In my experience slime stuff in tubes was useless as the tube is too flexible and doesn't seal properly, might work for a tiny pin prick. Problem is if a puncture one has to carefully inspect the tyre to ensure the culprit isn't still in the tyre.

A TL tyre on it's own is a different case and will easily seal in most cases.

Slime inner tubes were utterly useless! I don't know if the slime inner tubes were useless because they were 10 year old stock that my 93 year old crook of a local bike shop owner sold me, or because of my poor fitting skills, but I suspect the former because I managed to puncture two while trying to fit them to my wheel. And from what I could see, the punctures I accidentally made, did not seal AT ALL. Plus there's a warning on the slime website which states that slime can damage wheel metal. Slime is useless horrible wheel weakening stuff! (IMHO)

SW used Stans on his bike an it eroded the ali rim.

Well Im praying it is the valve core. I will know after I have fitted a new one. But if it is a dam puncture well Im afraid its gonna mean humping moped up 2 flight of stairs. remove bloody motor cable wheel motor as well so I can take just wheel with tyre to a place to have it fixed as its gonna be too heavy carrying it with motor inside wheel. bloody moped time to dump it ARRRGGGGHHHHHH. Well joke cant dump it now after 4 months of bloody fixing it.

I dont have transport to take wheel with motor to a garage.

But then if it is a puncture I maybe be able to remove tyre myself once motor is removed dam wasnt intending on doing all that.

whats all that about Im lost
It seems some chemicals used in sealants could damage wheel metal - slime stated such on their website. Soundwave used "Stan's NoTubes" and uploaded photos of his shattered rim.

They might have improved since I tried, there are occasional posts of people who actually find them useful.

I‘ve used Slime and MucOff sealant before and they never worked when I had a puncture. However, I’m currently using WeldTite sealant and got a puncture last week 10 miles from where we parked the van. I’m pleased to report that it did its job and the tyre stayed up, albeit a bit softer, put some air and it stayed hard. Checked it the next day and found a huge thorn, pulled it out and a little orange sealant came out, but the tyre didn’t deflate. Been OK since.

I‘ve used Slime and MucOff sealant before and they never worked when I had a puncture. However, I’m currently using WeldTite sealant and got a puncture last week 10 miles from where we parked the van. I’m pleased to report that it did its job and the tyre stayed up, albeit a bit softer, put some air and it stayed hard. Checked it the next day and found a huge thorn, pulled it out and a little orange sealant came out, but the tyre didn’t deflate. Been OK since.

But cant see it being any good for my moped tyres. as a lot wider than a bike tyre. Like Nealh mentioned it maybe a leaky valve core, so until I have tried a new one I wont know. I honestly do hope its the leaky valve core. as its too much having to do back wheel puncture, as would involve a lot of messing around again. I do somehow think it is the valve. as it took 4 hours when i checked tyre after pumping it up, and it was fairly hard but obviously going down still

Ive just pumped up tyre to 39PSI again checked valve core for bubbles and nothing came out. also checked around tyre, wiped some liquid around rim edges too, and still no bubbles. so Im a bit confused now. it has to be the valve leaking very very slow. I will of course fit a new valve core. But Im not going to worry about it. as I went to my brothers house yesterday which is about 4 miles away, was at his for a good 2 hours, came back to mine. but next day at about 12.30pm I saw back wheel was flat. so pumped it up. checked it again 4 hours later it was hard but not 39PSI but was slowly going down. so I am just going to take this electric pump and a power pack for the pump each time i go out. as the distance i use moped for isnt worth worrying about. maybe again when its colder say winter will take bike to flat and check things

Isn't it worth the 1 hour or so to remove the wheel and replace the tube with a brand new one (check inside of tyre for sharp thorns, glass, flint etc) and refit for peace of mind ? That would do my head in having to pump it up every day before I wanted to go out on the bike

Isn't it worth the 1 hour or so to remove the wheel and replace the tube with a brand new one (check inside of tyre for sharp thorns, glass, flint etc) and refit for peace of mind ? That would do my head in having to pump it up every day before I wanted to go out on the bike
Hi yes I can see your point, But this is not a bike, its an electric moped, and there is a lot involved, 1st I have to get moped up 2 flights of stairs to my flat, as on 1st floor. then have to remove the seat, disconnect cable to motor, oh and box at back and wing mirrors, so I can tip moped upside down, remove brake cable chain wheel nuts etc etc. plus then remove motor from wheel. as its too heavy to carry to a bike repair shop or garage. But Yes you are right I dont intend pumping up tyre each time. But fingers crossed Im hoping it is the valve core, although I did put some soapy water around valve and no bubbles appeared. But I have ordered some spare valves so maybe mine is a very slow leak. will fit a new one when they arrive. if not well its back to flat to check it out. I am very mad as I have been fixing moped for 3 months. then because of 1st time back on road axle somehow twisted broke cable. so therefore again another month waiting for parts. back on the road again after 4 months now dam puncture. well hope its not, so can you see my frustation. But yes I dont intend to keep pumping up tyre each time.

Sometimes a valve core is dependant on the atmospheric air pressure & temperature, they don't always leak.
I have had a bike tyre go flat with no puncture and put it down to the valve, pumped back up and all is fine.

Sounds like a slog, and hope for your sake it's the valve core. If it turns out to be a puncture, can't you just lift the moped onto a crate or something so that the rear wheel is off the ground outside your block of flats, release all air from the tyre, and the lever off part of the tyre on one side , pull out part of the tube, pump it up and then feel for the hole (and or put water on the tube), continue this working round the tyre and tube until you find the leak (and then repair )? Would save a lot of effort compared to the alternative of how you've explained it and doesn't involve removing the wheel

Thanks for that Nealh, I feel much better about the situation now. so when new valves arrive, I will try one. lets hope it is that, and not a punture, as I do now think it is a valve, as its very slow going down, and so far since Ive had moped back on the road, I have not gone down any dirt tracks or rough roads. will fit new valve and check tyre next day

If it turns out to be a puncture, can't you just lift the moped onto a crate or something so that the rear wheel is off the ground outside your block of flats, release all air from the tyre, and the lever off part of the tyre on one side , pull out part of the tube, pump it up and then feel for the hole (and or put water on the tube), continue this working round the tyre and tube until you find the leak (and then repair )? Would save a lot of effort compared to the alternative of how you've explained it and doesn't involve removing the wheel

Thats another thing I didnt mention, the back wheel is off the ground when its on the stand, But I have bad arthritis in both knees, so if I kneel down. I couldnt get back up LOL unless there was something to grab hold of to pull myself up. Plus Im not getting any younger. now if I could turn bike upside down then sit on a stool beside moped, then all is much easier for me. thats what I did when I was out the other day, I felt the back brake needed more adjustment. and I was near this bench, so removed 2 wing mirrors, removed back box, which is just 4 bolts. turn moped upside down fixed back brakes as great as I had a bench to sit on, so no bending down lol. as Del boy says in fools and horses ( Lubby Jubbly ) lol :D

They use similar in car tyres, so I can’t see why it wouldn’t work on your small tyre. A
lot of cars come with a sealant kit rather than a spare tyre today. Indeed, I’ve had a number of cars with this and doing 40k miles per year punctures we’re inevitable and I’ve used these with no issues.

You also buy puncture repair sealant in cans with compressed air to use when you get a puncture. For example;

stans no tubes has traces of ammonia in it and if it gets to bear metal like where the valve hole is over time it eats it away and destroyed the rim.

i now use this stuff.

Well the Slime CRK0305-IN Flat Tyre Puncture Repair, wont be no good to me as I dont have a cigarette lighter on moped, for that pump. but sealant might be ok, But was told dont use stuff like slime etc. But handy to know
