Brexit, for once some facts.

He's do his usual, carry on bluffing it out until it becomes impossible to sustain, all the time hoping for something to turn up.
.
Irreversible has now become, hopefully irreversible. A subtle change which has appeared in the last few days.

Would it actually hit 420000 / day? At that rate, after a couple of weeks the whole country would have it. Think of all the long COVID cases.
The consequences of 100,000 a day would be bad enough...

Data predicts 2m UK summer Covid cases with 10m isolating
Guardian analysis prompts health warnings as Javid says England entering ‘uncharted territory’
Two million people could contract Covid this summer, potentially meaning up to 10 million must isolate in just six weeks, Guardian analysis shows, prompting warnings over risks to health and disruption to the economy.

The figures come as Sajid Javid, the health secretary, said England was entering “uncharted territory” in its wholesale scrapping of lockdown rules from 19 July. New infections could easily rise above 100,000 a day over the summer, he said, more than at any point in the pandemic.

Anyone notice that the expendable plebs are packed into the stands like sardines at Wembley, whilst those in the VIP box, who’s lives are worth more, are still seated over 2M apart.

This is definitely not going to end well. I’m almost certain they are going to blow the advantage we had with vaccination. They blew the early warnings we were fortunate to get when COVID first struck in mainland Europe in 2020.

We will be back to square one by November. It’s pitiful.

Not Brexit but the thread has gone a bit OT from time to time.

Impressive claim from Volvo.

Just a number of points .. The UK did not do as well with the vaccines as the propaganda suggests. While a significant fraction of the population got the single jab, the percentage with the full vaccine is now drifting below Europe. Moreover, the AZ appears not to have been the bees knees ,we all hoped it was. .. especially at one jab . The UK has the largest population vaccinated with the AZ and Ireland is next. Now all vaccination is good , but apparently the others , particularly at the full recommended dosages, and timings are better.
Worse there are now at least two later variants in play E and L

what number of daily cases is needed to force a u-turn?

is there any plausible reason why the number of cases should stop growing?

Just what we want. A tired lorry drive nodding off at the wheel on a smart motorway, and a family of four stationary in a broken down Focus 1/2 mile up the road.
Great news! Tiredness won't be a problem:

See? what could possibles go wrong?

I’m no expert, but would new infections cease once everyone has it? Or would people start getting reinfected again? I don’t know. Both are pretty bleak.

I think 100K infections per day and < 500 being popped by the virus each day is something Johnson could live with. He’d make that sacrifice on behalf of us all so people wouldn’t need to place a tissue over their mouths.

like the common cold, people will get re-infected, again and again.
OG posted yesterday a link to an article that explains very well why if you are vaccinated, your immune system will fight covid far better compared to someone who has not been, even if that person is younger than you.

I have several family members that work in the NHS, and virtually everyday they are telling me about people catching Covid who have already had both jabs. I am not talking about huge numbers just ones and twos I suspect people that were vaccinated last December or January are going to need a booster before Winter.

I think the UK is more or less acting as a lab experiment for the rest of the World. We are one of a very few countries that have
1. Fairly high vaccination rates
2. Fairly high and rising infection rates.
3. Getting rid of most of our lock down measures.

I certainly would not like to be one of the people that has to take decisions in a pandemic that affect everyone, I think though if I was I would probably do the following.
1. Reduce lockdown measures slower than currently planned, in particular don't have things like so called freedom days.
2. While infection rates are rising do not be looking at getting rid of all lockdown measures.
3. Be honest with the population and not try and score stupid points against other countries.

I wonder if some people are more susceptible to reinfection than others. Especially ones who were ill early 2020.

Lots of people questioning grey hydrogen...
they call their hydrogen 'green hydrogen' though.
Still, it makes sense to capture and store the by-product CO2 from the process of making hydrogen and the location seems appropriate.
