Dont agree Flecc. It is a fair analogy. Its just you see it as impossible Tommie and others see the connection.
EU beung captors, Irish captives. Yes not a perfect analogy but they rarely are.
He used the analogy to make his point. Just because you disagree with his point does not make the analogy defunct.
The more I think about it, the more apt the analogy becomes. Think it sums up the situation, even with UK, quite well.
Perhaps the syndrome has got to you, you just dont know it,hopefully yet.
That is utterly ridiculous.

In your opinion.
Yep, they have really got you...
It might be ridiculous you are suffering from the sydrome, perhaps not, but its actually an excellent analogy.
In words of Oscar Wilde, I wish I, d said that.
"You will my friend, you will".

If I were you flecc I, d go and get tested to see if they can confirm your diagnosis and wether there is a cure.

I notice two have hit the disagree, proving the syndrome does not just strike in isolation.
Flecc and Electrifly are showing symptoms.

No it's not in any way a good analogy, not even remotely.

Ireland's liking for the EU is in no way connected with being a prisoner. Like my own preference which I've spelt out to you, there will be many reasons. I can go and live anywhere, just like the Irish who are famous for their worldwide existence, so no imprisonment in any way.

As I've posted, not a single condition of the Stockholm Syndrome is satisfied in relation to the RoI and the EU. You might just as well argue that my liking for my new car or a particular food are Stockholm Syndromes. Liking alone does not qualify.

I repeat, utterly ridiculous.

Not so much ridiculous as evidence of Zlatan being a captive (perhaps of a thick closet racist with serious passive aggressive issues he has over identified with for many years)? It would explain a great deal to me. Come to think of it, fingers may be in the same predicament. I feel their pain.

Ireland
Not picky, since he applied it to the RoI which is impossible.

No matter how one defines the Stockholm Syndrome, the two essential elements are that the captive(s) must only have physical contact with the captor(s) over time to create the bond in isolation.

Clearly the people of the RoI have free access to some 6 millions in the whole of Ireland but no physical contact with the EU commissioners and the EU is not a person who can be bonded with. So no conditions met.

The use of the Stockholm Syndrome in connection with the RoI and the EU as Fingers and Tommie have is nonsensical.
.
We I dont know how much physical contact, but we do have plenty of social contacts with the Commission, the Commissioners, the Parliament andthe key players.
Tommie etc.. give over on this nonsense meme.

I knew what I was voting for. Out of the single market and customs union - out from under the ECJ and no more free movement we get to say who can come live here.

Was pretty clear to me.
Really? how come then the leave campaign promised to stay in both?
So you voted for something that wasn't on offer?
And we already had the say on who comes here and never used it, and it's extremely unilikely we will even be able to convince the people we actually need to come at all now!
How come it was clear to you when you weren't being offered any of that?
Brexit leave vote equals wishful thinking obviously

Oh yeah - VAT - there's another thing you can't control if you're in the EU.
What a joke! this is far less than purchase tax and the other taxes the UK Government used to apply to consumer goods ever was! come off it!
Don't you know any History at all?

How are things on your Brexit fantasy land today? how about something from you on topic rather than your usual soapbox pitch?
This silly diversionary argument of yours is a sure sign of one thing
You have given up supporting Brexit and resorted to babbling nonsense, in supported of the other so called leave supporters.
Who are apparently in the hope of getting a version of Brexit drawn directly from their own personal imaginations.
No chance of that is there?
Mrs May's deal will get signed, there simply isn't any other option because no one in the HOC has the guts to stop Brexit.
I can see your point in two important respects
Brexit has zero chance of being a success with either party running the country, and in any case will be Brino only to keep the wolf from the door.

Another victim to SS.
Notice JA has reverted to his OT language and attitude.
How nice.

The European Union
Hmmm. I was thinking more like setting tax rates - or having to listen to the ECJ - big things. Being able to set your own budget - you know like Italy right now is going to be fined for setting spending plans outside EU rules (even though France does the same thing).

Like with Ireland's corporation tax rate - that's not up to them really is it - the EU will make them change that. Thats the sort of control I was thinking about.

Or set your own interest rates. But so long as you're part of the Euro - then that's not up to you either is it?

There's a tonne of stuff you can't do. You can't make trade deals with other nations.
The Eurozone is not all of the EU. Eurozone has financial rules just like all other financial zones.

Oh yeah - VAT - there's another thing you can't control if you're in the EU.
That would explain the rates between 17% and 27% then...

Maybe this is the key difference between leavers and remainers.

Leavers see the EU as a prison - and remainers don't.

Maybe it's that simple.

Then leavers clearly haven't bothered to check the facts have they?
But that was obvious from day one

Sounds just like remainers to me..
And you were wrong about captive having to be held in isolation.
Who cares ?
You are like a child plugging away with a totally off topic and irrelevant display of your own personal hang ups, and you keep nagging away time after time to absolutely no purpose, making yourself look obsessed in the process.
Why the desperation to score points in such a futile fashion?
Zlatan, isn't it time you stopped trying to irritate people by involving them in pointless arguments and tried for once to post on topic?
