Davis painted himself into a corner.
He can't be a hard brexiter and cooperative with the EU at the same time.
If I were TM, I'd replace Davis with Gove.
He'd sweet talk the hard brexiters into wanting to negotiate and cooperate.
If brexit is on WTO terms, then the reality is to accept a hard border between NI and ROI, with the possibility of reunification of Ireland. There is no mileage in adopting a confusing position.

Just ignore the border problem in Ireland.....when the guys in N.I. start moving serious amount of non tariff product from N.I. to Ireland and then onto mainland Europe, then the EU will put pressure on Ireland to build a hard border to stop that flow, the EU will pay for the border and accept the responsibility of policing and maintaining.....no problem for the UK.
Maybe Davis has suggested that ,which is why Barnier/Juncker is suggesting that we are not serious, maybe we are not doing what they want.
The border is their problem not ours.
We just have to appear stupid, that should be easy and natural.

For maximum comedy effect, why not launch Rees Mogg at the EU?
Lets see what a Toff can do!

But they want payment in Euros, which means the bill has gone up by 30% since the referendum.....if we print more pounds that will be inflationary,so we will need more to cover the Euros.
KudosDave

maybe.
I am skeptical. Find me a well educated, intelligent toff minister, and able to speak fluently a foreign language in recent years

there is some truth in what you said.
If Davis agrees to pay any money, he could say goodbye to ever become PM.
By now I doubt even he wants the job, you'd have to be as Daft as Moggy to do that!
After all Boris didn't want it and Gollum's wife said "NO!"

JRM was only a rich peasant and a city dealer before the brexit referendum.
He reminds me of a character in Poldark.

Well Moggy fits in two out of three of those categories, aren't you being a bit "picky" requiring intelligence?
Not normally required on the CV of a Politician now is it?

we are at a natural disadvantage because most politicians working in the EU can speak English and none of our ministers can speak well enough a foreign language.
They can spy on us.

We can't pay nothing. We've signed up to some ongoing project costs to completion and if we welsh on those agreements there will be long term international consequences.

However, those amounts aren't remotely like the multi-billions that have been mentioned to date, so shouldn't be difficult to swallow.
.
I have a cunning plan Sir! said Baldrick
"Cant we pay them the money if they agree to say publicly they actually asked for a lot more but we made them agree?"

Do you realise they might be reading your posts right now!
That will serve 'em right!

And the worst Foreign language our politicians struggle with is?

If results is what we want there is the Nuclear Option

Perhaps the time has come to set Farage on the them.

May I introduce Lord Nigel - European barbed wire hurdling champion until a tragic accident.

Highly commended.

I think Theresa May is wanting us to crash out....think of the advantages...
1. No more contributions to pay.
2. Collecting all those tariff dues, probably £20 billion from the EU....we bring in lots from Asia so probably similar from China/Asia.
3. The pound crashing is making our stuff look very cheap in Euroland
4. Bring down corporation tax to 15% to keep big business here.
5. The fall in the £ value means paying back the debt easier and lowering the deficit.
6. Leave our borders as open as possible for exports (smuggling),no need for an Irish border.

I think Davis has realised that, maybe even been told, that is why he doesn't seem to be trying hard to get a deal.

you've done an excellent job to justify why brexit.
