March 24, 201412 yr Aren't the Haibike motors inverted by 280 degrees and placed above the frame tube. This being the case it won't have one. I can't be 100% sure whether it's a genuine part or not, but I think that Cube might sell them as an accessory for the Cube Stereo Hybrid 140 SL 27.5. (now there is a rank hideous bike if ever thee was one) I couldn't find it using Google, but I know that I have read an advert for it in one of my MTB mags. Failing that, just make one. March 24, 201412 yr Author The new Bosch motors are not inverted, the new design makes it unnecessary. Right; it is for the 2014 Performance motor and they are (and can not be) inverted.

March 25, 201412 yr surely putting the down tube under the motor just means you have loads less clearance? whats the clearnce on this bike? and more importantly whats the actual point of mounting it above the downtube? Col

March 25, 201412 yr Hi Col, The Gen1 Haibike has the motor mounted above the down tube, this gives maximum clearance and keeps the motor protected. But that is off topic as the thread is about the Performance Motor mounted on the Gen2 Haibikes. The simple answer is No. The haibike has a hinge built into the frame. This means the skid plate cannot be mounted onto other eBikes. It's really neat actually, once the two bolts have been removed at the front it flaps down for easy access to the motor. Regards Martin
March 25, 201412 yr Sufficient To achieve sufficient clearance. hmmmm, not overly helpful. I was hoping you might be able to help explain the point of mounting it like that, because from an outsiders point of view, it looks like you're going to end up with loads less clearance, or a crazy high BB axle which will mean crap handling and a worse centre of gravity than a standard system. It also seems to be attempting to solve a problem that doesn't exist. Hence why I'm asking what the point is? Col

March 25, 201412 yr Nope, on the Gen1 it is perfect. Gives good central mounting of the BB axle and gives approx 3inches more clearancecompared to other non inverted Classic line motors. Also brings the motor out of the firing line from all the crud that flies up off the front wheel. Martin, can you measure the bb axle to ground distance on a 29er hardtail with one of these systems, so we can compare. Because I can't see how you can put a tube under the motor, and not either decrease clearance, or raise the bb. I don't see how you can get 3" more clearance and not actually riase the height of the bb axle. I'll have to have a better look at the geometry charts, because I'd not really considered this until reading these posts tonight. Cheers Col
March 25, 201412 yr Col, The Classic motor is egg shaped. The bolts sit within the top of the Haibike frame. Whereas on yours the motor sits underneath. But is raised into the underside of the frame. The BB axle stays in the same place but the Bosch motor gives loads more clearance inverted up into the frame. March 26, 201412 yr You can also visit an AVE stockist and see the 2012/2013 XH-5/XH-7 models, as they have been using an upturned motor for some time. The newer bikes are using the Acive and Performance though, so normal positioning. For anyone concerned about AVE's future, as I was, they are apparently safe now that they have been bought out by Pantherwerke International which is the same guy that owned Pantherwerke AG-apparently both of these companies have existed side by side for a while anyway.

Regards Martin I think that when you drill 4 holes and tap thread (is this the right English?) you can mount the skid plate under a non-Haibike since the motor is always the same size.

I'm office based mainly, so don't get as much chance to actually visit dealers as I'd like, as our reps do the shop visits. but to be honest I'd forgotten what the classic Bosch looked like, its been over 12 months since we've had one in our office. I was thinking it was a lot more like the new style ones. Now I've had a look I can see how much extra clearance they do offer by inverting the old style. I still think most of the points Haibike claim about inverting it are marketing waffle, as having ridden offroad MTB for 20+ years I don't think the classic system I played with last year was really any lower than a 44t chainring, and we've never had a problem with mud build up. But with the new Bosch system the discussion is now a moot point really. So I'll leave the thread hijack there Col.
