I actually felt sorry for us and for her, as I was watching her delivery. When the letters fell off the board, I shook my head, could it be any worse?
The day before, on newsnight, Matthew Parris compared the tory party conference to a dead frog, being subjected to electrocution experiments by the three brexiteers' speeches.
May be it's time to call for a second referendum.
JC, the one from the Bible, was grassed up by one of his own band of disciples, leading to his demise. Another JC, the one who ruled in Rome a few years before the Biblical one made the limelight, was stabbed in the back by those supposedly close to him.
Now, the current JC who has grasped the attention of much of the public has been playing things very cool (smart move!) has overcome his would-be political assassins, at least for the time being, is probably ok for a bit as I think one, Theresa May, is the most likely to be stabbed in the back by those supposedly close to her politically.
The half-hearted, but obligatory, standing ovation May received in Manchester can be disregarded. The warning signs for her are all around and while the Roman JC was warned to 'Beware the Ides of March!'......well, according to Shakespeare at least.....I don't think Mrs May need make any plans for a change of decor with the Spring clean at No.10 next March as I think she will be history by then.
The tory conference is a celebration for all those who would like to take the UK back to the glory days of empire when scenes like those contained in the accompanying infographic were the norm

So there are two Ides of March to beware of. Theresa May's March 2018 and all of our departures from the EU March 2019.
Maybe we'll end up doing what the Russians did after leaving the USSR, turn back to the church and start praying for salvation.

Just in case anyone might have thought that the £1billion+ that fell out of the money tree, sorry, there is no money tree - I must have just made that up - was in any way a bribe or sweetener to ensure the DUP would support a continuing term of office with a majority for the tory party, then you'd be quite wrong.
Jon Snow tackled the PM on that very issue and the PM made it abundantly clear that the 1% pay cap for useful people in the public sector was not related in any way to the funds directed to NI. Indeed, Mrs May stressed that they had written to the pay review bodies suggesting there needs to be greater flexibility for public sector pay awards.
I have to confess I got a bit confused at that point in the PM's explanation of where the money came from which was unavailable to the public sector so everything I have written here might be complete ballcocks - I did get very mixed up!
Strength of character and great oratory flexibility are essential elements in the personal armoury of anyone seeking high office in the public domain. It really is a shame that Theresa May has neither. I believe she is an embarrassment to the country, that notion strengthened by her decision not to sack Boris Johnson from the front bench. I believe she will pay for her lack of credibility and decisiveness in the not too distant future. She would have been replaced by now, I have no doubt, but for the fact that the PCP cannot find anyone in their number with the requisite qualities for the job.
