Has the mist not charm? Does the rain not freshen the fields green? Does the snow not lie starkly magnificent on British hills? Where’s your sense of poetry chaps?
Down it comes, the covering snow

While chilly doth the north wind blow

desiring me not anywhere to go

So I don't! :p

I moved here 5 years ago from QLD the water is to cold for me I like 24 C
18C isn't very warm tbh - don't feel so bad now ! 24-26C is ideal temp .. you can still get slightly chilly currents in deeper water or diving down a bit even then... well, you do in the Mediterranean anyway where I go more often than further afield these days.

Still, it's too cold for me to go swimming here at all right now - water's pretty much at its coldest of the whole year right now, more so than in deep Winter (December/January) and you come out into light snow and a fierce biting wind that makes getting out of your wetsuit to get home a pretty grim experience. -2 degrees air temp tomorrow morning.. Roll on April when it'll start to warm up a bit again .

Just an update the Xtrem has done about 2000 km's now still going well. I originally bought the bike from Reef bikes Sydney Australia I got it at reduced price as it was advertised as marks on lcd controller it also had rub marks on forks from poor packaging.I accepted that but what I was not told was the battery was second hand. It was clear the battery had impact damage from not being locked in place on another bike as this one was new with marks. I sent detailed photo's to Reef Bikes who were in complete denial I also sent photo's to JET BLACK the Aussie distributer for BH, they were in agreement with me about the nature of the damage to the battery. I bought this bike online as I live in remote area I lodged a dispute with PayPal who said I could return the bike at my expense and get reimbursed but I had to send the whole bike so I would of been out of pocket yet again. Reef would not do anything so I had to buy another battery from dealers in Melbourne. I can post the pics of the battery if any one is interested. I have been buying online for many years due to remote location and have never been treated with the lies and contempt that I have from Reef Bikes. I hope you don't have any dodgy dealers in UK like these guys.

Bummer! - That's not a cheap battery.

Was it damaged such as to make it unuseable? If so, I'd have thought Jet Black might have helped you out, for their reputation's sake.

Dodgy dealer, or one with a dodgy employee maybe, makes for bad news all round.

reading this thread, i've realised what my xtrem is missing - a sunny beach...must have forgotten to order that on the extras :)

joking aside, i feel your pain - the ebike industry seems to be outside of the normal pendulum curve (few terrible, most ok, few great) for cycle shops, and at the inverse (some terrible, few ok, some great) but as always its only when problems arise you find out where yours sits. On the plus side, its a fantastic bike!

No it was no unusable but it had chunks missing from the casing and gravel rash showing that it had taken a spin down the road Jet Black put pressure on Reef Bikes but they ignored it. My concern is the life of the battery as I know they don't like sudden impacts apart from selling me a second hand battery. Reef bikes threatened me with legal action over defamation I said bring it on as the pictures tell the story. after that they ignored me but I have not forgotten nor will I and will hang on to the pictures for any future reference I may need. Totally disgusted with REEF BIKES and the way they lied and ignored a genuine complaint.

Well the saga of the Extrem from "REEF" bikes is that I had electrical problems, BH bikes Australia looked after me though they sent me new torque converter, new display and display housing. This did not resolve the problem. BH Australia picked the bike up at their expense and tested it they decided that it was not worth completely rewiring the bike and have replaced it with a Neo 29er which will arrive this afternoon. these bikes sell here for about $3000.00 I was surprised to see the price of them in the UK over $5000.00 dollars .It seems rather excessive since Spain is probably closer to the UK than I am to Sydney http://sydney-electric-bikes.myshopify.com/products/bh-emotion-neo-29er here is link to Aussie price

Nice to hear that you can finally lay the matter to rest. :)

And good luck with the new bike. :)

Other than frame, battery, electrics, wheels, brake calipers, brake levers, rear brake disc, nothing else remains of my factory supplied Xtrem. It has now all gone into the bin.

Over the next coming week, the whole drive train shall be scrapped, along with the front brake disc in favour of 180mm disc. Other than replacing the calipers and levers that I have no problem with, there really isn't much else that I can now do to the bike. It's also now or rather will be, just over 2kg lighter than the OE spec bike. I'm also certainly going to be glad to see the back of the OE Shimano Alivio. It has proved to be just too unreliable for my use.

The one other thing that I wouldn't mind having is the 12ah battery, but I'm certainly not going to be paying out for that, when there is nothing wrong with my battery.

I'm also contemplating stripping down and painting the whole bike, but if I do decide to do that, it will have to wait until I have a second e-MTB, as I can't handle being without one. :)

My relationship with this bike has certainly been testing, but I still love every second of riding it. :)

Bike did not arrive yesterday, hopeless delivery service I imagine it will be another week now if it has not gone astray. BH despatched the bike on the 12th now the 22nd I can get things from China in 5 days the freight direct people said it would arrive on the 18th I questioned that and then was told after they contacted the on forwarder who said the 21st . All freight company's here seem bloody hopeless tracking info can not tell you where it is nor will they give you the on forwarder's number to ring... my property and I am not allowed to get any info or contact them, I find this bloody ludicrous in this day and age of information technology.

This is what happens! I have a bike which now only has the large and small chain ring, calipers and bottom bracket bearing as original, frame was replaced f.o.c. by Raleigh about 15 years back.
Conversely I've just had to replace the horrible bottom bracket bearing on my almost new Trek, (shame on you Trek) after a few hundred miles.
Glad you're enjoying the bike and getting it just as you want it:)

The deed is done. :)

Given that the BH won't be seeing much road use ever agin, and that most of it's work will be climbing, I've opted for the following.

- Shimano Deore Chainset 2 x 10 (38/24t) + Shimano Hollowtech 2 bottom bracket
- Shimano HG62 Cassette (11-36t)
- Shimano Deore 2 x 10 front and rear derailleurs
- SRAM 10 speed chain
- Shimano Deore 2 x 10 gear shifters

Looks good.

The Hollowtech bottom bracket is the cat's potatoes.

Care needed with frame facing when fitting.

Even a bit of paint on the face can cause the bearings to run out of true and wear very quickly.

Some bike shops have frame facing machines.

I would suggest it may be worth paying a few quid to have the frame faced professionally.

Thanks Rob,

I'm actually letting a very highly regarded, and thankfully local specialist off road bike shop carry out the work for me. The labour cost wasn't much over £30.00 including also checking the rest of the bike over, checking and adjusting spoke tension, and also checking my that my set up of the front forks is correct. As I don't have the tools to change some of the parts, it made sense for me to let them carry out the work. :)
I've had some very lengthy discussions with them over the last week on the subject of gearing, and they have really listened to my needs. They also mentioned just as you have about the facing work. :)

I'll now almost have the bike that the BH Xtrem should have been in the first place.

I just want it back. :(

You've done more remodelling than most owners, but it's not as if you are butchering it.

Finished bike should still look well - insofar as that's important.

I was going to comment the labour at £30 is too cheap, but I take it the shop is also supplying the components.
