My Q was aimed at Whoosh as his post intimated he knew the pricing and therefore indicated he was producing one too.

Glad to hear Wisper is looking at alloy too. I actually find this bike an exciting prospect and am deferring my buying process until I know whether this is or isn't going into production.

My ideal spec would be carbon, hub gears, di2'and gates belt. Time to start saving Maybe David may want someone to test a prototype???? Please

We have a non working prototype E7000 motor but are not allowed to discuss detail or send images until after Eurobike. Jeremy has tested it at Shimano and we are certain will be perfect for the job.

We certainly could do a deal on a prototype if you would do some test reports for us, based on the encouragement I have already received from the trade, the first frame is being made now.

the way CF bikes are made, the shapes are different even for the same purpose but as a ballpark, for a £2k alloy bike, you add about £600 for a hardtail or hybrid, £800 if you have a rigid fork to cover extra material and labour, design/IP cost needs to be added on top of those prices.

I use the alfine 8 and have had no problems but it needs some way to adjust the chain I use a spring loaded alfine tensioner.
I also have my alfine 11 used for about four years with out a problem, have not tried it motor powered yet
But you cannot change gears under power I pull the brake lever gently to cut power that will not be a problem with a steps motor and d12

Not sure 11spd would be of any use in this frame. I'm running 8spd with Activeline (48nm) and 2.1 ratio, it's good for 20-23mph in 8th gear while still handling all but steepest climbs with ease in 1st.
New Nexus 5 combined with a 60nm motor should give similar performance.

I am in a quandary.

We have designed a new step through frame in carbon. Our target audience is larger, heavier riders wanting a stiff, solid, light weight frame with high end components. Shimano 7000 series and in frame removable battery. The bike will retail between £3,500 and £4,500 depending on specs.

Obviously the bike is not only for the larger and heavier rider but it will cater for those guys too.

Am I completely barking?

I would not say you are barking, but it seems a lot of money for an electric bike! I know I've mentioned the Radpower step-through before, but that is a meaty bike that converts to about £1200. By all means produce a bike for the larger rider, but surely alloy is adequate. Just my two penn'orth.

I think I tick all the boxes of the original post. I have a Volt Metro LS. I could have gone for the Volt Axis, but this was compromised in my book, not having shocks. As I am on the large size I opted for the extra large capacity battery, to hopefully give me the range of the standard size battery + a little extra range. The rating for the Volt is for someone around 11 stone, that's not me!

I don’t see this as a bike just for the heavy rider. It’s ideal for those wanting a bit of style. Older riders who can’t get their leg over. Oeer missus. Ideal for techie commuters. In fact ideal for 60-70% of the market. Especially the “built to order “ route which allows for a range of specs.

Downside is the cost of demonstrators. To encourage dealers these would have to be subsidised.

Are you considering various sizes? Or a one size fits all?

We already have step through bikes that will cater for 20st at £1,149 and £1,599. This is more about building a super bike for the larger and taller amongst us.

Crockers for instance wants a light weight bike with Di2 and hub gears. The Ultega Di2 set retails for around £2,000.00!

So add a frame and bits and pieces and we’re looking at £2500 lol.

Drop the larger / taller mantra. It’s for someone wanting quality from a reputable British manufacturer/designer.

Use the “built to order” to your advantage. “Designed for the individual “. A marketers dream.

If it was light. And fit for a smaller person my wife would love one too.

Mind you she may be too small lol.
