My thinking is that it doesn't project anything like far enough forward to be of any use so by the time it has identified road defects you won't have time to avoid it, so at best it's useless and at worst it's dangerous plus as EddiePJ says what use is it off road better to save your money
That was my thinking as well. As a rider, you shouldn't even be looking at anything that close. Any defects or objects in the road should have been registered way before that point and preparation/ avoidance already made.

If you actually add a light to see where you are going the grid would be invisible anyway.

A very wet south Derbyshire today, with a 4th and impressive 5th for a 9 year old starting right at the back in a big field of U12's .
I've been using a haibike sduro allmtn RC all off road use in NW England since Sept and have ridden it in all weathers and fairly arduously off road. Within 50 miles one of the rear suspension pivot bolts nearest the deraillieur came loose and fell out. Replaced in double quick time by bikeshop24 (German based seller). Now the bike has developed an electrical fault where it won't switch off and boots up as soon as the battery is fitted, this fault develops to a total electrical failure (my guess as an engineer is its due to water ingress to the motor). fault reverts back to the wont switch off fault when bike dried off. bikeshop24 have quickly sent out a wiring loom and display in order to pin down the fault (FFBS: fault finding by spares). fault still exists. So looking like the fault is in the motor. i'll keep you updated. Anyone else got problems??
probably would with Yamaha too, the point at which the wires enter the motor via a rubber grommet which is on the top (so easy for water to sit on top of it) the wires are bent over to fit within the frame on assembly. this bend causes a visible gap (only small approx. 0.25mm.) giving potential for moisture/water to ingress it to the motor housing. I'd suggest that Haibike need to add an additional sealant to the interface between the grommet and the wires (X7). I've not seen a 2016 model to see if it's been remedied. Anyone have?

One 11-42 rear cassette, on one dirty bike, from yesterday nights ride.
I had anticipated a new rear mech and longer chain, but the only thing required, was a slightly longer 'B' screw.
