Great day for the Brexit voters... let the fun begin... and division within the country grow worse and worse with every passing day, as of course May will try to keep what she is negotiating secret from the people, and who is to say they will be pleased with what she does?
How ingenious, allowing a woman with such an anti social attitude to hold our future in her hands.
And have no means of stopping or deflecting whatever she does for good or ill?
And afterwards to be left at the mercy of the Tory party in Government and rely on their goodwill to the public?
And still even at this late stage no one can give a good reason to indicate this will not be a disastrous move, can they?
Or for that matter how we can recover after it all derails?

RM magnetic nuclear resonance or microwave or a shining torch, it doesn't matter much. The principle of transmission is the same for all of them, you convert the energy at the source to a beam that traverses space with little loss then convert the beam back to energy. The problem is our body interacts with the beam (either magnetic or electro-magnetic, magnetic flux is converted to electric inside our body) so the beam has to be confined or our body protected.
Actually that is incorrect there is no BEAM in Magnetic Resonance just Magnetic FIELDS emanating from Poles and following the usual magnetic paths between poles, and these are tuned to particular frequencies to resonate with the poles of the receiver, which is placed within the envelope of the transmitters magnetic fields for the process of energy transfer.

One might ask the question; If this system is installed in a shielded position under the car and the road surface below and only activated when the system detects the car is immediately located over it and is otherwise inert.
What the heck is your body doing in the gap between the car and transmitter in the floor when this process is happening?

OG, it is a general principle that unless you collimate the beam, the power density decreases by the distance power 3, you double the distance, you need 8 times more power at the transmitter.
Magnetic resonance as in MRI scanner, more correctly called nuclear magnetic resonance, is the excitation of the magnetic moment of atoms that have an odd number of neutrons+protons. You have to supply hundreds times more magnetic energy to the atoms to excite them in the first place. Just look at the size of the magnet coils in the MRI scanners. Most of the magnetic energy is lost the the space between the atoms. The magnetic resonance energy is produced by the atoms when the excitation decays and the atoms return to their quiet state. In MRI scanners, this energy is captured and measured to produce images. You can capture this type of stimulated energy like in lasers but there is no efficient way to power a car by the stimulated energy from the excited atoms.

It would appear then that the MIT breakthrough is fiction, and the car makers working on prototypes of these systems are mistaken?
This system does not work on the principles you describe.

No, I did not say that. Scientists make progress all the time. Some marketing executives label this one a breakthrough because it suits them. This method is the same as microwave cooking. Take the word field for example. Everything in the universe is composed of zillions of interacting fields. It's just a description.

Yes, but if the lightning current also travels through the tyres integral coils, the output will fry everything instantly, controller, motor, any battery and charger in circuit.

I think the problem is more effectively than inefficiency, the coupling between the coils at large separations is poor
That is what I meant, inefficiency of transfer, just a different choice of words.

And these are the crucial words "are working on". I'm still waiting on developments from a decade and more ago that were once described in this way.

The fact is that as we get more advanced and research more exotic, the proportion of failed avenues of research grows. It's why modern drugs are so expensive, the few successful ones have to cover the huge costs of all the failed research avenues.

It's no different in our field as all the abortive anouncements on battery advances shows, and car makers try all sorts of possibilities in the hope of breakthoughs.

It seems progress has left your information behind; as it is hard to test a "Theoretical Prototype"
But relatively easy if you actually have one handy! :cool:
