You asked a question.... so I gave you examples. people have lost their jobs and we're all poorer.you should take unemployment statistics and RPI as guides, not pick and choose examples.

how? if you have to compete against a local manufacturer then I get it but as you said, you've got exclusives on most of what you sell, the duty matters not.I agree with all you say,for my business the removal of these tariffs would be wonderful
roughly 2% on regular consumption. It's not a big problem. Remainers should avoid anything to do with making gloomy economic predictions because you and I don't yet know what brexit is other than A50.You asked a question.... so I gave you examples. people have lost their jobs and we're all poorer.
"what loss? has anyone lost their job or got poorer?
Freedom from what? are you serious? any legislation passed in future will favour the state and businesses over yours every time.Freedom Tom. Freedom. And not in ten years. Its already happening. I can feel it in my bones.
you should take unemployment statistics - the trend is down, not up."
Nestlé set to cut 300 UK jobs and move production of Blue Riband bars to Poland
GMB and Unite unions slammed the company for the move
Nestlé announced proposals to move production of the iconic Blue Riband chocolate bar from the UK to Poland resulting in around 300 job losses, following increasing import costs and uncertainty over how the Government will handle Brexit.
How many more examples would you like?
"
Drinks giant Diageo has been criticised for moving its vodka production out of Scotland because of Brexit.
The company, which manufactures Smirnoff and Circo vodka, is reportedly shifting its production to Italy and US, which will lead to the loss of 105 roles at its plants in Fife and Glasgow."
It is happening.
Is that OG's real name 'OxygenJames'?.......or have you got yourself so mixed up to the extent that you can't be sure whose posts you are arguing against?Freedom Tom. Freedom. And not in ten years. Its already happening. I can feel it in my bones.
I'm sorry but the Employment statistics we are given by the ONS present a picture distorted by the fact that many jobs are either temporary, insecure, Zero Hours or not worth having. they do however also admit thisyou should take unemployment statistics - the trend is down, not up.
Companies give all sort of reasons, they balance out and encapsulated in the overall statistics, a much more reliable indicator than examples.
the number of jobseekers reflect the level of support for brexit.I'm sorry but the Employment statistics we are given by the ONS present a picture distorted by the fact that many jobs are either temporary, insecure, Zero Hours or not worth having. they do however also admit this
"Latest estimates show that average weekly earnings for employees in Great Britain in real terms (that is, adjusted for price inflation) fell by 0.7% including bonuses, and fell by 0.5% excluding bonuses, compared with a year earlier."
The trend in value of actually having work falls all the time as cost of living continues to rise.
Consequently the Tax return from people in work will also reduce, making the the economic situation even worse.
Pay them less= less income tax, and less spending= less VAT return
Result downward spiral
Sorry, not buying false optimism on the issue
But it's pity the employment statistics aren't in actual hours employed.you should take unemployment statistics - the trend is down, not up.

The duty from China into the UK,you pay the same on your imported e-bikes...I assume this duty will be deleted once we leave the EU...that is unless Theresa May decides to retain it.how? if you have to compete against a local manufacturer then I get it but as you said, you've got exclusives on most of what you sell, the duty matters not.
Don't forget, 80% of current duty collected from outside the EU are remitted to the EU. UK only gets to keep 20%.
After brexit, we get to keep duty on imported goods from the EU, that should make up the cheque for the NHS.
At the moment, we hand over 80% of thee duty we collect from importers to the EU. If we make mistakes (like with Chinese bags), the EU can fine us for their missing earnings. The duty from China into the UK,you pay the same on your imported e-bikes...I assume this duty will be deleted once we leave the EU...that is unless Theresa May decides to retain it.
The highest duty rate I pay is 22% on alloy road wheels, most averages about 4%,its not a lot,but nice to be rid of it.
If we were on WTO duties or agreed EU-UK duties then products which I have a monopoly on would not be affected, these are only 2.9% mostly...the big problem would be products that could be bought off local suppliers that my customers currently find me attractive.
As you say Hammond may find it attractive to collect the duty on all EU imports,a stealth tax which will mainly affect cars/luxury goods.
Thats why I say that I dont think I will be badly affected by Brexit, but if the country suffers we all suffer, hence my concern.
KudosDave
We shall see. I doubt very much any of the German car manf want to have a 6% loading on their cars. And if they do? We can buy stuff some elsewhere - like Japan - like S. Korea. How free would you feel if we have to pay EU tariffs on all imports from the EU and the EU would put the same tariffs from UK to EU? Only 6% on e-bikes but some big numbers on some products.
There is no way the EU are going to give us a free trade deal, when we leave we will be just like any other country.
That is very expensive freedom, massive job losses in the UK.
KudosDave
If you say so Tom.Is that OG's real name 'OxygenJames'?.......or have you got yourself so mixed up to the extent that you can't be sure whose posts you are arguing against?
I would say you have completely lost the plot except I don't think you ever had the plot! Most of your venom against foreigners, the EU, the Civil Service, (for god's sake!) I'll guess has been drawn from your reading of the mainstream tabloid press......probably the ones controlled by Murdoch.
All you seem to have as an argument is total ignorance of what the EU is about, how it is managed and some weird notion that civil servants need to be reined in, if I understand your ramblings correctly. All that, punctuated by a hatred of foreigners, certainly tells me that you are nowhere near the top of anyone's shortlist for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Tom
So negative! For a trade dealer - so so negative. And no we're not ALL poorer. There will be winners and losers. Right now with your attitude I'd say you're going to be one of the latter. You asked a question.... so I gave you examples. people have lost their jobs and we're all poorer.
So ignorant.... you might not realise it, but you are poorer. unless of course you don't buy anything, or haven't realised you're getting less for the money you're paying. So negative! For a trade dealer - so so negative. And no we're not ALL poorer. There will be winners and losers. Right now with your attitude I'd say you're going to be one of the latter.
That's because if you remember... it was promised that A50 would be triggered immediately. That didn't happen, and things do take a while to play out. Only someone with their head in the sand would say that because it didn't happen immediately, we're all going to be ok.Funny this thread started with Brexit - the facts - or something like that. At the time the 'facts' were that if we voted leave - as soon as we voted leave there would be an emergency budget - the IMF said the economy would tank - Obama said his piece - Cameron threatened WW3 - the CBI did their bit - 'experts' on the TV every night saying how crazy it would be - fear and doom all around.
Now here we are a year later - the sky has not fallen in - and yet we're being told bla bla bla bla bla and its all going to be a disaster.
And you wonder why we don't believe you.
Sorry Old groaner - I just now realised I got you and Tom mixed up. You are an old moaner its true (obviously and you admit as much) - but darn that guy Tom is Mr unhappy-miserable-caustic-darknes itself. Apologies if I was a bit harsh with you.I'm sorry but the Employment statistics we are given by the ONS present a picture distorted by the fact that many jobs are either temporary, insecure, Zero Hours or not worth having. they do however also admit this
