no, that's not correct. We need an extension which has to be agreed by all 27 member states of the EU27 but we can withdrawl A50 unilaterally at any time.

Imagine TM asks Juncker and Tusk to extend A50.
TM concedes a new GE in April.
GE in May.
JC does not win enough seats so he forms a coalition with the SNP and LibDems.
Guess what, the SNP and LibDems then ask JC to withdraw A50.

Impossible scenario?
Woosh are you sure!. My reading of the ECJ judgement allowed the UK to unilaterally repeal or extend upto thecutoff date.

.
You live in Crouch End, North London, surrounded by some hills, and commute to Oxford Street on a Gtech e-bike. You joined this forum on 9th February 2016 and made your first post on the 11th February. Ironically the first member to warmly welcome you to the forum was Old Tom, who also gave you some friendly e-biking advice.

Your wife has tried the bike in a local park but is nervous of traffic, having never passed a cycling proficiency test.
.

That was really nice @flecc

I appreciate you. And I appreciate many members on this site.

We never go too far despite our differences.

isn't there some problem with euro elections in May whereby if we extended then we would have to field candidates, and the likelihood is that a large amount od eurosceptics would be elected because of the mess that's been made of it. Maybe the eu would not be too keen on that possibility

the ECJ judgement is not depending on the length of time between triggering and ending.

It can’t have TM as leader. She did a deal guaranteeing not to lead them into the next election in exchange for not being kicked out of office.
except in an unforeseen situation.
who else would do better?

A 'Farage' is for life not just for Xmas... Gaze into those forlorn puppy eyes.

Nigel Farage 'looking for new party'

After the highs of galivanting with Trump this poor destitute party man needs our help after his benefits were cut. Send him your spare unused appreciating holiday Euros and cocktail umbrellas so he can enjoy the highlife again.
He needs another fixer, this time, it can't be A. Banks.

That would be no change, you elected them last time already. The EU is not keen on the present bunch you sent over.

Imagine if decent, sane, hard working politicians who believe in the EU were elected instead. Now that would be complicated...

I understand your point, but a large amount of the UK would feel that they had been ignored and may vote in anger for and may go that route

UKIP polled 27.5% in 2014.
I doubt that they would do as well as they did.
10%, 8 MEPs and not N. Farage (if A50 is delayed) would be my guess.

They've actually got some suitable younger talent on the back benches. The fact that they are unknown doesn't really matter, Blair was an unknown when he suddenly popped up, as was David Miliband who was warmly received by the public, who were then very disappointed when the unions chose his brother Ed instead. And of course Macron was a successful newcomer in France.

If the Tories have the courage to choose an unknown it could pay off better than any of the main contenders who many of the public are sick of and hostile to.

not many would want to take on the double edged sword that is brexit.
TM knows already that her stint is a short one.

Maybe, but the ambition of a young politician is a powerful force.
.
the conservatives are so divided that another conservative PM won't do better than TM.
There is nothing wrong with TM's withdrawal treaty if she agrees with JC for a future customs union. The problem is with the ERG. They want Canada+, that means the future FTA will have to keep the backstop.
