Yet amazingly EU have not placed orders with them. Apparently EU had exploratory talks on 12th Jan but no commitments yet????
Valneva staff have actually commented they can't switch supply on and off at short notice and need orders ASAP to guarantee delivery..??? Strange.

They dropped a *******. It’s ok, there’s no need to be so defensive, it makes the situation look worse than it is.
No. It is a lot more personal than that. had the EC DELIBERATELY ignored the NI Protocol , we, and I speak for a majority in the RoI would have been very angry and feel betrayed. Therefore we did need to get to the bottom of it. to us this is not just a few snide headlines.

That’s quite astonishing. The only error that is acceptable in a situation like this is ordering too much vaccine. It can always be passed on to other countries.

I hope the EU gets on top of this vaccine supply issue. They need to move more quickly and state their intent so that the manufacturers can start gearing up.

They are many months away from authorisation. They are only getting into their small scale trials now , with results hoped for at end April , then there is the large scale phase 3. So assume that these are next Octobers production.

That was EU's argument for not ordering AZ last June(?) which UK did.??? Are they making same mistake again??
They are much better ordering too early and running risk of either having too many or backing a loser??? Even had govt paid I, m pretty sure agreements would be reached if drug failed trials or authorisation.
To my mind it doesn't make sense. Private companies can't be expected to produce drug, take all risks with no commitment from government.???

their vaccine is whole virus, inactivated. A bit like our flu vaccine.
I think the general consensus is this type of vaccine does not cope well with mutations.

It’s going to be a 2022 vaccine planned for the medium term. It’s likely to need a tweak before it’s rolled out I guess.

Out of the seven vaccines the U.K. moved early on, four have come good and this latest one looks like being the fifth. Quite remarkable.

It's not a mistake, Valneva isn't yet a sufficiently working vaccine to commit to it. The EU is being sensible and cautious with their citizen's money. Our government is throwing around our peoples future incomes in diverse directions with complete abandon and it will end in tears.

The EU’s vaccination procurement model isn’t exactly a sparkling success. Empty vaccination centres, fury at lack of vaccine across EU member states, some countries going it alone out of frustration and buying Russian vaccine, international embarrassment with their desperate attempts to claw back what they have lost by dithering. It’s a bit of a shambles and not something we should aspire to.

The U.K. will work with our friends and help them though.

The Isle of Man has removed all lockdown rules at midnight last night, life there is completely back to normal.

Their secret was the total virtual closure of their borders, key workers and those having genuine compassionate grounds have been the only exceptions.

It’s very much easier to achieve with tiny populations living in low density settings on an island. The U.K. mainland is a dense cesspool of idiots in some areas, very much more difficult to control.

My sister-in-law lives on Newfoundland. I think they’ve had five cases. She has no concept of Covid. It’s just something that exits on the news.

Alternative could be far worse than tears. It's an area that I wouldn't mind them wasting money on if it came to that.

On a lighter note, I’ve just taken these two sourdough loaves out of the oven. Made using organic grain milled in the next village.

It’s quite a labour intensive process, I started making the dough on Saturday evening and they only went in the oven an hour ago.

I have been making my own bread, but not sourdough, throughout.

If it weren't just me who eats it, I'd definitely be trying sourdough but it seems less than worth doing for me alone.

I have been very, very pleased at how well they have come out. Even the first loaf was nice. I do usually use a slow rise technique.

No. I will take the vaccine when it's my turn but I am in no particular rush.
I wait for new treatments, monoclonal antibodies. Stuff like casirivimab and imdevimab will eventually prove effective treatments.

The EU is suffering from a conspiracy.

Because the UK has the hump at not getting the trade and fishing deal it wanted, it's gone all out to corner the market and manufacturing of as many vaccines and possible vaccines as it can. This government is squandering our money to buy up ten times more vaccine than we need, just to deny vaccines to the EU.

Then to pretend they are being charitable they'll give the vaccines that don't work well to the EU.

They'll make us suffer for it though, watch out for more Audis with defective steering, VWs that use twice the juice they should and a shortage of Bonne Maman Creme Brulee.
