But she represents a constituency that voted remain, so she'd be putting her own head on the block... which would be a big risk.
Colin....I think you mis read my post, there are 16 million Remain voters (maybe more now) who could possibly vote Liberal as an anti-Brexit vote....there are also many Leave voters who could vote UKIP that could split the vote.
Her own seat at Maidenhead is not a million miles from Richmond Park,it could have a high Liberal Remain vote, hehe!!!!
If she is hoping to increase her majority to overcome the current problems with such a low majority, she may be in for a shock.
One recent poll that really made me angry is that 50% of Leave voters said that they are not expecting Brexit to cost them any money....these are the same guys who said that they knew what they were voting for!!!!

Brexit Britain’s drive for a new World Trade Organisationsettlement could be blocked by countries with which the UK has territorial disputes such as Argentina or Spain, experts warned today.

The UK will need unanimous agreement from all the WTO’s 160-odd members for its new “schedule” to set baselines for future trade deals.

It has always been said that if we fail to achieve a good trade deal with the EU then we can always fall back on WTO rules, but even that looks problematic.
Still,no worries,we have our 'top man' on the job, namely Liam Fox.
Just another little problem for Theresa 'control freak' May.
Looks like we will still be able to trade with the Isle of Wight !!!!

There is a plan by the EU to offer Brits who want to have free movement in the EU,allowing them EU citizenship status.

Their proposal could potentially give Brits who live and work across borders, a workaround to the disruption caused by the Leave vote and also allow young people looking to live abroad greater choice over where to move.

The plan was first proposed by Luxembourg MEP Charles Goerens for inclusion in the European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs report on long-term changes to the bloc’s structure.

However, Mr Verhofstadt explained it would now be taken forward independently after it had "captured the imagination and hopes of many of the 48 per cent of Brits that have voted to remain in the EU".

Does this mean that any EU citizens who also have EU citizenship status could freely come to the UK?
Sounds like free movement of people to me?????

Even that's far from certain since they are very upset with mainland Britain since this comment:

Ofsted’s chairman, David Hoare, has described the Isle of Wight, one of England’s most educationally underperforming areas, as a poor white "ghetto" that suffers from "inbreeding".

They may want independence now and staying in the EU.

The Daily Express is having a "Bad Hair Day" as it forecast that when the Italian Prime Minister was defeated in the Referendum, Italy would be "leading the Charge to leave the disintegrating EU.
It was all so cozy, cut and drawn.
But today, oh Dear
"
European bid to STOP Brexit: Italy PM shamelessly admits delight at UK exit not happening
THE MAN charged with succeeding Matteo Renzi as Italian Prime Minister has previously suggested Britain may not leave the EU despite the Brexit vote.
The only puzzling part of that is what and where did the notion of a Bid to stop Brexit come from?
He said he was pleased, so that amounts to some sort of underhand plot?
Even for the Express that is so stupid one can only assume they believe their readers to be easily duped.
Amazingly from the readers comments they understand their audience!

In fairness, many have a certain look about them. I don't mean to be unkind but this was pointed out to me by someone on the island.

Many countries have this of course, possibly for the same reason and a few villages in these parts.

If the census results here are correct

" the 2011 census the population of Isle of Wight was 138,265 and is made up ofapproximately 51% females and 49% males. The average age of people in Isle of Wight is 44, while the median age is higher at 46. 92.2% of people living in Isle of Wight were born in England.

Inbreeding won't be a mass problem much longer unless there are giant strides in Fertility treatment for those of advancing age!

Better not let the Express get hold of this information or it will lead on the Front Page with

92.2% of the Isle of Wight Indigenous population have been driven into the sea by Immigrants!
Only 7.8% live in the Shadow and under the thumb of the Invaders!
Ofsted’s chairman, David Hoare, has described the Isle of Wight, one of England’s most educationally underperforming areas, as a poor white "ghetto" that suffers from "inbreeding".
This is where Free movement of people gets you!
And Lord Nigel will stand in front of a Poster with them all on it!

Careful, we do have a number of Isle of Wight members. The fact they e-bike demonstrates they are above UK average in many ways.

So what do we think of this idea....

European citizens living in Britain after Brexit should remain under the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice, according to remarkable proposals tabled by senior European Commission negotiators, the Telegraph has learned.

The radical idea - which is certain to be rejected by Britain - was set out at a meeting between Michel Barnier, the chief European Commission negotiator and officials from the 27 other EU member states, according to an EU diplomat familiar with the discussions.

"The European Commission legal service was of the view that a political declaration on the rights of EU citizens in the UK would not be enough and that EU law must be available to EU citizens after Brexit, under the jurisdiction of the ECJ," said the source.

Does that mean that if we take up the offer of EU citizenship we will still be under EU law and the ECJ,now the offer of EU citizenship starts to make sense.

The way this is going we wont talk about Brexit,we will have closer integration...do we call it Bremain....perhaps we will have the EU stars melded into the Union Jack????

I would certainly prefer to remain an EU citizen, retaining every piece of pan-European legislation I currently enjoy. It would be reassuring also to have recourse to the ECJ if I am denied rights and entitlements by the government of my place of domicile which remain extant for all other EU citizens.

I was once told a story by an old IOW resident that their nickname, 'Caulkheads', derived from the skilled work on wooden-hulled sailing craft. He further explained that when Queen Victoria decided to set up her delightful little holiday cottage known as Osborne House, she was very concerned that there seemed to be a large number of somewhat retarded residents among the local population. Many visitors from the mainland thought the term 'caulkhead' was somehow related to the work of boat repairers and the materials and substances used, causing them to lose brain function, much like hatmakers - mad as a hatter!

Such was the Queen's concern that she sought various professional opinion and the consensus was that there had been far too much inbreeding of the island's population and some new bloodlines needed to be introduced to improve matters. To that end, Victoria installed a battalion of soldiers on the island, partly for her protection but more precisely, to impregnate as many local women as possible and create an improved strain of island people.

Certainly, although there was a regiment comprised mainly of local men in the mid-nineteenth century, as a result of Victoria's plan, thousands of troops from the mainland spent some lengthy tours of duty on the island. There is quite a bit of military history on the IOW, going back to Napoleonic times and before and I don't know the veracity of what I heard, but I have known other islanders who enjoy telling old stories in a similar vein and jokingly refer to some of their neighbours as 'caulkheads' or 'corkheads'.

Interestingly in the papers today there was far less coverage in the Sun and Daily Mail, though the Express was "business as usual"
What coverage there was was like this
"
Brexit could take MORE than two years to deliver: Chancellor Philip Hammond widens Cabinet split by warning we WILL need a transitional deal with the EU as he takes a swipe at David Davis
  • Hammond takes swipe at Brexit colleagues by saying 'thoughtful politicians' want a transitional deal with the EU
  • Interim deal is needed to put 'significant infrastructure' in place to deal with adjustment of Brexit
  • Predicts Britain will be faced with a five-fold increase in border checks on goods
  • Says 'large numbers of people' will be needed to hire and train new border staff
  • Tells MPs transitional deal will be discussed 'early on in negotiations' with the EU
What is different is the tone it was presented in, far less forceful, almost passive even, but way out of touch with the reader comments, who are beginning to see Brexit isn't Brexit after all
More of a gentle lets water the whole thing bit by bit, and give the public time to reach the point that they have forgotten about it and lost interest, by finding something else to divert their attention.

The Paucity of Coverage rather suggests the papers are either coming round to that approach or have been encouraged to comply with it.
Possibly the recent You Gov Poll indicating more than 50% of leavers don't want to lose money is encouraging this view?

Joking aside, I will probably buy some for my young grand children.
Could be collectables in the future.
Mind, I still have the Common Market leaflet put out by the government years ago. No money there...yet, nor for my petrol coupons.
