Swiss e-bike share scheme trials different speed restrictions for different users

"Adrian Houriet, head of parking at Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), said the pilot project - based in Basel, Switzerland, in cooperation with the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) - detects whether someone is registered with or without a driving licence and will then adjust the bike's maximum speed from 45km/h to 25km/h via remote access."

I'm a bit surprised that this story hasn't gone further. I'm told by quite a few bike shops that this is a massive risk for the retail sector and it is of course not of the e-bike sectors making, rather more generally speaking of the conversion kit and gig economy sector's making.

I'm hearing of closures already as insurance renewals are being declined or rocketing: Insurers decline bike shops

The rider of one of the bikes - a man in his 20s - was forced to have one of his legs had to be amputated below the knee. He remains in hospital."
