Read my post again! I've told you that taxes are not hypothecated, no one pays for road usage. Since drivers don't pay for the roads, nor pedetrians for crossings, why should cyclists?

I don't know where you got the idea that I expect cycle lanes. The reality is that it's the governments, national and local, who want to promote cycling to get themselves off the hook of roads congestion and pollution, so they have been the promoters of cycle lanes and cycling budgets.

What on earth has this to do with cycleway budgets? The other posters are right, you seem unable to keep to a subject and you seem to be anti-everything.

In fact London's cycling death rates are the lowest in the UK. Pro-rata with elsewhere we'd need 14 deaths per annum to be equal. In the last full year (2015) we had 9 deaths, and in the current year nearly at an end, it's 6 deaths.

It's the rest of the country that needs to improve to get anywhere near us.
.
How much have you paid towards a cycle lane then Flecc ??
Or insurance ? Nothing.
Please tell me another road user who doesn't pay road tax, insurance, test fees, or anything ???
And BTW zebra crossings go accross roads, the road in this case is an inconvenience. A cyclist goes along road to get somewhere...no helmet, no lights,no tax,no Insurance,no id, no responsibility. Enjoy it. It wont last. Especially for powered cycles.

Why don't you just shut up and feck off OG. I don't know who is the most self opinionated, bigoted argumentutive remainer posting on here but you are certainly in top 2.
I challenge you to find a post I have made initiating insult or patronising. Mine have all been in response to yours or Toms argumentutive bile. Just fecking grow up. This thread is ( or should be) an embarrassment to any folk really interested in cycling.
Congratulations are in order then as you have achieved your objective in coming on here and providing us with an amateur impression of Nigel Farage performing like a football hooligan at the EU parliament.

Hi Zlatan, I think you may be missing the point? Our roads and cycle lanes are paid for using our taxes regardless of where they come from. We all benefit from a good road system whether or not we own a car. Ambulances, police cars, fire engines, public transport all need to use the roads, I am sure you wouldn't ask for a special road using tax from anyone who needed to use any of these services?

Bicycle lanes as Flecc says are all a part of an efficient transport system, cutting down on pollution and congestion, making life better for all.

Cycles are one of the few freedoms we still enjoy in the UK, and throughout the world, why knock that freedom? All licensing bicycle use would achieve is to create yet another huge government department costing millions, creating mountains of red tape, for what benefit?

The Government puts all the revenue collected at the pumps and by the way of the incorrectly named Road Tax into the same pot as VAT payments and income tax. Waiving Road Tax on electric cars, and reducing it massively on cleaner fossil fuel powered cars is a way to encourage cleaner more efficient transport. Why would anyone want to penalise those who use the ultimate in low pollution vehicles?

All the best, David

You really don't get it do you? I pay all my taxes including motoring associated ones into the national unhypothecated budget. Like every citizen I'm entitled to use the general road network without a specific payment to do so. Whether that's walking, cycling, horse riding or driving is immaterial, it's a universal right.

Please tell me another road user who doesn't pay road tax, insurance, test fees, or anything ???
How can you be so wrong about everything? There is no such thing as Road Tax, it was abolished nearly a hundred years ago. You probably mean the annual excise duty which has nothing to do with road provision and maintenance.

Third party insurance also has nothing to do with road provision and maintenance.

Test fees are not a tax or a government income but a payment to help cover the cost of the test service.

no helmet, no lights,no tax,no Insurance,no id, no responsibility. Enjoy it. It wont last. Especially powered cycles.
Complete bunkum and ignorant of all the facts.. The government wants to promote cycling and resists anything that might impede it's growth. They have repeatedly blocked private members bills to make cycle helmets compulsory and have taken the same approach to other measures affecting cyclists.

The pro-helmet brigade tried the back-door method of a bill to introduce compulsory helmets for children, but once again the government blocked even that, refusing to allow any parliamentary time for it.

And the most recent law to affect us, passed in April 2015, emphasised that legal e-bikes remain treated as ordinary bikes, so no helmets etc for any of us.

My UK investments are doing fine ??? Really well infact..???
The article is very good..
if you never intend to leave the uk that is true - if you plan to spend any time(and money) outside the uk, you have lost 30% of your income due to the pounds devaluation. the uk has done much for me - professionally and personally, as much as financially, so I feel sincerely bad for having to say this. but IMHO the weather sucks, nine (no make that 11) months of the year. So, I prefer to be elsewhere, Martinique, nice, etc. and perhaps do more than buy cappuccino. you may want to buy a boat, even a house. either of which will now cost you 30% more than six months ago. it all depends on where you want to spend your future winters I guess.

Agreed.
I honestly think pound will recover,, especially against euro. Will take time. Not me saying this but most investment manager reports I,ve read say same. Perhaps 5 years post brexit. 2 years post no brexit.(IMHO)
And living in Spain even under current exchange rate is cheap. ( Brandy £5 a bottle. Menu del dia 3 course with drink £10, it was ridiculously cheap pre referendum , falsely so ?)

ok. that's good then... so just 5 years or 2 years of us paying x% more for things.

How do you feel about the impact of leaving the single market and the impact of border control and tarrifs on all our imports? That will in my experience add a lot more than the currency decline has already. But then I run an import company so I do have direct experience of importing from all over the world.

Yes I can see that. I didn't say I favoured out btw. I think higher prices f/ lower profits are a price people are willing to pay in efforts to keep what they see as control. I also think in the longer term derestriction in none eu dealings will reap rewards. There are many financial experts who blatantly know more than me pinning their futures on bring out the EU. ( Hargreaves was outspoken but not unique)
