Well, I'm living (Currently) proof that double Jabbed isn't the golden bullet. I'm widowed, live alone, Haven't been out of the house for a few weeks other than shopping and visiting my wife's grave to place flowers and guess what.. Yep, you are ahead of me. I have been diagnosed with Covid 19. I'd felt pretty crap for a few days so thought I would confirm it was just a bad cold with a test but erm.. No. 65y so not exactly in the "Doomed" category but I do feel pretty sorry for myself at the moment with a god awful cold and aches from head to foot.. No other symptoms thankfully - Breathing etc ok.

I reported it to my employer and the reply was luckily you work from home so at least you won't have to have any time off. Thanks for your concern - I live to serve. o_O

Oh well I guess it could have been worse if I had been an anti vaxxer. (Sp)??

I haven't said that, it's just your wrong interpretation of the impossible, imagining that it can be ignored.
.
Of course the government policy is the end justifies the means
It relies on allowing people to die to protect the economy in the full knowledge they are doing so .
Criminal, and they are no longer even attempting to avert disaster, but deliberately liberating a mass killer disease from any attempt to fight it.

Remember, doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result is the definition of madness.
Absolutely true

All we have to do is wait until as many as possible are vaccinated rather than condemn thousands to a possible disabling or deadly disease.
Economies can recover
I have never heard of a dead person doing so.

Almost every government is doing that, balancing deaths against cost of avoidance. And not just for Covid, it's why we have NICE deciding which medicines we can afford, not always which work best.

Sorry OG, but you seem to be in a dream word where money is unlimited.

It isn't, where expenditure on health is concerned, our government is only doing what all governments do because they have to.

It makes you wonder how New Zealand manages to do rather better then eh?
Sorry this is all BS
The simple fact is we are risking what potentially could evolve into an extinction event out of crass stupidity permitting enough cases to evolve Covid into a deadly virus as bad as Ebola.
Money is such a problem? REALLY? how then do other nations cope?

So NICE doesn't exist? Wake up OG, every government rations health to what they can afford.

They cope because they don't waste £300 billions to achieve a worse result.

What Rishi Sunak did was daft as I've said before. Instead of leaving people at work with precautions where they'd be safer, he paid people to stay at home and paid businesses to shut. But those employees didn't stay cooped up at home as you well know. They and their families socialised together at their homes or crowded onto beaches on nice days, doing a great job of spreading Covid.

Other countries weren't that daft and let their economies carry on functioning with suitable precautions advised, masks, separation at work as far as possible or working from home when they could. They didn't pay people to go to the beach instead of working.

that money bought time for the vaccine.
Now we have it/them, BJ does not have to worry about the moral hasard of the Swedish approach.

As I made clear and so did the actions of the public, that money didn't buy time. It placed people at greater risk and spread the virus much more. Don't you remember the crowded beaches and other locations as people enjoyed their greatly extended paid holidays?

this country is much more densely populated compared to the European average. You try to tell the people to keep themselves to themselves, social distancing, not many will follow your advice.
They know now there is long covid and still want to book a holiday in Spain.
If we hadn't had lockdown last winter, the death toll would have more than doubled.
On an average day, 1,400 people die. If you have more than 200 excess deaths a day, you have a moral hasard. And the NHS becomes totally gridlocked before that.
I have kept my shop mostly closed since March last year, still closed now.
I can't see how we would learn to live with covid. 3 of us are over 60, so it's really to protect ourselves.

So NICE doesn't exist?
In some ways, NICE is a major problem.

They can't do some of the things you might hope and expect.

For example, they have to regard the prices of medicines as fixed. They are not in a postion to push to get costs down other than by using different medicines - which might not work as well, or even at all.

It can take a long time for NICE guidance to catch up with science. They have a review date system rather than actively surveilling, for example, new publications.

We’ve done the New Zealand thing. There’s a bloke called Derek and a sheep living there. It’s much easier to control.

Put the New Zealand government in charge over here and they’d do better than Johnson, but there would be more deaths than they had in New Zealand. It has a lot to do with population density and population stupidity. We do very well on the last point.

But not relevant to what I posted to OG. That the existence of NICE and its equivalent in other countries proves that all governments balance cost against lives in health care.

So whether it's liked or not, every life has a cash value in a modern governed society.

In your second and last sentences you are arguing against yourself. That people cannot be trusted to protect themselves, but you all do. :D

As I've pointed out, at first people won't do as advised, but as they see the consequences of what they know is their own actions, they'll soon change. We are going to get more deaths anyway, so as I've said, put them to good use in showing the public that only they have the answer at present.

The problem with the government rigidly enforcing protection is that the people can and do blame them when it all goes wrong, even when it's themselves to blame as it mostly is.

it has to protect the NHS and the majority of its citizens.
Just ask yourself how many covid hospital admissions a day the NHS can take.
Blaming those who do not protect themselves is a cop out for BJ's government.

Dear oh dear, how many times?

They are not protecting the NHS and public by helping the public to put themselves at severe risk by paying them not to work, but socialise and go to the beach instead.

The government has just been reported on the news as making exactly my point, that only the public have the answer. I just hope that this time they strongly spell that out, rather than taking heavy handed control again, so giving the public the chance to blame them when it all goes wrong.
