THE BREXIT Party has put former British Chambers of Commerce boss John Longworth in charge of drawing up a manifesto as it gears up to fight the next general election.

Mr Longworth said yesterday: “Nothing is decided yet but my personal view is that we need to have a country that has a dynamic economy with low business and personal taxation.”

Re Surgery - Advances in surgery such as keyhole surgery improved hospital bed turnover and thus costs. So with less hacking & slashing & greater use of local anaesthetics leads to quicker recovery time and discharge home. Also less time in hospital means less time to pick up hospital aquired infections (remember MRSA - it killed a lot of folk who had sucessful straightforward ops as it literally turned them to pus & mush!). Used to be after even minor surgery surgery requiring a general anaesthetic folk would at minimum need to stay in overnight for regular obs, begin eating and drinking and demonstrate bowels & bladder were working okay - Past few years with day surgery patients are back on ward, have a sarnie & cuppa, pack your bags get your meds and letters and home you go within a few hours. This has to be balanced against risk of post surgery complications such as internal beeding & infections best picked up and addressed ASAP.

Hospitals literally shrunk in terms of bed provision but there was also an expectation that these kind of surgical efficiency improvements would translate across all sorts of patients inc medical - Elderly in general need more time in hospital to recuperate.

What amazes me is how the press will dignify this blatant attempt to bribe a section of the Public that Boris believes to contain a majority of Conservatives that have defected to the BXP with the grandiose description "Radical Plan"
We can deduce from that that the words "Radical plan" mean "Dishonest Bribery"

Rory Stewart did a phone in on Radio 4 lunch time (first one ever for the Radio 4 lunch time programme). He was really good, head and shoulders above any other candidate in the leadership race. Too bad he has no chance of winning as his answers were clear, logical and believable. If tory MPs and their membership were really wanting what was good for the country and not just someone to trade insults with Farage then they would choose him.

Yes, agreed. Economising on anesthetic and letting us all watch and get involved, we could pass scalpels and hammers, is a great way of saving money. I bet Trump and JRM are all for it. NHS is ready for reform. Why not start with scrapping anesthetics after all all us tough bikers dont need them. Why should anyone else.

Indeed, I listened to it too. As nine of my posts show I've been backing him from before he was a prospect.

Unfortunately such a sensible and capable candidate could only be elected by a sensible majority, and that the Tory party's membership don't have. It's doubtful that even the country has.

If the Boris higher rate threshold of £60k comes about will it cause a flight of high earners from Scotland where the threshold is £41k?
At present the tax saved by moving to England isn't sufficient to justify a move but raise the threshold to £60k and it becomes viable.
I can't imagine the Scottish Government matching or exceeding Boris' proposed threshold as those earning £60k+ comprise a small tax base in Scotland.
