Hi Tom- got back from abroad this evening and Tim was on my doorstep 30 minutes later with my Kalkhoff- looks great so hoping weather holds up for a maiden voyage tomorrow. Glad yours is good - it's been a long wait.

Hi musicbooks! Forgot to thank you for putting the photo up earlier. Your frame size and style is the same as mine which is waiting for me to collect at 50c. However, I am unable to collect until next Sat.(12th). So I console myself by regularly clicking on the photo of your bike and having a look before scanning the posts on the forum. We have had a couple of pleasant days weatherwise, so I expect you have a few more miles on the Agattu by now, am I correct?

Hi Tom- bit restricted, I'm afraid. By my 10year old daughter insisting on joining me on Saturday and by snow today. But I managed a short 3 miles each day and it's pretty impressive.

Minor gripes are 2 cut cable sleeves on front brake and gear cables and nowhere to mount a secondary rear light. Oh and Tim forgot my free panniers!

I want to test a bit more (but won't commute on it until weather improves) especially up hills, but I'm pretty sure it is undergeared- I had no use for gears below 4th.

General question for others- on the dull sprocket change question, is there a set number of links to remove on the chain for a new 19, 18 or 17 tooth sprocket?

One link for every two teeth smaller Simon. One either side of that to cope with odd numbers is not a problem, the frame dropouts and the Panasonic's idler sprocket take care of variations.

There is a vertical and horizontal drop out to fix the frame to the wheel.
The horizontal will allow wheel adjustments with the chain as moves from side to side or backwards and forwards, however the vertical being upright will not as it is less forgiving and it is fixed with very little or no play regarding chain adjustment as moves up and down and would not help with adjusting the chain length due to the wheel being fixed.
The Agattu must have the horizontal one

It's the slot the wheel bolts into Simon. One tooth will shift the wheel spindle by a quarter inch, so if you have an odd tooth to adjust for, do it this way:

If the wheel is near the back of the slot with not much more movement possible, take out the extra link from the chain. If the wheel is well forward and near the dropping out point, don't take out the extra link, just remove one link for each pair of teeth, ignoring any odd tooth.

Hi Just some feedback on gearing.

I had planned to mod mine, but actually i dont think i will. I live in area with a lot of steep hills\slopes and i plan to move a lot of weight and\or avoid sweating up them, so i think i'll keep my gears as is for the minute.

I'll see how i feel after a hot summer (fingers crossed).

I'm a skinny spinner, so i dont like heavy gearing generally.

You haven't explained your grearing problems that I can see?
Please elaborate and one of the Guru's will get back to you, namely Flecc hopefully?

Hi mandy,

It wasnt a problem, just an observation. SimonBarnett is changing his rear sprocket like many people are doing or planning to i think, beacuse he feels the gearing is too light.

I was observing that i found the gearing a little light when theres just me, but as i add weight it becomes barely adequate. I think this is becuase my cycling style is fast and light, rather than strong and slow.

Cheers for the offer of help though.
