Really? Wouldn't that result in the opposite refraction to what we actually observe?
sorry, it was a mistake.
speed of light is slower in water, as you said, proven by the refraction index of water, 1.33.
I blame the old age.
I was watching some documentary about some nuclear generator a little earlier where one could see the blue light leaking out by Cherenkov radiation. That's the front wave of the electrons that travel faster than light in water. I don't know why I type 'speed of light in water' while the light that moves faster than light in water is the front wave that moves at the speed of the electrons which is faster than 0.75c and still less than c. I suppose it's just the power of TV suggestion.

They knew what they were told they were fighting for.

N.B. If you click to Edit your post, delete the wrong text and add the missing t to fighing, you'll find it will enable you to continue typing without the underline and italics. I've corrected the for in the quote above.
.

Well they knew they were fighting for their way of life as it was then.

They clearly felt that was something worth fighting for.

The saddest thing apart from the deaths and injuries was the indifference and hostility felt by the returning soldiers by their own folk.

Worse that that, it is based purely on wishful thinking, when you look at how incompetent our Government and opposition actually are.
Sit down and pour yourself a drink Oldgroaner: I agree with you.

Here's the thing though - do we get to have better government by giving powers away to government situated in Brussels - or do we get to have better government by keeping things close?

I know what you think. You think things will improve by giving those powers away.

I don't. I think bring that power back closer to us - force those who govern us to be more democratic - at a local level. Closer government - more control. That's my sense of how things need to change.

But for sure I am with you on this lot being incompetent.

Brexit done well should create a whole new political system.

Yeah - dream on huh? Well yes. That's the dream.

Or they didn’t want to be ruled by the Bosch.

Check out that documentary by Peter Jackson ‘They shall never grow old’ technical achievements aside. And it’s a big aside, listening to the words of the Tommies and I think they knew what they were fighing For.

Not sure why my font has gone like this? It’s not on purpose.

The doc is on I player. Well worth a look.
I didn’t intend to downplay or undermine the effort and sacrifice made and you could well be right that they understood what was at stake. I just thought it incredibly that so many from a tiny isolated village were killed. That made me wonder where they got their motivation from, who fed them the battle cry, who they had to seek an alternative viewpoint from to form a balanced opinion. Probably no one. They would be totally reliant on an establishment intent on war.

Ultimately the entire situation comes down to a very small number of aggressive people creating a conflict fought by millions of peaceful people (like the men from the village I mentioned), most of who, on both sides, would rather be at home With their families. The average German sat in a trench being shelled wouldn’t be bothered about world domination. It’s the aggressors sat safely 30 miles behind the front line who are the war mongers. I find it incredible that so many people can be lured into doing other people’s fighting for them. And I am sorry to say that it does come down to the power of propaganda.

yes, in some areas.
We pool sovereignty in the area of the functioning of the single market. This is because the benefit of a larger single market is very considerable. We can negotiate better deals and cut production cost leading to higher purchasing power to all 500 million EU citizens compared to what we can do with 60 million citizens.

From the horse's mouth so to speak - People / leave voters subjectively unhappy with National Government and EU's handling of Immigration (lots of coverage of Med and French migrant camps leading up to referendum, economic crash (again dissatisfaction of Govt / politics, big business / banking in general) hence slogans like 'Take Back Control' and a chance for public in referendum to stick one up against establishment in a protest vote esp as Cameron as PM was all for Remain)

Third against EU, third for EU and another third ambivalent and who were swayed by the leave campaign.

Interesting, especially how unashamedly his organisation data mined huge numbers of Facebook accounts to apply pressure where their modelling showed people were liable to be vulnerable.
An admission of guilt if ever there was one.

It's curious, the trolling does have a monotonous repetitive quality that suggests it may be paid for. wouldn't have thought an ebike site would attract this,
well it attracted you - someone who made a bee-line for the Brexit thread, has little or no interest in ebikes - and why didn`t you even start by posting in the Introduce Yourself section?? !!

So how much are you getting paid ??!!

Westminster still holds the right to make laws in this country, we only share a portion of our control.
To imagine that the bunch of idiots in Westminster can run the UK internal SM post brexit better than the EU wide SM is risky.
No point in banging on about the bunch of idiots in Westminster when it could be said a far worse bunch of idiots put them there in the first place!
At least they had the motivation to get up off the sofa and put themselves forward - something that`s available to all.

at least those idiots can be removed by the British people unlike the ones in Brussels. In all this I fail to understand why anyone would want to allow our country to be run by a foreign power. I have nothing against being friends and trading partners, but am opposed to being controlled by them
The ignorance displayed in this post is amazing.
the EU is a democratic institution in many ways more so than our own parliament, and they do NOT "Run" this country in any way shape or form.
As to having the country run by foreigners, how do you think the Scots and Welsh feel about the English parliament??
All laws and regulations coming out of the EU are made in co-operation with our Government.
As you rightly say you do indeed fail abysmally to understand the true situation.
They do not control us at the moment, but after Brexit it is likely that they will, perhaps you should think about that?
From now on we become Rule Takers not Rule Makers.

Zlatan just demonstrated just how low the quality some of the Trolls we get on here have fallen, he will not be missed, as he never once made a convincing post that put Brexit in a favourable light
But I am surprised he would sink as low as he did, to edit other people's posts is despicable., a betrayal of trust.
