The risk is that if they don;t know thay are infected and travelling out of London while asymptomatic, with the symptoms only becoming apparent later. So on arrival at their second homes doing a shop there adding to demand and risking infection into uneffected communities.

Basically a national spread version of it using cars instead of international airliners.

Up the coast from me Southwold and Aldeburgh in Suffolk hit by London refugees - well we'll know in few days if cases start popping up.

Again. I disagree. The principle is that everyone believe that everyone else can infect them and they walk and interact accordingly. So whether one is or is not asymptomatic, you assume everyone else is. The 3 metre spacing works very well on paths and roads . Any of my local shops have set up floor marking ,a lot have put up simple acrylic screens between the till person and customer. They also require contactless payment.

that has to be the working principle until we know for sure how infectious the disease is.

Eurozone on brink: UK must NOT delay Brexit talks or risks facing EU ‘financial Chernobyl’ BRITAIN must not delay the end of the transition period to avoid the fallout from a "financial Chernobyl" in the eurozone caused by the impact of Covid-19. By DAVID MADDOX

This man is definitely determined to criminally destroy the future of this country.
Does he imagine for one moment that after the sheer financial damage done by the Covid 19 epidemic this country will be able to operate outside the EU?
And especially when run by people who are proving utterly incompetent to deal with the present situation?
Brexit has become a Criminally lunatic idea that must be stopped in it's tracks before lethal damage is done.

there will always be a few fundamentalists like him on any big subject.
CORVID19 is a much bigger subject than brexit. Tens of millions of us are forced to take garden leaves not hundreds of thousands losing their jobs and our government will need to borrow hundreds of billions of Euros, RMBs and Dollars instead of dozens to pay for imports in competition with other G7 countries. Who is going to lend us the money?
As for this government, they are not going to take it from the rich. For years, they have left everything to 'market forces', now when state intervention is an absolute necessity, BJ and his supporters just don't have a clue. They obviously wanted to believe that CORVID19 is not that bad and will pass quickly.
Brexit can always wait until the economy is back on its track, that may be a couple of years, may be even longer.

‘That’s my working principle. I assume that inside my home is virus free and that everything outside it, including people, will infect us. The front door opens into a “boot room“ beyond which is the hallway. Nothing, including groceries, post and parcels makes it out of the boot room and into the house without being cleaned with an anti-viral agent. Apart from me and my wife, no one is entering the house either.

There is a good network of isolated paths in the countryside near me too. I can sometimes walk, run or cycle for a couple of hours and see nobody. This weekend has been very different, it’s been very busy, lots of families walking and cycling. Surely shutting the boozers hasn’t made that much difference? Hard to believe all these extra people are normally downing ale.

Eurozone on the brink? The Euro has strengthened against the Pound amidst the Covid crisis. So which is weathering the storm best?

I strongly believe in press freedom, but not freedom to print this garbage. It is blatantly lying, and that has to be stopped.

Undoubtedly, that was the strategy, let the elderly perish in order to protect wealth. They will have examined the stats from China, which indicates the average age for fatalities is 78.5, fed that data into their spread sheets, and arrived with a solution of letting old people die. Package that as “herd immunity “ get The Mail and Express on board and the jobs a good un.

If things get a lot worse (which seems likely) then what do you folks thing of a National Government with Sunak as PM and Keir Starmer as his deputy?

Will Hutton writes about it here

Try the other way round
The Conservatives are proving to be a lethal bunch of nutters that simply must go before they kill more of the public

A government of National Unity sounds good until you begin to examine the pool of talent from which the hopefuls will be selected. Then it doesn’t look so good.

How about a German government? Their infection to death ratio seems better than most other countries. How about asking them to have go. It couldn’t be any bigger **** up.

For some time now I have been thinking about such issues.

At the very least, there should be some sort of invitation of some Labour and SNP people into the government.

I'm getting the impression Sunak is getting over-praised.

But what is also absolutely essential is to provide a mechanism for the HoC to at least be able to have some sort of remote meetings and voting. The need for MPs to be able continue representing their constituents even while in isolation is obvious. The need for the public to believe that is happening is fundamental.

Thank you IOC. We all know that the Olympic movement promots health through sport. (Don't we?)

CITIUS – ALTIUS - FORTIUS

More than 50,000 people queued to see the Olympic flame in northeastern Japan on Saturday.

Honestly.

Some people stood in the 500m queue for hours, according to local media.

The flame arrived in Japan to a scaled-down welcoming ceremony on Friday as doubts grew over whether the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will go ahead on schedule as the deadly virus causes chaos around the world.

Faster spread of coronavirus.
Higher infection and death rates.
Stronger impact.

Or has it become just a self-perpetutating, self-promotional movement with little remaining credibility?

The rates are for deaths against tested (and/or?) recorded infections. The UK is neither properly testing nor properly recording; this may well be true of other countries. The death rates are clearer (even with those there must be some uncertainty). So the ratios that get published are not a very good measure.

It may be that the Germans are just better at testing and recording, and that their ratios are not actually much better. Better testing and recording probably leads to better reduction of spread so may well lead to better outcomes. I certainly agree that they seem have handled it better overall.

people like Cummings misunderstand the subtlety in 'herd immunity'.
If the herd become immune, then the virus is stopped. That's the case of thousands of known viruses that live happily inside you and me.
CORVID19 is different. 4 out of 5 of us do not have immunity to it. That's why when 96 out of 100 of us do not die from it, 80 are spreaders and 4% of us will continue to die until an effective treatment is found.
Think of malaria. We still have not got 'herd immunity' after thousands of years living with the disease.

the Germans have mobilised more resources. They can do 20,000 tests a day, we do 6,000-7,000 a day. Germany tests many more young people - they may be found positive but don't die from it. We test only suspect cases.
However, we should concentrate on the growth rate of daily death count. That's the correct measurement of how the disease develops in each country.
this graph is a week old, you can get an updated one on the ft.com website but it is behind the paywall. You can still make out that Germany is nearer to Italy than the UK (13 days behind Italy).

Germany deaths double every 2 days.
UK deaths double every 3 days.
The rate will slow down slowly but not before hundreds of thousands have died before their time.

BJ and Cummings should get their head round this number.

The Olympics isn’t about sport. The Olympics is big money, and where there is big money, there is big corruption and big disregard for other people. It’s what us humans do.

My understanding is that as far as known no one's immune - Just younger you are the still less likely to get sick.
that''s the thing. Cummings and BJ don't get it.
The young today will be old and weak later. We will not get to herd immunity until only 1 of 5 is left, those without immunity are no longer alive.
Effective treatment will keep many of us alive but the right course of action is to eliminate the virus like leper.
