I've got two identical cloned core2quad 9400 machines, which still do useful work. If the CPU isn't cooked and if you wanted another spare PC, a second hand motherboard would cost you between £5 and £10 on ebay - check drivers are available. Avoid Intel boards, because they removed all drivers from their websites for older OSs about three years ago.

It's mad what people throw away - I found a rusty old wheelbarrow for my garden the other day. It's still sound for garden work, but too big for either of my trailers for 12 mile transport, and it's too rusty to take apart, so I'll have to make something to keep it securely on the Carry Freedom Small Y... or use a car... which defeats the reason for getting a bike trailer...

Earth's Oxygen Came From an Unexpectedly Deep And Hot Source, Study Suggests

As far as we know, the Earth is the only place in the solar system – past or present – with plate tectonics and active subduction. This suggests that this study could partly explain the lack of oxygen and, ultimately, life on the other rocky planets in the future as well.

Hot air rises, but can't easily if it's a horizontal card - just use a desktop case with good airflow? And the board material itself is heat insulating. Desktop cases are not terribly fashionable...

the vapor chamber stalls so no way to fix that bar new heat sink or custom water block.

you just dont get this crap with server grade stuff or they would be finished it is like they just dont give a crap about consumer stuff anymore yet still want max profit and lower quality.

The only consumer boards I buy are Asus or Gigabyte, in that order - Asus BIOSs are a bit fiddly, but the boards themselves last many years. Gigabyte BIOSs are batshit, but the hardware is reliable.

only 2 i rate is super micro and tyan
Supermicro make some amazing boards, and I have used them in the past - just can't justify the cost, as they are about as reliable (in my experience) as Asus's. I never overclock anything at all - I need reliability and not all that much speed... Glad I'm not a gamer! Sounds exhausting.

problem is if i went diy id have to make it work in the case i want with a custom heat sink and cooling so just will end in a expensive nightmare or so loud its like falling from space,

A mate simply cut a hole in the case for the CPU heatsink to poke out of lol.

But would that expose the PCB?
People are still trying to push the hardware instead of AI or architecture. My sony tv does picture enhancement so well that I rarely if ever select channel 101 instead of 1.
