Can anyone explain what this post is supposed to mean?
It's Tommie's brand of triumphalism.
He has this endearing childlike idea that he is on the winning side and has much to celebrate whereas all of the "losers" will be crying tonight.
In fact Tommie is likely to end up crying when he wakes up to the fact that NI hasn't really left.

Think as part of getting over Brexit and us all trying to be rather more united I, m saying goodbye to thread. Been fun and worthwhile but the arguments, gloating, laying blame and criticism really must stop. Accepted, I, ve helped prolong much of the disagreements but really it is time to move on, whatever happens. Good or bad.
I, ll post occasionally in emtb section.

So what situation are we in right now?

Clearly there is a feeling of despondency as if Brexit is somehow over and done with.
It isn't, the Government would like us all to forget it and let them sweep away anything they regard as against the interest of whatever faction is financing them.

This is not a time of national reconciliation, nor does the Government want it to be.
They want a capitulation, and if we simply accept what they want us to do, which is shrug and ignore events, they will have reduced us to subservience.

The leavers spent 47 years bitching against the EEC and EU, they deserve to get the same treatment from those of us they have abused and mugged, by being bitched at in turn, and already they are providing ample reasons us to do so.

Virtually none of the promises made by them to the public now remain, if they want us to be reconciled, the answer is Honour those promises.
The truth is that was never their intention, was it? and already they have reneged on their commitments.
Our duty is to hold them to account by any and every legal means at out disposal, which is a courtesy that they don;t really deserve after the lies, false promises and criminality that has brought Brexit to pass

I am watching brexit news on Channel 4.

One interview went something like this:

Q: after today, will life be better?
A: it will take time
Q: how long? 5 years, 10 years?
A: may be more, I'll be dead and gone but my children and grand children will be British.

Now you have your answer what the majority wants from brexit.

As a world leading economy with immense technological capacity, masses of brains (and if we don't have enough, we can import what we want, that's what they said), we should be designing and building our own 5G stuff and then flogging it to the rest of the world. Shouldn't we?

Mind, from a personal point of view, why 5G? I suspect that even if we get token coverage in town (just so the operators can claim it), a few metres outside the centre it will revert to 4G, 3G and no G. Filling the gaps before really starting 5G (howsoever they do it - even if it requires co-operation between companies) should have been required as a condition of a 5G licence.

And Huawei equipment is already installed thoughout the country - so not to sure who's going to rip it all out, install new gear and pay for it...

But none of them are going to get it. Brexit as OG has intimated is a huge con by the government. They never wanted to leave the EU and still don't intend to now.

As all of them were agreed, the Theresa May deal which Boris Johnson has largely accepted isn't leaving and the EU has agreed it. And in the forthcoming trade talks we'll either be agreeing to the usual EU conditions on trade, including the EU's four pillars, free movement of goods, capital, services, and labour within the European Union. Or losing much of our business with the EU over time.

Meanwhile we've passed the Great Repeal Bill which has written all previously accepted EU law into UK law.

And to make today even more ridiculous, the celebrations by government and people are a year too early. It's like the millennium all over again when the real time and date was midnight on the next 31st December, as all the relevant authorities agreed.

The best the Brexiters will achieve next year will be freedom from some non-trade related laws the EU might pass in future and no legal requirement to join the euro. If anyone thinks that is leaving, they are deluded.

The other manufacturers will, without question. (Edit) that should be “would” given the opportunity.

When the original cellular mobile network was installed in the uk The network was engineered by two manufacturers, both networks functioned well yet after a short time one half was completely removed and replaced (at the other parties cost) to obtain the entire network business. It’s quite common.

I’ve been on both sides of it, without going into detail operation revenue market share x years is what matters, equipment cost is hardly a concern.

the article in theregister.co.uk website gives a clear explanation of the problem but it also add:

quote:

"Finding general issues is a good thing, but other vendors are not subject to this level of scrutiny. We have no real (at least not this in depth) assurance that products from rival vendors are more secure."

There is an opportunity for the UK to work with Huawei to develop an more robust 5G. Nothing stops us from working with Ericsson on more sensitive core elements.

*most of the criticism of Huawei is based on existing equipment that has CPUs running in single memory space. I suspect 5G kits run on more up to date CPUs.

from what I understand, the other suppliers (Ericsson, Nokia, Qualcomm, Cisco, Samsung, Altiostar etc) are also given the same opportunity.
Huawei got singled out because of their closeness to Chinese government but then one can say same about other companies and their countries.

Given the opportunity to replace another vendor even mid roll out.

yes, I think so. BJ did not get it wrong on this subject.
Huawei will always have the advantage on price but in the long term, quality of software will win the day.

I’m retired from that business and have no interest any longer.

From the little I have gleaned the others are no where near ready to (xxxx) so if the desire is pace then there it goes.

I did smile when it was suggested that some security concerns were to be mitigated by not placing the Chinese infrastructure near to our nuclear establishments including perhaps Chinese designed and built ones.

What I know with certainty is that nothing that you or I read in the press bears any resemblance whatsoever to the strategy or decision process, and rightly so!

if you mean the printed press then I agree but the technical websites are different.
We buy essentially the 'new radio' from Huawei that connects the handsets to the 4G core network.

Here is the UK government 5G strategy:

QUOTE:

The initial standards release in mid-2018 will cover an evolution of the 4G core network, which provides interconnection between all the base stations and control of the overall network and users. Further developments for the core network are expected to be based heavily on Software Defined Networks (SDN), where software controls elements of network function that were previously ‘baked into’ the hardware and could not be changed. SDN will allow core networks to be readily built on general purpose computing systems and use cloud computing. The recently developed Network Function Virtualisation (NFV) standards will be the implementation of SDN used as the starting point for new 5G core network standards. Greater use of SDN may lead to new combinations of manufacturers and providers in the market. Such standards work also has security implications. The Government will monitor developments in supplier markets and security issues, and respond as appropriate.

4g long term evolution and 5g do move apart fairly quickly, anyway I’m happy now riding my bike and taking pictures:)
