It's not that hard to make a case either way. The longer I am following this thread the more I see that.

But surely the fact that the UK is leaving proves there is no prison. It's only difficult to leave because we made it so by sheer foolishness, there were better ways to leave.

I made the case in this thread years ago. Observing how successful that Germany and some other EU members have been in exporting worldwide and having rich home economies while being subject to EU rules and trading agreements, I pointed out the obvious:

If we believed we could successfully make it outside, then first do as Germany has to prove we could be successful and then leave with certainty. But if we weren't able to make it in that way, stay in of course.

That's sensible, the way we are leaving by jumping into the unknown with preloaded very serious disadvantages is just plain silly.

the industry said "We need 11,392 permits." It's going to get 984. So there's a shortfall of 10,408 permits (91%). And if you think the firms were being over-cautious, think again - over 50,000 UK-registered trucks normally make journeys to the EU and back.

Actually this isn't going to happen as they will end up signing May's Brino deal, so we can all relax.
