700km, 40C, Northern India

Yes, we did it in 6 days. The high temperatures that there are now in north India, pushes us to start pedaling at around 5am every morning. Despite we got some advice about the dangers of Bihar province, we got no problems at all and we found very nice and friendly people.

We do manage to test our renewed trailer named "Dilip".

Guim and Thuy Ahn have had to skip the middle east and fly to Athens because of the uncertain situation from Pakistan to Turkey. They will be keeping us in touch with their adventures in Europe.

It's great to see the bikes holding up so well and Thuy Ahn achieving 100km on a single charge when loaded up with as many bags as the bike will take!

All the best

Hi David. How are you. I have been out of action since late last year. After waiting for my 906 to arrive in Australia I only got to ride it for about 20 kilometers before getting messed up in a kitesurfing accident that put me into hospital for many months. Physio has finally got me back on my feet and I am about to start riding again. ( i hope )My bike is still in brand new condition and hopefully battery is OK. My brother has kept an eye on it but I won't know for sure until I see it. I need to get in touch with the blokes from Gloworm and get them to check things over for me.
I've just started reading the forum again ( had to concentrate on other stuff for a while as you would appreciate. It is great to see that Guim has been going well and I was so pleased to read about him finding his soul mate. He is such a nice bloke and deserves a great life. I'm pleased that Wisper is going so well for you mate. I will get soughted out with my bike and will be in touch . I have forgotten many things about the bike and will need to rebuild my knowledge.
Cheers for now David and kindest regards .. Col. ( alias GalahOnTheBay )

Hi Col, it was good to talk to you during the week, sorry I couldn't give you much time. I am delighted that you are recovering from your terrible accident, that sounded scary!

I am sure the guys at Glo Worm can help but if you need to talk please call.

Best regards

David

Are they only charging the batteries from the solar panel? If so that's an amazing achievement. What wattage is the panel.
Is there a link to a technical report of their journey? - ranges per battery, Ahr used, battery capacity loss etc?
maybe this is your opportunity to plug a Wisper tandem??

A Wisper Tandem..... why not? I will give it a thought.

I dont know much about the solar panel but I will send Guim your questions.

They use the solar panel to charge an extra battery during the day for the occasions they need more than two full batteries such as a day of hill climbing and when there is no alternative power source. Whenever they have power they charge all the batteries.

All the best

Hi David,

Regarding the question at pedelecs, they can get some info in our website link EBWT - English » Sustainable mean of transport

Electric Bicycle World Tour is using solar panels to assist recharge extra batteries.

http://www.electricbicycleworldtour.com/en/blog/wp-content/uploads/solar-panel-in-auckland2.jpg

The panels are 12Volt 20 Watt. They have been wired in series to produce 36 Volts at 60 watts.

It is a Morningstar TS45 controller which is designed to be used at 12, 24 or 48 Volt.

However the controller is capable of being programmed via RS232. So I reprogrammed the 12 Volt settings to run at 42 Volt which is the voltage required to charge a 36V Lithium Ion Polymer battery.

No we do not charge the batteries only from solar. We just use it to be able to cover longer distances. We could travel 100% solar if we have some investment to develop a better equipment, but as you know is not the case.

I should be able to get info from the converter, but so far we had not time to do it. Is not easy we need to find someone with engineering skills like Morgan in NZ. Regarding details from battery that will need also other device to get the info I guess.

By the way I tested the Daahub! brilliant, is amazing! well done

best regards
