That was in olden days with smaller & more easily managed populations. Society is much more sophisticated today. The EU’s course in present times is dangerous.

I am of the opinion the the UK should remain in the EU, clearly no one is capable of getting us out. At least if we are on the inside, we can hinder, frustrate and veto the unwise aspirations.

unfortunately when we both went to big school...(EU Parliament) , the big brother played the lout, smoked fags behind the bike shed (come out Farage we know you are in there!) ,while the little brother diligently did his homework.

The talk on local radio here, is that the terms of a future trading arrangement of EU/UK will be so fraught with local issues, that the British will look back with nostalgia at the simplicity of the withdrawal agreement, where they had only one group to negociate with. I did suggest perhaps a 1000 posts back, that any country with any axe to grind with the UK (and there are many ) would be revising them... . Perhaps the Danes will want compensation for the totally illegal attack on their city by the Royal Navy in the French war of 1810..., Or the French seeking the recovery of a few Islands they call the Ils Normand , which are certainly not in the English channel, or as now appears, the Spanish with Gib.
Many of these are grandstanding,and will not be resolved but they are wearing .

Or the Chinese for the East India Company ,who made the Chinese opium addicts just so we had something to barter against the finest silks and the best tea.
When the Chinese tipped the opium into Canton (now Guangzhou) harbour we sent in ships to kill them and starved Canton!!!!

Former Brexit secretary Dominic Raab said what was on offer in the political declaration was inferior to EU membership, as it would leave the UK bound by the same rules but without control over them.

He told Radio 4's Today the current proposal would be "debilitating" for the UK economy and its ability to negotiate independent trade deals would virtually disappear.

Surprised that Dominic Raab has said that Remain is better than May's deal,that sort of undermines NO DEAL.
Am I right that amendments can now be put on the withdrawal agreement,if that is the case I can see Keir Stamer putting an amendment on May's Withdrawal Bill,that in the event of NO DEAL we should have a second referendum....I think such an amendment would pass in parliament.
I am sure Bercow said that amendments would be allowed.

if a referendum is called, TM said it would be between her deal and no deal because her government is committed to deliver brexit.
If TM loses the (conservative party's) confidence vote, she can't be a candidate for the leadership, the UK will have a hard brexiter PM.
The problem is, TM lied but her opponents (those who resigned from her cabinet and JC) also lied.
TBH, I think she lies a little less than any of them and none of them would get a better deal.

True, but I think the EU would be happy to allow time for a second referendum. Especially given that indications are that the outcome would be likely to be favourable to them, regardless of the options pattern of the ballot.

There is increasing talk about a second referendum,Peter Hain said on All Out Politics that another referendum was now more likely than 2 months ago.
May is also talking about NO BREXIT,how would that be achieved other than a second vote.
May is also emboldened to take the grief from the ERG ,they dont have the muscle to be rid of her.
