E-bike prices

Am off to the Eurobike show,August end. It will be interesting if the strength of the pound against the euro reveals a number of new e-bikes out of Europe at lower prices.
China seems to have bottomed out in terms of cost prices but the bigger manufacturers are upping the quality of parts which are being included.
Our experience is that £1000 is still the threshold price point which most people want to spend on an e-bike,they will stretch to £1200 to get exactly what they want. But we are starting to see second and third generation purchasers who have refined their ideals and will spend up to £2000,above £2k is a very rare sale.

actually, you don't have to pay more than £700 for a decent e-bike.
That £700 budget is good for a bike with a 13AH battery, 8-Fun SWX02, decent fork, decent hill climbing ability and decent disc brakes.

That sounds great,out of curiosity how did the name karoo (khoi San for a small but pretty desert in southern Africa)get into it?

Pending Trex responding, maybe fashion? There's precedent for such odd locations making e-bike names, Kalkhoff's Agattu is named after an arctic island in the Aleutians group.

Woosh are upgrading their £585 Sirocco, I expect the SWX02 and the 13AH Battery will be on it.
It is easy to up the current on the new Lishui HL1260 controller to 18A, that will give a similar pull to the BPM.

the SWX02 has been used by other suppliers too, including Oxygen. Samsung cells have come down in price, a 13AH now costs about the same as the 10AH last year. I am sure any maintream e-bike supplier can make a decent bike with SWX02 and 13AH battery for about $550. Translated to GBP, I reckon £700 is a fair price for direct sellers, £900 at the shops.

It's not a bad name (woosh should really get some commission from the SA tourist board for making the world aware of it!), the anorak in me likes it when names are code for specification, such as USB BC for USB-IF Charging Specification version 1.2 as opposed to USB 3.1 etc, but i can understand that that does not have the marketing appeal of say pedego interceptor. when I read about the wai won ching journey half of me felt it sounded great, in another part around 2 - 300 km a day sounds torture.

Sometimes the upmarket or exotic location suffers from association with a less upmarket brand. Not likely to be the case with an obscure - to the general public - e bike. But much more so with Vauxhall Cresta, or Ford Capri, or Cortina. Going to the latter on holiday must have lost its allure for the more snobbish when the place was associated with a fairly downmarket Ford and an Ian Dury song about an Essex girl called Nina.

Then there’s the VW Toerag of course.... Yes, I know. In the years since they came up with the name the people it was named after have been constantly revolting.
