@Nealh mentioned something called a Gaspade the other day - a very small mid motor which only weighs 2.46kg... but may be cadence sensing only? Reminded me of Pratchett's "Gaspode The Wonder Dog".
Sadly it seems cadence sensing, otherwise it looks just the business for a light folding bike conversion (to propel a bickerton classic up unlikely hills).

@jonathan.agnew - I went for a slow jog last night, first time in months. I've been gardening and pretending to pedal for exercise... and today my legs are aching like hell. It was only two miles! Amazing how quickly leg muscles change, for the worst in my case. Obviously time to get back to it, regular like and fast! My heart isn't going to strengthen itself.
Here's an unlikely solution I found to losing a stone in a month: book a budget package holiday to sicilly and leave it too late to rent a car (traffics hellish there anyway). End up walking down endless fig and grape lined back roads to unlikely places that are almost always twice as far as locals say in sweltering august sun. It beats the hell out of being in blightey and compensating for an unhealthy lifestyle with running (as ive returned to).

It'd certainly be lightweight - I've never used a TS bike... I don't see why the CS kits are so avoided, because at low assistance levels all the motor does is reduce the torque the rider has to exert to keep the bike moving. It's only at very high assistance levels that one exeperiences not being able to keep up with the motor.

That sounds a brilliant getaway! I've been losing 200g average a week by intermittent fasting 5 days a week (I take weekends off). A bit gradual, but an easy habit to get into, is eating just one big meal a day. Saves time too. Just this last stubborn 9 pounds to lose... after which I'll build up muscle a bit, gain fat a bit and yoyo intermittent fasting and gaining muscle till I gain those 9 pounds again, and hopefully stay there, and yoyo back to that point which the NHS BMI calculator says is my healthy weight.

It's weird that I only felt the benefit of losing weight, more keenly several months after losing most of it.

It may be me - if offered lots of power at the flick of a switch and not having to make any effort I find it impossible to say no. I had a cadence sensor kit that killed its (admittedly cheap) battery quickly that way some years ago. A torque sensor feels as if it makes me do the right thing (get exercise) against my less better nature

I know what you mean - mine is set to 100% current at 100% assistance nearly all the time, and the only time I get any actual exercise is when I exceed it's assistance after the cutoff of 25kph. Consequently, I've steadily been cycling faster... which of course would be very hazardous to one's health if rapidly stopped by another object. So I've returned to slow jogging for real exercise, for however long that enthusiasm lasts. I expect cold mornings will kill it. It's a good thing my body enjoys slow jogging.

I've never seen a Gospade on these forums, you'd be Gospade pioneering trailblazer! I've never seen a electrified Bickerton either.

There must be something horribly wrong with Gospades if they're very rare - I'm hoping you'll get one, so I can know what the problem is. It's best to risk someone else's money ;)

I wish I had time to walk several miles every day, it is course a very effective and largely safe (for most people) weight loss method. Being lost in sunny Sicily sounds great! I might manage a Spanish getaway soon.

I've given up and rejoined the gym and treadmill, memories of slithering around icy roads in darkness in the shires last winter now feel mad and masochistic. But all of it feels the wrong work life balance. Its a very long way from being montalbano. Get what you say about it being good body enjoys slow run, don't know what I'd do without it.

So many lies, so much deception, but - true or not - I like this story:

Ukraine using wooden decoys to lure Russia into wasting its missiles - report
Replicas of US-supplied rocket launcher systems drew at least 10 Russian Kalibr cruise missiles, reports say

A Kalibr is reported to cost around $6.5 million. (Unclear if that is the price to Russia or an equivalent cost in the USA.)

Looks like Ukraine should be snuggling up close to Ikea for their new ranges of dummy military kit. Why, the Russians have even chosen an Ikea-esque name - Kalibr.
It was such an obvious ploy .,even I had thought of it weeks ago. Timber mockups on artic chassis driving around. . There must be both Russian drones and Russian spies around

Use of decoys in WWII has been extensively recorded and reported.

Which makes me wonder why they have said that is what they have been doing? People don't usually give away their game plans halfway through.

I can come up with a few thoughts but anything obvious is likely not to be true - or true as a double-bluff. After all, Russia and Ukraine have produced some of the top chess players. They are not short on brainpower.

i think the plan is to get so many ppl that cant afford to pay for electric and gas they will come up with lets put everyone in debt on smart pre pay meters that cost even more to use and reports the usage back to them 48 times a day to screw you even harder.

they wont give a crap if you freeze or starve to death and the dwp has no duty of care for the public you will be better of in prison that cost 40k per year.

the garden centre got raided buy a load of kids couple of weeks ago and nothing in the local rag about it as dont want ppl to know about it and the new ebike shop is next door so lucky they never got done as well.
Look on the bright side
She's a tiny step away from decriminalising class a drugs..

I can barely remember the last time i went to a gym. They're always warm, many are in contant use, and it's here that superbugs are made . Only the meanest survive constant antibacterial chemical application... it's survival of the flesh eating baddest. Aircon ensures delivery of airborne nasties. Great eyecandy in gyms though. I prefer compund exercises using free weights. Gym machines only exercise a few muscles at a time, whereas compound exercises with weights or bodyweight uses dozens. My preference is bodyweight exercises. Bought a suspension harness, which is fantastic.

In agony having (by bike) towed 156.5kg 16 miles yesterday, I really should have taken a plunge into a cold bath afterwards. Where's my ibuprofen?

Muscles are useful things. I've discovered that I can no longer open plastic packaging. Am I becoming feeble, or has plastic packaging become vastly stronger? I struggled and gave up trying to open the wrapping of a chocolate bar the other day, had to go look for scissors. Trying to get at cherry tomatoes last night, was almost as difficult.
