Haibike Bosch 2014 motor protection

You can also visit an AVE stockist and see the 2012/2013 XH-5/XH-7 models, as they have been using an upturned motor for some time.
The newer bikes are using the Acive and Performance though, so normal positioning.
For anyone concerned about AVE's future, as I was, they are apparently safe now that they have been bought out by Pantherwerke International which is the same guy that owned Pantherwerke AG-apparently both of these companies have existed side by side for a while anyway.

Hi Col,

The Gen1 Haibike has the motor mounted above the down tube, this gives maximum clearance and keeps the motor protected.

But that is off topic as the thread is about the Performance Motor mounted on the Gen2 Haibikes.

The simple answer is No. The haibike has a hinge built into the frame. This means the skid plate cannot be mounted onto other eBikes.

It's really neat actually, once the two bolts have been removed at the front it flaps down for easy access to the motor.

Regards
Martin
I think that when you drill 4 holes and tap thread (is this the right English?) you can mount the skid plate under a non-Haibike since the motor is always the same size.

To Col: have you read your conversations? I wrote you about your question concerning ElektroRad magazin

Col, why don't you visit Martins shop and try one for yourself. You can even take your tape measure with you.
I'm office based mainly, so don't get as much chance to actually visit dealers as I'd like, as our reps do the shop visits.

but to be honest I'd forgotten what the classic Bosch looked like, its been over 12 months since we've had one in our office. I was thinking it was a lot more like the new style ones.

Now I've had a look I can see how much extra clearance they do offer by inverting the old style. I still think most of the points Haibike claim about inverting it are marketing waffle, as having ridden offroad MTB for 20+ years I don't think the classic system I played with last year was really any lower than a 44t chainring, and we've never had a problem with mud build up.

But with the new Bosch system the discussion is now a moot point really.

So I'll leave the thread hijack there :)

Col.

Do you think so?

Whilst I could have ridden around, it was fun to ride through mile upon mile of flooded tracks.

Did you get off to take the pic or fall off?

Hi SRS,

Glad your enjoying the bike! I would love to make an article on our blog an include these photos?

Regards
Martin

SRS that's brilliant. :)

I might have to rethink our ride out!!! :D

This is no way meant to come across as being negative... But adding those photos to your blog could open up a can of 'warranty worms*' if the unfortunate happens and water gets into a customers motor after following the example set by SRS.

Just be very careful about what you decide to write. :)

* new expression. :)

Hi Eddie,

Not a problem, it is a mountain bike at the end of the day and should handle these conditions.

Afterall the motor us not left completely submerged and with new customers worried about water+electric this should give a little more piece of mind.

I hear the question all the time from new customers - 'Can I hose it off?'

My reply is always, yes of course it's a bike, please do keep it clean ;)

Regards
Martin

Martin, you must be able to answer my question: is the haibike motor protection for sale as a spare part?

I got off to take the picture.

A brilliant 1st day off road for my new bike. As you can sees, I was going to ride what ever the conditions. The bike coped extremely well and powered
through miles of these water filled ruts.

Hi Eddie, I forgot to mention, I'll ride in any weather and any conditions.
So do I. :)

If you fancy some mud and water, I reckon that I know just the place. It is somewhere that we used to ride as teenagers, but the land was sold a number of years ago, and we then stopped riding it. Over the years I've got to know the current owner, and this thread has prompted my memory of the place. It had never even occurred to me to think about riding there again. :)

The hub drive is a little restrictive, and I don't fancy having to have a third motor, but if one of my mates is up for it, I might even be able to borrow a mid drive bike, so that we could test the 'real' swimming capabilities of both bikes. But if I can't, I'll happily take some photos or film of you swimming through it. :)
I'll check the access and depth over the next week or so, but I would imagine that if your bike was upright instead of laying over, that the water would be up to roughly the same point of the chainwheel as it is in the photo. It's a concrete bottomed culvert so no chance of getting bogged down, and it's approx half a mile long. The stream before and after it are also great fun to ride, but this can get a bit rocky in places, and I tend to leave riding that until the summer months. It should prove a good test, especially if it's raining, and as Martin has stated, "Not a problem, it is a mountain bike at the end of the day and should handle these conditions"... :)
Thinking about this even further, the land concerned is very wooded and is both over and besides the top of a railway tunnel. It also has some of the steepest imaginable banks, so perhaps we could take a look at those as well. I'm not sure that my balls are big enough to tackle them, but I'd be up for taking a look.

Yes, I have been following your little outings with interest.

More than happy to meet up for some mud and water let me know where you have in mind and we'll see of we can sort out a convenient day.

Cheers Ian (SRS)

Excellent. :)

I realize that it's derailing the thread even further, but as well as the above, I'll take a look at the woodlands around the farm where my workshop is.
It wouldn't be as extreme, but they do hold alot of 4x4 and bike trials events there. It's just never previously even occurred to me to think about riding the bike there. Odd.

As said before, I'd also be happy to come down to where you are and we could venture up on the South Downs. Perhaps we could do that first off. :)
It would also be a good test of the new kit on my bike before the next Wiggle event.

The downs round here has an excellent mix of terrain with the added bonus that I know a lot of the trails.

If you fancy coming down this way, let me know when you are free and we'll arrange to meet. Am about a lot of weekends and sometimes take the odd day off in the week to go riding.

Do however take a look around your area as more than happy to come up you way and explore.
