The only reason they speak English is because English, as a language, rules the world.

It's probably our biggest export.

Calling for another referendum puts you at the same intellectually bereft level as that dreadful Scottish woman who keeps on bleating about another vote until she gets the result she wants.

What if the next referendum is still out?

Presumably, you will want another, and another.

If you can have another referendum, so can I, so if yours is remain, I shall start squealing for another, and another.

Even a fool can see that's a total nonsense.

We've voted to leave a short-lived, desperately flawed, crappy little treaty organisation which has an overblown sense of its own importance.

Big deal, joining - and leaving - the EU will amount to barely a footnote when the history of our country is written.

Oh, and those wedding guests - and their children and grandchildren - will all still be speaking English.
I'm all for triggering article 50, as for the life of me i can't see how the Chief champions of the cause imagined how they were going to make the economy work, unless reducing the workforce to subservient penury allows them to be used as the Chinese use their people as intelligent cattle in dire factory conditions.
We have so called record levels of employment and yet
"more people are in work than ever before. The proportion of children living in a household where no-one works has fallen from nearly one in four in 1994–95 to less than one in six in 2014–15. The “new poor” tend to live in households where there is someone in work.
And it has been like that for some time
"Almost a third (33%) of the UK population experienced poverty in at least one year between 2010 and 2013, equivalent to approximately 19.3 million people. In contrast, across the EU as a whole, a quarter (25%) of people were in poverty at least once during that period, with a larger proportion of people in the UK experiencing poverty at least once over those 4 years than in many other EU countries."
So in fact our performance is worse than the rest of the EU."
And the debt has risen to £1,6 Trillion.
And now, with no plan, no investment, and fools trying to run the country, you expect an improvement?

By voting to leave, with nothing in the way of plan,,material advantage, or even the security of ready made markets for our all important financial services and largely Foreign Owned industry, you dare to make a joke like

"We've voted to leave a short-lived, desperately flawed, crappy little treaty organisation which has an overblown sense of its own importance."?
What have you done instead?

You've voted to leave the EU for a short-lived, desperately flawed, crappy little right wing organisation which has an overblown sense of its own importance, is run by a bunch of liars and deceivers who don't know what to do next, and whose only objective is to make sure the rich stay rich and the poor become poorer?
Smart Move!
Bring it on! the sooner Brexit fans learn what they have done the better.
Perhaps then and only then will common sense prevail

Oh come on! It's third behind Chinese and Spanish. You may have sunk the armada but their language rules yours. There are even more people in the USA who speak Spanish than there are who speak a very crappy variant of English.

Even on this forum the English used is sub par to say the least, most of your young people have no notions of spelling and gramar. I feel your pain, my eldest son's French is deplorable, worse than his fathers!

"
There is little prospect of Britain leaving the EU before 2020, according to the former head of the Civil service.

Speaking at a Scottish Parliament event, Lord Bob Kerslake said that leaving the EU would be “a lot more complex and take a lot more time than people think it will."
Lord Kersalke, who held the position for two years from 2012 to 2014, described Brexit as an "enormous challenge."
I don’t believe we will have completed the process by 2019. I think there will still be big issues being resolved", Lord Kerslake said, according to the Daily Mail.

“I think it’s at least five years away, maybe longer. All this talk of it being a two-year process is optimistic."

The anti-BREXIT propaganda / campaigners have adopted a similar modus operandi to Jeremy Corbyn and his phantom full train carriage. That is, if there are no facts to support your cause, simply fabricate some!

I see that Corbyn's nemesis, Mr Nobody Knows Who You Are, is pledging another EU referendum, if elected Prime Minister (chuckle). What happens if that vote is also to leave? Another vote? Then another, then another until the "correct" out come is achieved. Do we then hold yet another referendum to see if people really did intend to vote remain? Didn't think so.

The comic response of the day is this one
"
Sir Patrick McLoughlin, the chairman of the Conservative Party, accused Mr Smith of wanting to ignore the outcome of the referendum.

"The result of the referendum was clear and decisive and we in the Conservative Party will deliver on the people's verdict," he said.

"Whether it's Jeremy Corbyn or Owen Smith, Labour are too divided and out of touch to make a success of Brexit."

Which means he believes somewhere out there in the land of make believe, some mythical being or organisation exists that actually knows how to works miracles?
Ooh! thank goodness for that! anyone care to guess who it might be?

couple of points, you do realise the recent referendum was the 2nd one don't you? Plus I suspect he's not calling for a referendum, he's actually saying they'd stand on the basis of remaining in the next general election and then they wouldn't need a referendum.

Exactly Rob, second referendums are a nonsense. Which is why we should ignore this Cameron one since it was the second. The first one in 1975 was for Remain and that was our final decision.

Little organisation? It's behind only China and India in size!

And 44 years is hardly short lived. It will outlive all of us.

central to the brexit's argument is the Euro will fail next year, then the EU will implode, leaving Belgium looking to forming a new North Sea alliance.

Agree about the dire standard of written English, even among those who one might think are old enough to know better.

Which proves our schools have been turning out the semi-literate for decades.

But English is still the dominant world language in finance, business, air travel, diplomacy, sport, etc.

Speaking Chinese will not get you very far around any other continent, but speaking English will.

English really is all over the place.

Too many examples to list, but if you watch, say, Barcelona play Real Madrid at football, some of the pitch side advertising is in English.

Yet when Manchester United play Liverpool, there's no adverts in anything other an English.

That's instructive, but trivial.

When a Korean(?) airliner crashed off Japan a few years ago, someone worked out there were five or six nationalities involved in the preceding radio air traffic.

They all spoke English.

I'm not sure that's the best example to use ;)
It's an excellent example, given there is no reason for the people involved in an incident on the other side of the world to be speaking English.

The only reason they do is because English is the dominant language in the world by some distance.

you missed my point... which was that the plane crashed. So not that successful a use of the English language.

But yes, having raced bikes all over the world I can confirm that in cycling its also the dominant language. But I'm not sure that's a good thing, it can be argued that it's made us a lazy / arrogant nation of travelers.

'rules the world'........? 'biggest export'......? 'dreadful Scottish woman'......?

Rob, you are clearly a person heavily imbued with the kind of xenophobia normally associated with the 'Britain First' racists. Your fear of another referendum illustrates your lack of confidence in the nation's continued support for the dash towards mass economic suicide brought upon us by lying, fascist, self-aggrandising, minor politicians who just happen to be multi-millionaires.

I can only guess that you really do believe the kind of rhetoric which produces nonsensical statements such as your 'rules the world' comment. If you wish to be taken seriously, you really ought to avoid banging the drum about Britain's superiority in such juvenile terms. Moreover, if the English language is our biggest export, is that a sensible basis for ploughing our own furrow after divorcing ourselves from our fellow human beings on mainland Europe?

As for 'dreadful Scottish', how is Mrs Sturgeon different from Mrs May? Should we refer to the PM as 'that dreadful English woman'? At least Mrs Sturgeon is actually articulating the views of a nation which voted strongly in favour of 'Remain', which is her job.

People seem to have very quickly forgotten that Jo Cox was murdered by a nutcase, strongly influenced apparently, by the 'Brexit' rhetoric from the fascist spokespeople although some of that persuasion seem to view her death simply as collateral damage in the quest for freedom, in their misguided belief that we suffer under tyranny from the other nations of Europe. In a civilised society, there should be no place for fascism or racism but clearly, you seem happy to conjoin with the people who populate those radical groups in pursuit of some kind of British superiority like the days of Empire.

I'm afraid, Rob, your contribution has told us all much more about you and your beliefs than it has about 'Brexit', the EU, the economy or the way Britain is governed.

I accept your point, but I prefer to argue that with some 300 important languages in the world, all of us randomly learning various other languages is pointless. What any individual can achieve is still far short of adequate so of very limited use.

Much better that one particular language is learnt by all. Learning and using other languages by the English lessens the need for others to learn English, which I think a retrograde step. Personally I'd like to see the end of Babel with all other languages disappearing over time.

It's a simple matter of fact to say English is the dominant language in the world.

Going on about racism, xenophobia, Jo Cox and the rest is entirely irrelevant.

But it is a cheap, easy shot for the intellectually challenged.

Your 'matter of fact' is somewhat spurious, certainly debatable and your choice of adjective is quite indicative of the message you wish to put across but perhaps that is just me being a little pedantic.

As for the despicable nature of racism, fascism and the shocking, brutal murder of a woman being described by you as totally irrelevant, that, in my eyes, is beyond contempt. Have you no shame or self-respect?

Having shown yourself in your true colours, you then go on demonstrate with your closing remark that you don't want to be taken seriously, (I did suggest to you that you ought to avoid using juvenile terms).
