So just to clarify your position then flecc.....you think personal insults on the forum are acceptable ?

Very interesting response......

I do agree though that the person making the insults is only showing himself up.
I myself dont think personal insults and rudeness are acceptable whether on or off line.

I do however enjoy the cut and thrust of online banter and argueing as long it doesnt descend into the personal and I sometimes wonder where the moderators of this site are.

Just my opinions and boy am I glad that I have a good sense of humour :D

Sadly I have seen this on so many other internet forums. I once followed a football thread where two posters couldn't be satisfied with insulting each other and made arrangements to meet up to settle their differences by fighting - and what were they arguing about? Whether a certain player's best position was full back or midfield.

Similarly here - trivial matters are ending up in nasty insults and bad feeling all round. It must really discourage new or potential members from joining what is usually a fantastic site- particularly if they think they will suffer abuse just because of the brand of bike they have purchased!

May I recommend judicious use of the "ignore" facility if a particular poster irritates you. I use it.

So far I only have one poster on "ignore"

I'd rather they weren't made Lynda, but I don't lose any sleep over them. We live in an increasingly touchy society where it seems at times that everyone wants everything perfect, desiring more laws and controls, harsher punishments, greater rigidity. Trouble is that satisfying these desires is impossible, since each individuals desire is different from all others. I've been in rigidly administered forums and what miserable places they are, irritating in an entirely different way.

I think that flecc may be implying that he is reluctant to enter into a battle of wits when he believes that an opponent is unarmed. :p

You are lucky Willin I have two, problem is I admit to being nosy and opening up one of them lolol

I totally agree with your point about it possibly putting off potential new members, it can appear to be a bit of a 'bear pit' at times.

However, fortunately for me, having spent seven years being a successful Bear artist a few years ago.....bears have never frightened me :D

I dont lose any sleep over them either flecc, Im personally not touchy (not in that way anyway ) but I do believe in being polite and not descending into personal insults, thats the only way of behaving as far as I am concerned.
And I certainly wouldnt want any more control and laws in this world, but if we all showed more respect for our fellow human beings, they wouldnt be needed would they.

There is never an acceptable reason for rudeness no matter where it is.

I generally agree Lynda, but with regard to administration there is no end to control.

We used to empty chamber pots out of windows until some objected and it was stopped. Having a pee in the streets was still a common practice but that was the next target for complaint. Then some objected to the spitting in the streets that was common at the time so that was outlawed. So was everyone happy then? No chance, litter was the next target for complaint, followed by fag ends and chewing gum. Who knows what will be next.

The point I'm making is that there will always be someone's posting that some others object to. I've had various posts of mine complained about so I know at first hand that there is no limit to this process. Eddie at this moment might be chief villain, but even if he quit I'm sure the post will soon be filled to someone else's dissatisfaction, if not yours.

Hi Dave, it was all a part of Grace's exploration of the Chinese market. They sent a bike out to Shanghai to be on an exhibition stand. An urban transport magazine became involved and took some images...

Have a look at Downtown | Let's save the world aesthetically

David,thanks-I started the post as a bit of fun banter and knew at some point that you would at some point respond in the manner appropriate. I suspect that Grace is not your primary product, more a bonus that came along with the move.
And then all hell broke loose.
Please everybody lets not get so emotional about these bikes. Eddie has called my bikes ......awful,chinese rubbish, lacking R&R. But I ignore it,my bikes have their customers who are very pleased with them, no doubt others are equally pleased with their purchases. But when harmless banter becomes rude then that is too far.

Yes Dave........ see what you did!!! :D

You are of course correct the Grace bikes seemed to be an obvious addition to our range, we were simply being opportunist nothing clever. I am pleased though that the opportunity came along, they are well built and designed, unusual bikes from a good manufacturer.

All the best

David :)

But did YOU stoop to personally insulting them when replying ?? I wouldnt have thought so......

No Flecc, the point I am making, as you well know, has nothing to do with general disagreement with someones post, Im sure we are all (well obviously not all it seems ) adult enough to accept other peoples opinions whether they are different to ours or not.....this is about stooping to personal insults.

End of..... I think I have made my thoughts clear, and also believe it or not, have more interesting things to do tonight. ;) ( yes I know, 'thank god'..... I can hear you ! lol )

Plus I accept that this is all distracting from a humourous tongue in cheek post topic which Dave is probably wishing he had never started lol

Lynda :)

PS.....ok gaRRy I will shut up now :p

PPS.....a bear artist is someone who makes mohair teddy bears for collectors, which I did for years supplying shops/private collectors all over the world.....and that also explains why I have a (now traumatised ;) ) collection of Gollywogs too

Oh dear! I have only seen this thread this evening and although I don't see most of the contributions thanks to my ever-growing ignore list, I get the gist from the posts by members for whom I have a little respect.

I note from Willin' that he has one member "on ignore" and out of curiosity, I just had a look at my "ignore" list. It has stretched to 13 including one obnoxious trader so that's probably why I'm a lot more relaxed about this forum now than I was some time ago.

Curiously, I suspect most of the people Eddie seems to have upset are on my list so I take a kind of perverse pleasure from that. Eddie rides interesting, legal(ish) bikes which may be a little left-field which I like as I tend to stick to conventional, old-fashioned machinery. Vive la difference in that regard. At least Eddie isn't a geek cobbling together overtly illegal machines and trying to pass them off as ebikes then bragging about how clever he is to the others of his ilk in this forum.

Like many here, I also look in that other ebike forum and I just wish those whose sole pleasure seems to involve rule-breaking and/or law-breaking would constrain their bragging to that organ, freeing these pages for all the legal ebikes now widely available.

I sincerely hope that I'm already on lots of members' "ignore" list and if this post increases that number, I really don't care.

Keep giving us the information about good-quality ebikes please Ed. Nothing under a grand though as they all look the same to me. ;)

Indalo I'm disappointed with you. Your post stated off really well with an articulate explanation of your views and defence of your friend, which I repect you for, even though I don't share your opinions, but why did you have to spoil it with the last sentence, which just shows rational people that you vision of reality must be completely distorted if you can't see the difference betwen a a Cyclamatic folder and a Woosh Sirocco II, both of which cost less than a grand and are completely different.

Personal insults is not the way too add to this site. I think it is so very wrong that this has happened yet again. d8veh has done so much good on this site for so many people, even to the extent of posting parts to people free of charge to help them out.

Yes he has got a lot of E-Bikes, which he always writes up on, thus again helping others on here.

I live close by to D8veh and I can assure you all he is the most caring person I know. He gave me an Electric Bike when I was down in the dumps whilst out of work, lovely surprise.

The time he spends writing on the forums has helped so many people out, and he is not the type of person to show off. He does so much good for people, more than most people I have come across in my life time.

None of us are perfect and we all say things from time to time which upsets us, but I am most annoyed to the point that I am sat here now writing this because of personal insults which has gone way too far.

As you all know I do not tend to write on here. More of a reader than a writer, but perhaps now more people will speak out when personal insults are said.

Enough said now. As far as I am concerned the matter is now closed.

Steve.

That was a lovely post Steve, and very well said.

It reminds us all that the vast majority on this site are really nice, helpful, kind hearted people and that is why we need to speak out when others overstep the line, and refuse to let their attitudes spoil what is a really good site normally, with such a wealth of information so freely given by so many decent folk.

Thankyou for posting such a breath of fresh air.....I think we were all in need of it :D

Hi Indy,

How refreshing to read a post from someone that is articulate, can spell, doesn't mince words and doesn't sit on the fence;)
