In a bid for the title of the Conservative Parties most trustworthy man Osborne made the following statement this morning
"What a difference in two weeks! Osborne says City will THRIVE following the Brexit and remain the world's dominant financial centre
"
The chancellor was the chief architect of ‘project fear’, issuing a series of shrill warnings about‎ the damage brexit would inflict upon the economy. A Treasury report- dubbed the ‘dodgy dossier’ by eurosceptics- warned that Britain would plunge into recession, house prices would fall sharply and trade and foreign investment would be badly hit. George Osborne also threatened to hold an emergency budget if the public voted for brexit- hiking taxes and cutting public spending.

Wall Street giants Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan and Citigroup contributed a total of £1.5 million to the losing remain campaign.

During the campaign they threatened to move thousands of jobs out of London in the event of Brexit and warned of the damage leaving the EU will wreak upon the City of London and the wider economy.
And yet after all that, today they say
"
George Osborne and the Wall Street banking giants which helped bankroll the Remain campaign yesterday issued a resounding vote of confidence in the City of London.

In a joint statement with the Chancellor, investment banks including Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan pledged to ensure the City of London remains the world’s dominant financial centre when it leaves the EU.

The firms said that while Brexit ‘clearly presents economic challenges’, they would strive to ensure Britain ‘remains one of the most attractive places in the world to do business’."

Put not your trust in Princes and certainly not in Bankers and Politicians either.
Let me interpret their message for you

"Brexit will be a hell of a bad time to be one of the Indians, but a bloody great time to be one of the Cowboys"
Style of thing.

Heads you win, Tails you win, you always get to criticise
Thank you for posting this encouraging article, so you confirm
- that Cameron and Osborne were unmitigated liars and Fear mongers in the campaign
- You confirm that now Osborne and his merry gang have only 2 weeks in done a neat U Turn and are now full of optimism for the future
- And finally the so called experts you were expounding us to listen to before the vote are now not to be trusted, or in the words of OG, trust no-one they are all idiots
Your thought processes and tenacity to your own views is unprecedented, well not quite, there is Saint Tony Blair whom today confirmed he is not Napoleon, but he is a close relative

First of all I did not ever say you should listen to Osborne and co, so why did you make that up?
You really should try not distorting the facts throughout I have not once referred to their scare mongering campaign have I? In fact I have as accused them of lying about the EU not the economy.
Tenacious yes, when telling the truth!

Yes the lower pound does make our products look attractive price wise to EU countries but we are a trading nation, stand at Felixstowe for a day to see the container ships arriving!
Those goods coming in are costing 10% more,or will do in a months time when the current batch is out of the system.
So we will see price rises that will negate the advantage of the lower pound.
Kudos/Rally Design holds stocks for 6 months ahead and forward buys some currency so we are insulated from immediate price rises but unless the pound recovers against the USD/RMB we will see substantial cost increases later in 2016.

I thought Leadsome was ardent Brexit,so why in the leadership contest was she the first to guarantee that EU citizens already here can stay here?
Whereas May is part time Brexit soon to be Luke warm Remainer, shouldn't she be the one to make these guarantees?
No logic in politics.

Ian Heslop was wonderful on Question Time especially on the same panel as George Galloway, actually both of them said a lot of sense.
I loved his comment about Tony Blair who is henceforth banished to making after dinner speeches on toilet roll usage in Azerbajan, that is his punishment for the Iraq war.
Many of the young people declared they didn't vote in the referendum because they didn't understand what they were voting for,I would suggest that most of the oldies didn't know what they were voting for except that Boris (who?) was a nice cuddle.
Ian Heslop made the comment that most of the Leavers have jumped ship now that the proverbial has hit the fan, shouldn't Boris,Farage,Gove be leaders doing the hard graft of negotiating the terms of exit with the EU? I suppose that is not so much fun as touring the country in a big red bus.

The one aspect of the EU that I won't miss is the constant red tape that we seem to be the only country which relishes its implementation. Anyone who runs a small business knows that there is an army of government employees from Distant Selling compliance,HMRC,Import Duty verification,HSE,Trading Standards,RoHs compliance,Vat etc etc ....I cheekily said to one the other day is there one labelled 'helpful'?,they all have one thing in common,no sense of humour, hehe!
I suspect that post Brexit these guys will still be there, plus a few new ones, maybe Brexit compliance department!

Not so bad in the cities, that is why the cities selfishly ignored their compatriots and voted remain.
In England and Wales, the split was 45/55%
Selfishly? Who on earth do you think has been keeping this country afloat with their earnings? The Cities like London of course, losing almost all of what they earn to carry the rest of the country. We have many desparate needs in London , far greater than anywhere else in the UK, and we earn the money to solve the problems. But it's taken from us for redistribution as soon it arrives.

I agree it looks quite odd IF you are the view that Brexit is anti immigrants and remainers are pro- immigrants, but this is really not the case and has never been the mainstream view despite some extreme views and the usual misinformation
As a brexiter I am not at all anti immigration, it is solely about reasonable controls, so in that case what would be the point of throwing out people that are already here, doing valuable jobs, none at all! so I agree with Leadsome
On the other side is May that reasonably is trying to keep an open view in anticipation of difficult negotiations, and particularly is aware of the need to protect British nationals living abroad, again very reasonable
But on balance i agree that EU nationals or UK nationals should not be bargaining pieces and live with such uncertainty.

I just heard that the Government has just voted to guarantee that current EU Nationals can stay. A victory for common sense, but surprisingly very quick considering. Good news. Now lets see how long the EU takes to give the same rights to UK Nationals? don't hold your breath

And there you go again reminding me of Tony.
Your truth and view of the world is in an unpenetrable bubble which is why conversation is largely pointless
Since facts don't interest you?

Why should they? We need EU nationals in this country, they keep most business and NHS working. The UK Nationals in the EU are mostly pensioner who have retired there. We are not in a position of bargaining power, its like me falling out with Morrison's when my family work for them!

well, theyre not the ones that chose to change the relationship. and expelling EU nationals would, ito the economy, be choosing to blow the other foot off with the same brexit shotgun. if the pound keeps falling i wouldnt bank on eu nationals wanting to be here. but i wonder how far removed this is from recognising free movement?

As I pointed out I don't think existing immigrants or emigrants should be the subject of negotiations. Not a case of "why should they" but simply on good relations grounds. we will see whether they reciprocate which I do not expect in near term, it is not in the commissions nature. That is exactly the problem, rigid, inflexible, bureaucratic and out of touch with its so called Citizens
It will no doubt rapidly use the excuse of Clause 50 has not yet been enacted, just wait for it

but the uk voted brexit - to a very large extent - as an objection to free movement of peopel from te eu. how woudl teh uk have responoded if teh eu voted to expel the uk because it didnt want uk citizens to freely travel there? not very kindly i imagine.

Classic problem!!!!

You're talking about the commission... that's like talking about the department for transport. They are not an elected group and don't make decisions, they just advise on things. Its the European Parliment that will vote on it, and they are elected, by you guessed it... us!
