How quickly can the govt set up and administer the necessary rapid testing and follow up. With lorries all over Kent and backed up beyond.

This will need the military to step in rather than usual cronyism & giving way millions of quid to stick a plaster on the problem at hand. Even when we'd supposedly prepared for years to handle a similar situation.

I bet Boris didn't envisage 50 countries isolating the UK when he boasted how 'world beating' we'd become.

Exceedingly pleased I do not live in or near Kent.

How many lorries did Johnson say?

Almost 3,000 lorries reportedly stranded in Kent, England, following France border closure

There are currently almost 3,000 lorries stranded in Kent, England, a press officer for Kent County Council told CNN on Tuesday afternoon. They are stranded because France closed its border with Britain on Sunday following the emergence of a new Covid-19 variant discovered in the UK.
There are 632 lorries on the M20 motorway – a key gateway to the continent for freight trucks traveling in and out of the UK – and 2,188 lorries in the Manston Airport carpark, the press officer said.
On Monday, the UK enacted "Operation Brock" in a bid to keep traffic moving on the M20 during periods of cross-Channel disruption. The motorway barrier system was designed to deal with potential traffic disruption at the end of the Brexit transition period.
Lorries arriving in Kent en route to the port of Dover or the Eurotunnel are being diverted to Manston Airport to park.
The operation involves using a contraflow road layout on the M20 London-bound carriageway between junctions 9 and 8 (from Ashford to Maidstone) and directing lorries heading for mainland Europe onto the coastbound carriageway, where they can be queued if necessary.
Hauliers have been advised to avoid traveling to Kent as disruption could last for several days.

This mainly affects the south east of Kent and the M20. I'm on the south-east London/Kent border and it isn't affecting our region, traffic has been moderate except the odd known regular delay spots.

Our supermarkets were dead yesterday but got very busy this morning with queues around the car parks and Waitrose were very busy with their own online "Click and Collects", plus John Lewis "Click and Collects", they no doubt benefitting from so many shops forced to physically close.

During the briefing at 5:00 pm yesterday, Johnson said there was about 170 lorries stuck in Kent and he was very hopeful that things would start moving within a few hours.

Was he lying, or did his claim that things would start moving within a few hours encouraged more lorries to converge on the port?

Either way, it’s another epic government failure and more over promising and under delivering. He’s created another mess.

You just might have thought some of the supermarkets, which are so obviously utterly reliant on these drivers, would do something? Wouldn't seem too far fetched for the nearest Ocado, Tesco, Sainsbury, Lidl, Aldi, etc., to deliver a few vans of food. And whatever else is needed.
Have started emailing supermarkets to ask what they are doing - in the hope someone is triggered to act.

Anyone on Twitter or other suitable places for shaming them?

And what is to become of the Human waste the lorry drivers have to leave behind?
Lets face it they have little access to facilities and have to make do.
I suggest the Cabinet are given shovels and a cart to go in and do the first real work they have done in their lives :D

Interesting that no one wonders why news of the Brexit negotiations aren't given a great deal more media attention, it's effects will last far longer that this dreadful pandemic
