As I write this, I am listening to the plan to reopen Ireland , starting from Monday next. I would have wished that the UK would have been blessed with the same level of public service from their ministers. The speech from our Minister for Health was masterful.
Everyone on the same page, and huge emphasis on personal responsibility.
Unlike...

Wales’ first minister Mark Drakeford said the UK government had not discussed the decision to make the wearing of face masks on public transport mandatory in England.

He said he wished the Welsh government had had the chance to discuss it with the UK government before the announcement was made, adding:

That would have allowed us to have some answers to the questions that I raised today before the event rather than after the event.

But while on the bulk of issues we continue to be able to have discussion and co-operation in advance of decision making, in a small number of cases we hear about it only after the decision has been made.

We had no advance notice from the Department of Transport in England that this announcement was to be made.
We’re going to have to use the time we now have to find out from them the extent to which they have got answers to these questions in advance of making the decision, or whether it’s a matter of making the headline, and then worrying about the detail afterwards.

Being a poser as I am I thought I might knock-up a mask or two and stitch a designer Logo on them, too late...it's been done already.

I'd love to see greater freedom of movement but some people really are both stupid and very stupid:

NINE people from Cardiff, who had been caught camping in Abereiddy, have been sent home by police.

Police said that they had travelled down overnight in three vehicles and had moved the barriers that had been used to close the car park.

All nine people were reported for breaching coronavirus regulations.

One of them was also dealt with by means of an out of court disposal for possession of cannabis.

Pembrokeshire RPU stated that once the rubbish had been cleaned up and the car park closure was reinstated, the vehicles were escorted out of Pembrokeshire.

I'd have been very tempted to replace the barriers with heavy stone or concrete they couldn't possibly move. And wire up an electric fence.

That's happening all along the South Coast ATM. Large groups of mostly young people gathering in parks and common's, also along the seafront, some put up tents here and there. To be fair that happens every year anyway when the weather warms up, seems covid has made no difference to them.

The local Council's view is that it happens at this time of year youngsters letting rip etc, they just let them get it out of their system and clean up when they've all moved on. Like a open air music festival with people, noise, drugs and mess, it's cleared it all up afterwards and the grass soon recovers back to normal.

Heh heh heh, :D blessed indeed...
would that be the same Simple Simon Harris, the Irish Minister for Health who recently came out with this gem ->

"Remember this is coronavirus, Covid-19. That means there have been 18 other coronaviruses..."

Minister for Health Simon Harris made a slip-up on radio on Wednesday morning after claiming that there has been 18 other coronaviruses before Covid-19, seemingly implying that Covid-19 must be the 19th wave of the virus.
Appearing on 2FM Breakfast with Doireann and Eoghan on Wednesday morning, Harris said: "But remember this is coronavirus, Covid-19. That means there have been 18 other coronaviruses

I know the westminster lot in London are bad, but this is on another level of `stupid` entirely !!

Many a true word spoken in jest...

Doctors have already claimed they were treating patients with corona like symptoms way back last winter, perhaps he was mixing his metaphors or whatever.

Handcock says we are doing well. We’ve done 357 over the last 24 hours, so in that sense we are doing well. I believe that on Wednesday this week, we did similar numbers to today, and that was more than ALL 27 EU country’s death tolls added together. So again, if we are trying to kill people, we are doing well.

How can they stand there and say that?

One possibility is of course that the warmer weather has killed off much of the virus and then of course it's even
more likely people are suffering in silence rather than face the inconvenience of isolation.
Naturally most will get away with it, and some will simply not be found until the smell becomes noticeable
it takes 18.5 days before increased infection rates become increased death rates (https://www.drugs.com/medical-answers/covid-19-symptoms-progress-death-3536264/)
I think were witnessing boris' third (or is it fourth or fifth?) covid blunder

Yes it is the same Simon. However recent is a relative term. That was 22 April. He had been working flat out for 2 months at that time. He corrected it within hours . And laughted at himself.
As letter writers at the time noted, there were plenty of people who were disappointed in having missed the the preceding two films in the series the Madness of King George the Third.
If you want to see how informing the public is done in a considerate manner , switch on the RTE player, .. a pleasure which might not be available to the mainland

Quick question...
When we start looting in this country, will there be a seniors only looting hour on a morning, and will NHS staff get priority looting?
Thanks.
Neither, we have official looting arrangements now.

They're called food banks, pre-stocked from the supermarkets so no special hours necessary.

Where were the scientists at today's briefing? Either Handcock is using dodgy aftershave, or maybe they didn't want to face the questions about the appalling death rate today. 357 dead at this stage is a big number and it makes you wonder about the wisdom of opening Ronald's, Schools and KFC. Or I suppose it is POETS day and the scientists are usually ESSO men & women, that could explain it.
