Think OG is running Diplomacy between France and UK at moment. France taking their bat and ball home, well their diplomats in Australia and US... Think the president with small man syndrome is leaving the UK ones in place.. 5th Columnists..
Will this EU army ever materialise.. Probably a few decades late.
UK should not have got involved with the Aukus deal.
It's clear that the US wants to sell their subs to Australia.
We have nothing to gain and a lot to lose. What is our part in the deal? probably crumbs, we would sell some lawyers consultation on how to get round the NPT that Australia has signed.

What happened to the promise that "Energy will be cheaper"
After Brexit
I'm not sure that Brexit has had that much effect on UK energy prices, more like the collapsing privatised UK energy market and a complete failure of forward planning of energy supply by government.
My energy supplier ceased trading last week and it is anticipated that after winter the current 70 or so suppliers will be whittled down to 10. Bulb has asked the government for a bail out for it to continue trading. As Ofgem passes the customers of failed energy suppliers onto another company I can see many people having numerous supplier changes over the coming winter.

Thank you , in France's place I would have done the same as they did, they have moron voters just as we do, and it really is not good enough to say the USA doesn't owe them anything like this.
"But the second painful truth exposed by the Aukus affair is that the US no longer has any great interest in the outdated behemoth that is Nato. Nor does it harbour any particular loyalty to those who have stood by its side.

Stood by it's side?
Christ on a bike!
France was the first ally of the new United States in 1778. The 1778 treaty and military support proved decisive in the American victory over Britain in the American Revolutionary war.
France fared poorly, with few gains and heavy debts, which were contributing causes of France's own revolution and eventual transition to a republic.. The relationship had always been important for both nations.
Ingrate B******s these ex colonials
EU needs a military... And quickly. The next centuries allegencies are forming..without a military how does EU hope to compete. Idealism to the last... Unless Micron gets his way???
This Aukus was always on cards. Diesel electric subs from France? Would be like buying coal driven warships in 1916...Exactly same actually. Australia is worried about China. First rule of any Government is to defend its Citizens. Yes, the way France has been treated is wrong... But perfectly understandable in circumstances.
I wonder what stance EU and especially France will take when China invades Taiwan??

Yep, I wonder what commitments we, ve made in secret... Stand by Australia if they retaliate for Taiwan??
By the way, without us it wouldn't have been Aukus... (we are the UK bit stuck in the middle, holding coats, whilst the big lads fight.)
Let's face it AFUS was never going to work.

dont think politics have anything to do with it. It's about money only and big arms companies (us &uk) twiddling finger puppets biden and boris to make it come their way.

I just had to renew (tariff end 30/9, my luck), and all cheap deals have been pulled. My direct debit will go up25%. What happens to your tariff if a large supplier take over your supply?

Money and big arms companies are politics. Krupps, Vickers made as many decisions as any PM in WW1.

China is playing the clever long game over Taiwan.

They'll only take it at the best opportune moment when the west is at its weakest amd most fragmented.

They calculate that if timed well, it will be another Crimea. Lots of huffing and puffing from the west but nothing much done.

What can the west do?

If we attack them all our essential supplies that they make will stop.

If we defend Taiwan, all our essential supplies that they make will stop.

If we sanction them, all our essential supplies that they make will stop.

They won't care, they largely feed themselves and much of that revenue is used to buy western assets. The west is in hock to them in so many ways.

With all that pension money building up with Covid, and nowhere to spend it, I decided in August to get some solar PV. .. I have had 6 sq metre of solar Thermal for over a decade, now . Anyway they were installed about 2 weeks ago, and they are great fun... 4 panels facing due south, and unshaded, 7 panels facing due West and basically unshaded. Specified as 3.6KW peak, it cannot get that high, with the orientation but does get up to 3KW
. But I reckon before any price hikes, scheduled for this month, it is a Return on Investment ROI of 10%.
The price of the panels has dropped through the floor, and their performance , even in cloudy conditions impressive.

So why didn't the Australians as the French for Nuclear submarines? they were the ones who asked for diesel electric after all.
And frankly what use are submarines they won't get for twenty years?
You can sink ships only with submarines that you actually have.
Not ones promised twenty years after you need them, even if they are faster and go further
This was an idiotic decision.
Sorry China come back in twenty years and we'll show you what for?
I do hope the Aussies have asked for all the instruments in these subs to carry Mandarin Characters too.
Actually regarding Taiwan the USA said they would not go to war over it as it is part of China, so why should any other country?
Come to think of it the notion that they would go to war if it broke out between OZ and China is about as likely as the greased piglet telling the truth.

"The gas and electricity regulator Ofgem will arrange for your account to be transferred to a new supplier.
"There won't be a break in your supply when it's transferred over, although the price you pay for your energy might go up - and that's when you can consider switching supplier, and you won't be charged an exit fee to do so."
Further information about the collapse of the energy firms can be found on the Ofgem website.

Ask Australia, not me.
Suspect its not just the practical issue of the submarines, it's the alliance it suggests..
Perhaps you should be defense minister aswell... You seem to have a handle on what a countries (all countries) needs defensively are just like you know everything about Brexit. Amazing.
All wrapped up in perpetual offensiveness. Nice one OG. You really should be a diplomat.Taliban are recruiting. You, ll walk the interview.
And it was to get one over the snotty little Micron. Nothing to do with submarines.
Besides, if you really were in firing line, even only potentially, who would you choose as an ally. France and EU or US and UK..
Australia seems to think the latter. Can't imagine why.
On a serious note.
No nation will ever say they would go to war over China invading Taiwan. They know its so likely doing so would be tantamount to declaring war... That won't stop nations supporting Taiwan. Australia knows full well France certainly wouldn't, but chances are, US, UK and Australia certainly would... As joint exercises in South China Sea between those three nations are demonstrating to China..and anyone else watching.
And Aukus isn't just about future Nuclear submarines. There are strategic agreements and a first from US. It will be first time since WW2 USA has shared military secrets /technology with any other country apart from UK. (Nuclear submarine propulsion technology will be shared with Australia)
But, I, m still not sure exactly what our roll in all this has been. Not sure why we are involved or sending our Aircraft Carrier:Frigates etc to region.

Isn't this cutting your nose.... Jeapordising a trade deal??? Punishing Australia... And yourself.

Part of Aukus deal is also to lease Nuclear Subs from UK or US whilst waiting for delivery of their own.
France*s reaction isn't just about the loss of a 40 billion Euro deal. Its more about Australia aligning itself with US and UK and less so with France.

Ultimately, you will end up in the hands of Shitish Gas who will make a complete clusterfuck of all your billing history and meter readings. They will then overcharge you.

When you try to call Shitish Gas to resolve your billing issues, you will spend a minimum of 30 minutes on hold. You will then be put through to a service agent who is working on a laptop, at home, on their kitchen table. Whilst dealing with your enquiry, the service agent will be simultaneously hosting a children’s party and breastfeeding a goat. It’s their right under work / life balance.

After numerous promises and apologies, absolutely nothing will be done to rectify the problems you are experiencing.

Welcome to the private energy market. It’s going to drive down prices for the consumer via increased competition.

Download all of your billing history, take lots of pictures of your meter readings and set up your own spreadsheet to calculate your bills for comparison purposes. Oh, and lodge your complaint to OFGEM today.

Just watched an old video of Johno visiting the US of A as Foreign Secretary
This is his response after being nailed to the wall by his scrotum for being a liar and cheat by a journalist

"“I’m not going to apologise for what I’ve said in the past, because it would take too long.”

I'm thinking that would look good on my tombstone.

And his of course

those subs can be fitted with both diesel engines and nuclear power generators.
The French complain about lots of modifications to their designs, the Aussies complain about about price hikes.
