is there not the electric transport shop in York city, have not checked out for a long time, might be gone by now, but worth a check.
Hi Nealh, apologies for my lack of technical knowledge but what is a mosfet?Have you carried out a Mosfet test on the controller to see if one has failed or failing ? The controller has many components and is impossible to check except for the mosfets and a visual generally for anything that looks damaged like a resistor.
Disconnect the battery and probe between the controller v- and each of the three phases using the 200k scale all three results should be the same any one widely different means a duff mosfet /controller also check between v+ and the phases all results should be the same, the latter may only register infinity or one which is fine if ay read zero then you have a duff mosfet.

Thank you, very kind of you but what does it look like and what does it exactly do?
The appearance can vary to a degree but could be like one of these, there will be several of them, most often on the perimeter of the circuit board.Thank you, very kind of you but what does it look like and what does it exactly do?
Thank you. I assume it is inside the controller. Are they replaceable or do I need a new controller? The appearance can vary to a degree but could be like one of these, there will be several of them, most often on the perimeter of the circuit board.
Their job is to transmit the pulses of electrical current to the phase windings of the motor at the correct times dictated by the controller.
Yes they are replaceable, about the only part of controllers that's worth replacing. However they need to be tested to ascertain if one is faulty. If as it appears, you have no electronic knowledge or experience in replacing soldered in components, it's probably best if someone with the relevant experience tests and if necessary replaces.Thank you. I realise that would take you back to square one of seeking someone to do just that but I can't see any other practical way. Perhaps the repair cafe suggestion at the top of this page is a possibility of finding that help?
Alternatively Electrcic Bike Sales boasts it has experienced e-bike technicians in all it's shops and they have one at York. Information Link
