"Anthony Charles Lynton Blair (born 6 May 1953) is a British politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1997 to 2007 and Leader of the Labour Party from 1994 to 2007. He is the most recent British Labour Party leader to have won a general election."

He probably wasn't a socialist but he was definitely labour.

Otherwise rather a fundamental error on wikipedia.
Fundamental error? could be! New Labour, Not Labour.

"Tony Blair is “betraying Britain” by meeting EU chief Jean-Claude Juncker today, claim angry Tories.
The Labour ex-PM calls it a “regular catch-up” with his fellow Europhile."

Arguing Tony Blair was not labour; labour leader or a Labour PM is at best pedantics and at worst plain daft. Sorry flecc, he simply was, agreed his policies nor his attitudes and relationship with unions didn't reflect labour thinking but never the less he was labour, labour leader , and a Labour PM.
Because you think otherwise , or because John Prescot thinks he should be banned from Labour party changes nothing.
He has gone down in history as a labour PM because he was. Fact.

New Labour, Not Labour.
I doubt that we will ever have a socialist government in my lifetime.
You need to occupy the centre to win power.

Occupy the centre of what? The Corbyn Group would have been in the centre of every European Country than this one, and the Tory party are far too far to the right of every other one to be called Centrist.
Sorry that's an Urban Myth

Occupy the centre of what?
the gravity centre of our electorate. No point to extend our boundary to the EU, we will be floating alone in the North Sea soon enough.

Not much of a mark is it? already under criticism by the UN for abusing Human Rights on Welfare and the ECJ on Police State surveillance laws.

So this statement
"There won't be too many poorly paid workers being taken advantage of in this country - in the not too distant future, that's for sure. Wonder what the lefties will have to complain about then?"
Doesn't mean that wage are going to rise??
What does it mean then? don't you understand your own statements?

Really? Well at least we know of one person who believes that

"New Labour refers to a period in the history of the British Labour Party from the mid-1990s until 2010, under the leadership of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. "

Its normally the extreme left who claim " New Labour" is some how not Labour in a futile attempt to distance themselves from the damage inflicted on country by that LABOUR organisation. Thought you OG would be rather more analytical.

I agree with that, but you didn't actually mention it, did you?
Actually years ago in the 1970's I was a member of a Think tank called the "Home of the Future" that explored the possibilities of an automated future, where people would be paid Not to work, and devote their lives to research and the Arts.
Where we got it horribly wrong was a lack of understanding of Human Greed, where rather than invest in Automation and reorganising society to share the wealth generated, rich investors put their money into what was effectively slave labour economies in the Far East, much less risky, and quicker returns.
Brexit is a case where theoretically automation will give the results we envisaged back then.
We are wiser now, investors will simply abuse the public just as they always have.

I am and they were not true Socialists.
And neither is Corbyn, he lacks the internationalism needed, just a "local Citizen Smith" at heart.
New Labour was the obvious Westminster Club way of giving the impression of a Choice where there wasn't one, as the policies were interchangeable, with the Tories, a very comfortable situation equivalent to "Match Rigging"
And in fact the damage New Labour inflicted was actually less evident than that inflicted by the Banking sector, and later the Aggressive wars still being waged by the present Government, which are hardly mentioned in the Press.

Why do you imagine that the graph of immigrants coming in has gone through the roof in the last couple of years?
Because the provocations by America and ourselves are still stoking the fires, plus selling Arms to the Saudis isn't going to bring peace to the area is it?

Brexit will simply unleash a right wing Pogrom on the Laws to benefit the creation of profit regardless of the consequences to the people and the environment.

that is already part of the EU's agenda, called 'universal income'.
You contribute to society in your way, society will give you everything you need.
Sounds very civilized indeed.
But would it turn out like our NHS?

until we know exactly what is in the bill, we can only speculate. The UK's contribution to the EU in 2016 is about £13 billions, £4.5 billions were spent in the UK, net contribution £8.5 billions. The EU is said to demand about 10 years worth of net contribution to settle the outstanding liabilities.
Do you think the figure is credible?
Its as if you think the EU is hiding it?

Oh no wait... its all documented and available to view.

You still think of us as a rich country. Some people are rich, but in reality, a small minority. The vast majority of taxpayers are not in this category. They take home less than £2k a month and still have to feed and cloth their children. That amount is not far off what you would get on universal income scheme.
If you accept that politics is the art of the possible, then don't heap the blame on some individuals like TB. There is no glory in not winning power.
