must a) make clear it is compulsory with no childcare let-out; b) have fines from the get-go (or not at all).
Emphatically no, there must be no compulsion, since compulsion and fines will ensure track and trace will fail.

The public aren't completely stupid. Once they get wind of the possibility of 14 days locked down in quarantine and a hefty fine for any breach, they won't declare any symptoms, they'll just keep their mouths shut.

And if they do that it will ensure even more viral spread.

I have a looooong story about the shielding list, so long you would be calling me Mogadon Man so I'll cut to the chase, the list is a load of balls.

When it was first created allegedly by Cummings it would have included so many people as to be pointless.
The whole idea was to protect food supplies & deliveries for not only the vulnerable, but also key workers like nurses etc. Now then, and this is not generally well known, the supermarkets wanted to have that list and manage it themselves after all they know how to manage their own stock. The Government not surprisingly said no due to data protection laws they will say who gets what and when.

My partner is Diabetic and also has other health issues...she's not on the list. We have both been on 100% lockdown including me because of her health problems.
She took this list issue up with a whole string of people, the local Council, various other official organisations and finally our MP and in every case she got short shrift, the list is sacrosanct....bye.
So she thought sod the Government and began getting in touch with the Supermarkets directly herself.
To cut it short she's not on the shielding list...she's on the Supermarkets personal list. She told them her medical condition as she has every right to do, she can tell who she likes and they deemed that warranted free deliveries as often as she likes with no waiting.
The Government once again interfered in something they knew nothing about and screwed it up.

So if Cummings or family get covid-19, more accurately, a symptom of covid-19, they will be just as able to flick a V-sign at the other 66 million in the country as they were?

They are saying fines will be put in place later (probably, at least). It wasn't me angling for them. But if they are going to do so, they cannot allow a meandering route from here to fines being imposed at some point.

The word "must" has been used. What does that mean without any sanctions at all?

It means they stress the importance of co-operation, without any bullying. That gets the best outcome, co-operation from all who will, none from those who never co-operate.

The outcome from bullying threats is less co-operation from those who normally would but resent the threats, plus no co-operation again from those who never co-operate anyway.

i.e. Worse.

Did you even bother to look at the ONS numbers?
where are the ONS numbers regarding London?
The number of new confirmed cases (2500 a day) is an average over the last few days from the NHS website as reported to WHO.
Check out how many are still admitted to London hospitals requiring COVID treatment every day.
If only 24 are new confirmed cases a day, how many would still need hospitalisation?

BTW, yesterday 17 people died in London hospitals from COVID. London still accounts for roughly 10% of the UK total.

You still believe that only 24 new cases a day?

As I suspected, you don't even bother to read my posts before replying. I posted those ONS numbers and a link to the ONS web page bearing them.

But they are NOT London's reduced infection numbers nor is there any claim that they are. Those London numbers are in a different post where I posted whose they were, Public Health England and Cambridge University . Here's the link to that post.

Here's the link to my post with the ONS numbers so you can read it this time.

So two different posts for different statistics, one showing the high hit we took, the other showing the benefit of a quicker phase down as a result. You appear to have crossed your reading of the links.

I see Sajid Javid and Penny Mordaunt are not convinced by DC.

Historical note: Edison's support of DC was wrong-headed.

It was confusing process - I didn't get an initial letter, though saw something on gov website to self-register

https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable

but wasn't sure how I was going to pay for supplies - not wanting to put friends and family (Sis lives 40 miles away) out (busy with their kids, jobs and elderly relatives) so continued popping into town to Sainsbury & CO-OP to get my fave yellow sticker bargains and occaisonal bottle of rose / Shiraz.

Though did get a vague general text a few weeks later (April 15) from docs surgery to " Ask family, friends or local community groups to deliver the food and support you need." - nothing about shielding

I am perplexed at how Wales and England appear to be implementing different tracing systems.

Although it is very obvious for me, being where I am, the Wales/England border is very long and incredibly wiggly. So even with lockdown still largely in force in Wales, there will be a lot of cross-border movement. So ability to trace those in bith directions will be important. I don't quite see how they will mesh to allow that.

let's start again.
Your post includes this link:

https://www.cityam.com/london-now-counts-just-24-new-coronavirus-cases-per-day/

Fewer than 24 people are now catching coronavirus on a daily basis in London, according to new research suggesting the capital could soon be virus-free.
The research by Public Health England and Cambridge University suggests London could be coronavirus-free as soon as June, based on new modelling statistics.
the article did not include any link to the source of the study substantiating the '24-new-coronavirus-cases-per-day' in the title.

Feel free to point me to the study that says London will be MERS-COV-2 free by this weekend. I can't wait to go see my children and grand daughter.

I think a good tracking app would be great. I'm tech savvy but not security/privacy paranoid.

I think I won't be installing the app, but remain to be convinced one way or the other. I have a very low confidence in the way it has been put together; with significant risks from false positives and from privacy issues well into the future.

What are other's opinions?

I want to want to install the app and help with tracing.

Am inclined not to at present. Lack of trust in security and how well it has been written. Lack of proper explanation of how it is even supposed to work. Lots of questions about the possible linking to the (English) NHS app and facial recognition.

Best ask Public Health England and Cambridge University, I merely reported their reported findings, trusting that these respected bodies are generally reliable.

But they did NOT say free by this weekend, they said MAY be free for June which is 30 days long. Obviously it's for your risk assessment whether you travel in June, I would since the risks of this pandemic are obviously being greatly exaggerated.

I really shouldn't have to explain these points, should I?

Facial recognition? Why is that part of the T&T app?
