Flecc isn't reading it like that but that's exactly the point made by scientist on radio this morning.. It protects against severe illness. But point is actually irrelevant, do Flecc, OG and Danidl actually suggest we stop vaccination programme..??? Or keep going with the goal of reducing burden on NHS from older strains so that T and T can concentrate on strains least reduced by vaccine.
There is simply no rationale behind Flecc and OG point.. Yes, the vaccine isn't as effective against SA strain... Now what. Stop making vaccines? Goverent do what exactly? Individuals do what?
Personally keeping my head down and hoping for vaccine ASAP. I, ll take my chances with SA strain and expect even if I got it that it would be mild to moderate. Not severe?
What are flecc, OG and Danidl suggesting? Are you 3 still having vaccine? Of course you are when it's offered. But in mean time working your hardest to point out vaccine flaws, UK's poor strategy and putting gloating vaxers off having jab.
And BTW, the less effective the jab is the more that must have it to work.
Yes, it’s precisely the point.

It’s very early days to draw any too many conclusions and the SA research is based on a relatively small number of people.

When you boil all the crap out of what the nay-sayers are repeating, the AZ vaccine doesn’t appear to be as effective on SA Coronavirus as it is on Mk1 Coronavirus. To some extent that’s to be expected. However, the AZ vaccine still shows signs of being effective in preventing a mild to moderate SA Variant Covid infection developing into a severe case. If that’s true, and we don’t know for certain if it is yet, that’s still a good reason to take the AZ vaccine.

The truth is it's better than nothing that's about as far as we can go ,if you can't get an alternative that's better it's Hobson's choice

As usual your facts are slightly skewed.
The Spitfire was always an 8 gun fighter from the start. Some were modified to accept 30mm Canon but experienced problems as they had to be e mounted on their sides owing to narrow wing. The Hurricane was a better gun platform because it was bigger and because the guns were mounted more inboard its wings flexed less when firing.
Yes, Hurricane outnumbered Spitfires and arguably shot more planes down but its generally accepted had we only had Spitfires we could have still not lost Battle of Britain. With just Hurricanes we would have lost. The Hurricane was no match for me 109 whereas Spitfire was.

That makes absolutely no sense.

The SA variant doesn't develop in any other cases of the infection. Someone either catches the SA variant or another form of the infection in the first instance.

If you meant developing into a severe case, there's no evidence at all of that.

Good, less negativity, that’s progress. You are getting there.

You can have a shot of SA Variant vaccine later in the year if needed.

At this time the Kent variant is the threat in the U.K. and the AZ vaccine works well on that.

Yes I kept it simple by not bringing in the cannon into it and sticking to the machine gun grouping in fours. It wasn't just the inboard mounting that gave the Hurricanes their gun superiority. It was the close grouping of each four gun group being much more destructive of targets hit so more kills resulting from successful hits.

There's no "arguably" about Hurricanes shooting down more planes. By the end of the war the smaller total of Hurricanes had far more kills than the Spitfires. Unless of course the RAF and Air Ministry are wrong about that.

but its generally accepted had we only had Spitfires we could have still not lost Battle of Britain. With just Hurricanes we would have lost. The Hurricane was no match for me 109 whereas Spitfire was.
I don't accept that. The far greater number of Hurricanes, over 2 to 1, and their more devastating guns would have succeeded, but probably at the cost of more losses.

Yes, it’s a typos which I have corrected. It should read, to prevent a mild or moderate case progressing and becoming a severe case.

Perhaps be less confident of that.

Tonight's news bring us the information that the spread of the South Africa variant is likely to have been far wider then is being assumed from current figures. That's because it is far more difficult to detect than the others.

That is very bad news since our containment efforts using Test and Trace are based on the few cases we do know of, and lets face it, Test and Trace has been far from a resounding success.

Given that containment is the only weapon we have, if the SA variant gets as fast a hold nationwide as the Kent one did, we are going to be in some form of lockdown for a very long time yet.

"New research suggests that new coronavirus variants may spread more easily than the regular, or wild type coronavirus. Fifty-five countries have now reported the presence of the coronavirus variant B.1.1.7, originally identified in the UK, and 23 countries have identified the 501Y.V2 variant, originally identified in South Africa."

I’ve always been of the opinion that if one case is found, it’s been here for a while, has spread and is out of control. We never stood any chance of containing the SA variant. Just hope it doesn’t become the dominant strain
