Come on guys, I may be completely wrong but at £500 - £600 seems like a bargain to me... Would it be alright for me to buy for my wife to use occasionally or am I being "wrong headed"

It's good value for the bike, but you'll be paying much more when you want a new BionX battery or any other non-standard spares for it, since they are very expensive.
Best used for a year or two and then cleaned and sold, when you'd get half or more of your £500 or so back.

I understand what flecc is saying, I was looking at it as an investment for spares for mine, the parts are very expensive as it is an elite designer object of art, so its a tough call having space taken up storing it for bits in my case.
However if it is working fine then it would be more than good enough for you never mind a housewife, it is a serious piece of machinery and the chap that is selling it, although he hasn't cleaned its pedals seems genuine enough, I am hoping to see him and the bike tomorrow to see what its like

I've just had an emailed offer from someone who has obviously seen this thread. There will be a £40.00 delivery charge on the bike and it does not come with any guarantees.
The offer has been made at £500.00 I will sell it unless I get a better offer today. I don't have time to get into a drawn out auction so I will close this off at 17.00 today. Only £100 increments will be considered, so I will not accept offers under £600. Sorry to be blunt but we are getting ready for the NEC bike show and I don't have much time. The bike has really come to my attention now, and I want to sell, it so if it doesn't go here, I will do it up and pop it onto Ebay.

To the OP, regarding whether the bike was stolen. I take great exception to the suggestion that I would be selling stolen goods on Pedelecs or indeed that I am a thief.
FYI, I was the UK Grace dealer for a couple of years so used to visit MIFA near Liepzig in Germany where this bike was made. It was a gift of a sample from the Grace sales manager, as were the upgrades. They wanted my considered opinion on the bike. Hence the fact it was hardly ever used. As I have said earlier, it looks good but is a very average bike in terms of performance.

I think you've been very gracious by taking just great exception....I felt the suggestion was bordering on libellous and was disgusted to read it. I take most of his comments with a pinch of salt but that one went too far and should be either retracted or he should be banned from the forum.

As a bike dealer you should encourage and support potential buyers to do due diligence, Although after fleccs kind comment about you I don't know you from Adam, I would have come to a judgement when I met you as no doubt you would have on e as a potential purchaser.
You are selling the bike at a very good price and I was interested in it for spares for my own, in fact the price you are selling it is lower than one would expect although you have explained the circumstances, still as I said I don't know you, and if your tizzy this morning is going to prevent people doing due diligence in the future then that is a bad thing.
Only recently 'smart water' was discussed on here, if nobody had read it my post may have got them researching what it is, people put it on their property for a reason so why would anyone not check it out. I am sure at the NEC ther will be someone selling cycle security and people buying it, it is there for a reason.
So in closing, I am taking exception to your comments and will not be coming to look at the bike, I am not interested in buying from someone I don't know and have never met who goes on the defensive when due diligence is mentioned, never mind the bike being particularly cheap compared to any other similar ones for sale
As a bike dealer perhaps you could advise if people buying expensive bikes from people they don't know off the Internet cheaply should or should not check things out? You say you were 'given' the bike so most likely no purchase receipt for me to check out, I think an apology is owed to ME for being a careful 'diligent' potential buyer!
I had no idea who David was, it was only through my due diligence part of which was posting the question about serial numbers that got the kind reply from flecc that aided my investigations.
Main reasons to be careful when buying a bike to ensure it is not stolen:
1. You do not know the seller
2. The bike is being offered very cheaply
3. The seller says they were given the bike
4. There is no documentation of initial purchase
5. When you question any of the above the seller goes on the defensive
So there you have it, all of the above have ticked my 'alert' box, my job was then to work through it and ENSURE that everything was as it should be, my post on here answered by flecc was one positive answer, I would then on meeting the person have a duty to ensure that I was happy about the reasons for the others, I was already half convinced because of what David had said in earlier posts, but that was not going to stop me asking more questions and to be TOTALLY happy that everything was right.
What is a shame is that I actually went to a cash machine last night and withdrew the money and was due to visit him in person this morning, but to have ANYONE on this forum telling people they should not ensure that ANYTHING they buy is right and proper is astounding. I would have thought the correct answer would be being supportive and ensuring the buyer was happy. I would also expect the seller to go out of their way in being supportive and ensuring the buyer was 100% happy.
A bit late when the police knock at your door, can you imagine, oh I was on a forum, a guy said he had been given a very expensive bike a year or so ago, no purchase receipt, says it has only done 20 miles or thereabouts in that time, he has changed a lot of the electrics on it, says he was sent the parts to fit by a manufacturer, I don't think he used it, it has a puncture, he only wanted £500 for it and the cheapest I could see on ebay in Germany or the UK was around £750 upwards to £1,500, I wanted to check out the serial numbers but other people said do you not know who he is, so I just bought it as I thought it was a bargain.
As I said I was getting the answers slowly to the above and the visit this morning would have been the final part of my diligence when I met the seller in person, just a shame really as I may also have been inspired with other bikes I may have seen on my visit and who knows what the future my have held. I am sure from what has been said that David is totally genuine, but that wasn't stopping me carrying out my own due diligence, at the end of the day I would have to answer to anyone questioning my purchase should anything not be right!
So that is my take on things, just wanted to be CRYSTAL CLEAR!!!

I was giving the OP the benefit of the doubt regarding the general view he seems to be a bit of a "Walter Mitty" maybe I was mistaken.

Of course if you are worried about any purchase being legit you should be diligent. If you had wanted to check me out then maybe you should have done it discreetly?

I have explained clearly my position in the above post, shown above is evidence of my due diligence which you will have read! Maybe if more people were vigilant then theft of bikes would drop, they are only stolen to feed the handlers of stolen goods, my due diligence should be an example to others showing ALL purchase from WHOEVER should be looked at carefully!
