My batteries arrived. No problems, well balanced according to the tester I ordered at the same time. Still waiting on the money to order the rest of the bits so I can get out and try them.

Did you go for the LiHV ?
Was just thinking whether the nominal 'storage' charge volts will be the same as normal or whether that will increase too?

No I went with the normal ones because of the discount.

I've been doing some design in my version of SolidWorks This is the short version.



The long version has room for (to my great surprise, tiny, tiny triangle on this frame) 20 Ah as in 2S2P 10 Ah batteries. It is also destined for cable routing including the hydraulic brake tube and in the 10 Ah version has storage room for an inner tube and tools. There will be a fold down lockable door on the side of the box for access.

In the immediate future the batteries will be housed in the world famous IKEA Lipoly battery box with Multistar green lid...

I ordered a pair of 16Ah 4S Multistars yesterday so I can run my BBS02 at 14S.
If I ordered them from the UK warehouse they would have cost £122.10.
I ordered them from the European warehouse instead with UK delivery and the total came to £81.98 !!

Because they are on promotion. Grrrr almost the same price I paid for the 4S 10 Ah... Which are no longer on promotion Yay! I got it at the right price.

I measured and 16 Ah won't fit so it looks like a 4 pack 20 Ah set up is my way forward still waiting on charger so I can test what I have, early days yet for me.

Today's offer 4S 20 Ah at 46 € three of those in series gets you a 48 V 12S 20 Ah pack for under 140 €... And you will be sipping from it at 1C or less (thinking of the GSM with the controller set to max 18 Amps).

I noticed the 4s 20ah yesterday afternoon at 35 £ odd each loitered on the page for a few mins and they were offered for a tad over £31. I placed 3 in my basket then went and made some cardboard examples to see if I could get 3 to fit in one of the V2's pouch's, the fit was to tight so kept my money.
Currently with 44.4ah of lipo at hand that should keep me going for a while.

My second order with all the missing bits just shipped this evening so next week will be my Lipoly initiation. XT60plugs and wire and charger and Watt meter etc. etc. SWMBO is providing the power supply from the computer she bought to help her daughter to pass her Baccalauréat I am guessing 180-250W output. The controller and Li-Ion bottle battery lead will be equipped with XT60 plugs so that I can swap between batteries. I will make a long enough wire (yes heavy gauge) to go from the pannier bag holding the Lipoly pack to the controller. So I should have two 10 Ah batteries and double the range for Spring (which will be back soon)!

For "Number Two" I haven't decided on where to put the battery and how many Ah yet. Bits to begin the build will also be arriving next week, exciting times! One man and two pedelecs, I'll have to figure out how that will work... For the moment I think that "Number One" will be parked in the street with a large "For Sale" sign.

Which charger did you go for?
Have just noticed the batteries have the XT90 plugs, did you go for a convertor lead or spare XT90's to make your own?
I've also just noticed how cheap the 6s 10ah and 8ah bricks are too, I'm so tempted but I just don't need them.

Did a parallel bulk charge session today and timed the charging at 1.5 hrs for the 6s ( 31.2ah ) and 1hr for the 4s ( 31.2ah ) starting at store charge of 38.3v and set psu's to finish charge at 41.5v to give some leeway for any over charge. Nice to know that I can now charge them up just before I set out instead of a charge the day before and leaving them over night.

I know I'm not AK but I cut off the XT90 on my 6.6ah's and soldered on XT60 which are more then ample as they are rated 60a far more then we will ever need , the RC heli guys need the 90's though.

Turnigy Neutron 80W charger because it seems to do everything I need (and LiHV if and when) for 30€. If I get serious about Lipo I will get a more serious charger.

I bought a bag of XT60 plugs and XT60 series connecter so will start off by replacing the XT90s and put the XT60s behind both controllers as well.

If this works for me I think I will be more inclined to have several 10 Ah packs (36 V 6S + 4S) which I will either swap when empty or parallel to 20 Ah. They are smaller, lighter, cheaper so I can play with modules depending on distance to travel in a day. If one goes bad no tears binning it. Or...

Like d8veh suggested go with a 48 V controller and move up to 12S. Then the big capacity packs on sale will require me thinking about how to carry them on the bike.

2x 6s 6600mah on the way to me for about £22 each delivered. 6600mah will hopefully be enough to get me to work and back when I eventually start using them.

My order with the battery charger took 4 days to go from the HK EU warehouse to Utrech so it is still in the Netherlands

Yesterday I modified the computer ATX power supply. I am not doing a fancy modification with banana plugs and the whole works, just trimmed, shrink wrapped and got unneeded wires out of the way with a tie wrap. I will use a domino to connect the power supply lead to the 12 V wires.

Dont forget to enter the warranty codes from each battery into the HK website within 24 hours to activate your warranty.
Busy morning here but will get them on the charger this afternoon and see how they perform.

Not being confident about changing the battery plugs again I will get one of these series leads instead and change the male output plug to XT60 or Anderson.

Now why didn't I think of that! I looked at all kinds of adaptors. Oh well. I thought that part of the painful learning process must be that you have to change the battery plugs at least once in your life.

Be VERY careful if changing the plug on a live Lipo as the slightest touch can cause KFF (Kentucky fried fingers).

It can also destroy the battery.
Far safer to get a lead off ebay and alter that before attaching to the battery.

If you need to change the plug/fitting it is safe if done proper, more then likely the pic is because the 2 leads wore cut together and shorted. I had no issues changing xt90 - 60 on my 6600's only cut ,bare, solder and heat shrink one lead at a time and make sure the polarity is correct.

I may have messed up with this.
I've just bought 44v 6.6aH battery = 290w
I put my Watt meter on with my current old 36v battery and one direction into work tells me I used about 3.5aH and/or 130w (on 36v)
So to get to work and home should I have got a 7ah battery (I don't have) or at least 260w battery (I do have) ?
