, the bike is well made, in term of mechanical components, gears and frame. Yes, the bike ride will be enjoyable.
However, there is one component which is a bit behind in term of quality and reliability...

I am in a position that if something goes wrong I will buy another.
You seemed to be very proud about the discount you got, but if money is not an issue, then maybe you should have considered something else...

I hope you are pleased with your bike, they are nice welk built machines.

However, the evidence seems to suggest that there is a problem with the impulse motor. I have owned a Kalkhoff for many years and have had excellent service from it. I would not touch the latest models fitted with the impulse motor with the proverbial bargepole until they get it sorted out.

The way that they are treating customers, making them pay for repairs and the sort of delays that are reported on here is disgusting. I don't believe that it is totally 50 cycles fault, but Kalkhoff deserve to take a big hit in terms of reduced sales as a result of this. They should be replacing all impulse to Motors with the latest design free of charge.
