That's because if you remember... it was promised that A50 would be triggered immediately. That didn't happen, and things do take a while to play out. Only someone with their head in the sand would say that because it didn't happen immediately, we're all going to be ok.
Well let's wait and see huh? It may all turn out better than you think.

what loss? has anyone lost their job or got poorer?
I dont know...I suspect that a lot of companies are waiting to see what happens to Brexit,to a point where the outcome is inevitable, either way.
I did think that the money or Ireland were the
At the moment, we hand over 80% of thee duty we collect from importers to the EU. If we make mistakes (like with Chinese bags), the EU can fine us for their missing earnings.
the attraction of not remaining is we get to keep the duty, the rate will probably remain at 6% for e-bikes and we don't get fined for making mistakes.
The EU is currently fining HMRC for undervalueing import duty mainly on textiles and jeans, the fine is euro 2 billion. HMRC is useless at valueing imported goods.

We shall see. I doubt very much any of the German car manf want to have a 6% loading on their cars. And if they do? We can buy stuff some elsewhere - like Japan - like S. Korea.

Same with French wine - personally I think Chilean is as nice. And like I said - we already had a currency drop of 10% - so we're 4% up anyway.
10% on cars under WTO....who knows what under the fantasy EU-UK trade deal....I know that they are not going to let us hurt the German car industry...I havent bought a car that wasnt German for 20 years, they make the best cars in the world.

it may do... but as I keep saying.... you're giving me nothing to think it will do.... and all the experts and people I trust understand these things don't seem very positive.

I don't think you realise how bad it could be...

Well listen to some other 'experts' - not the ones that pre-referendum said disaster was going to happen - or who now say it is going to happen. Like don't read the independent for a start - they are one of the worst for doom and gloom when it comes to Brexit. Read something else. Get some other opinions not just the ones who go on (and on) about how bad it is going to be. We don't even know the deal yet.

The German car industry doesn't need any help getting hurt, they are doing it all by themselves.

My first car was German ('55 beetle) since then I have only had Italian, Japanese and French. I think Citroen make the best cars but then I like odd and eccentricity in my cars... Toyota also give the Germans a run for their money.

we buy 45 billion euros worth of cars from the EU last year. If you take 10% duty (4.5 billion euros a year) and give it to the NHS, you would roll back the years of tory austerity.

Funny this thread started with Brexit - the facts - or something like that. At the time the 'facts' were that if we voted leave - as soon as we voted leave there would be an emergency budget - the IMF said the economy would tank - Obama said his piece - Cameron threatened WW3 - the CBI did their bit - 'experts' on the TV every night saying how crazy it would be - fear and doom all around.

Now here we are a year later - the sky has not fallen in - and yet we're being told bla bla bla bla bla and its all going to be a disaster.

And you wonder why we don't believe you.
And all promises made by leave were lies, the future is uncertain, the Government doesn't know what to do, things are in fact going downhill, yet you refuse to notice.

Your knowledge of the EU is clearly not impressive, and your understanding of what the Government is capable of or even intending to do is even less comprehensive, which is pretty much the same as theirs
"Clueless" is too flattering a description

We haven't left yet, which we were supposed to do immediately, yet even now the writing is on the wall and you stick to the same unchanging vague hope of something turning up

And you wonder why we don't believe you.
I'll tell you why not. You cannot offer anything other than a Hope for the Best, and a diet of lies and distortion from Government and press to pump up that Brexit Balloon that is full of Holes.

And it still seems beyond the Brexit Voters to see reality, but never mind it's coming and frankly the sooner the better.

The outcome will always be positive for the well-off whatever you do.

It won't work well for people who have one of those fabulous jobs that won't pay the rent and food (choose one from the list) that are helping to keep your employment rate so low. I am employed yet I figure in the French statistics as type E job seeker because I have a season contract.

you should take unemployment statistics - the trend is down, not up.
Companies give all sort of reasons, they balance out and encapsulated in the overall statistics, a much more reliable indicator than examples.
.. credit where credit is due... The employment numbers are boyant.. but the manpower statistics have not yet noted the cost of living increases which the drop in sterling has and will impact. The UK is enjoying the surge in exports due to stock purchased at a better exchange rate, and now being sold at lower rates, when the stocks run down and imports are required, the picture will change.

I am appalled by the predictions of the protagonists. They are really a lot of hot air. Brexit has not happened and nobody really knows how it will shape up until the first sign of convergence at the negotiation, not before October in any case. Its impact so far is around 2% drop in purchasing power.

Those not old enough to have witnessed WW2 or Korea or Vietnam; those never conscripted, those who know nothing about the Suez crisis, the Mau Mau uprising or the partition of Palestine, you have no idea what you are doing if you give support and succour to liars, fascists and racists posing as right-wing politicians, promising to restore greatness to the UK.

Just remember that your current government and every tory government in history are warmongers and that same current government has nailed its colours to the US President's mast, assuring him and the American people of our unwavering support of American foreign policy.

Trump, like Farage & Co in the UK, has raised the profile of neo-Nazism in the USA while using language towards N Korea which places the world very, very close to a major war.

We are witnessing racism in the USA not seen at such a level in three decades. Trump is directly responsible for this. In the UK, racism was the major factor in the referendum result in the UK and Farage, idolised by the far-right extremist groups, was responsible for bringing the spectre of Nazi symbolism on to our streets.

Those I referred to at the outset really need to study history as history has frequently repeated itself and Britain and the world are perilously close to a major conflict right now. I'm too old to be called up for military service but those young enough may find that suddenly, their world has changed and they may not like the brave new world if they survive conflict.

That is the most damning statement you have made so far.
One has to ask this question.

Who in their right mind would hazard the future of the nation on such a shot in the Dark?
Lets examine the situation
  1. We have no guarantee of anything good or bad from Brexit
  2. We have no control over the outcome of events
  3. Our Government proved it's incompetence by offering the Brexit Referendum
  4. The government doesn't know what it wants, or understand the consequences of what it thinks it wants at this moment in time.
  5. The only industry of consequence in this country is Foreign owned and we have no control if it decides to jump ship
  6. There is no guarantee that London will continue to be a nice little earner
  7. The Brexit Voters are Definitely going to have to accept in the short term whatever the EU wants to give them
  8. We all face being oppressed by our own Government in the mid to long term and reduced circumstances.
The prognosis is for Social Distress leading to trouble.

Our situation internationally means we are ripe for being taken to the cleaners in any trade deal.
in the immortal words of Les Dawson
"Tough area? don't make me laugh, where I come from you have to put your name down to be Mugged."

With Brexit, that is exactly what we are doing.

those who feel let down and desperate for change.
Those who are unconcerned with politics.
