Like the way OG now quotes Hargreaves when he says something he agrees with. When Hargreaves was, and still is BTW, saying financially we are better out he was ridiculed.

Neither have I, it's all free on the net, and where are you getting your info from then?
I watch a lot of TV and my daughter is a journalist.
She worked for a while at the Bureau of investigative journalism. Some of their ethics did get to me.

So he has to be wrong all the time? have you always suffered from wearing blinkers and earplugs?
Even you on rare occasion admittedly, can stumble on the truth now and then.
So can others with the same limited imagination

And the TV is unbiassed is it?
I don't know if you know how rigorous students in journalism are trained by our top universities in news gathering and writing. I got a bit of it second hand but I think you don't hold high enough regard for those who gather news and the photographers and cameramen who work for big news gathering organisations.

Heck I studied as a mature student with and remained friends with a chap with this CV:

Visiting Lecturer at City University
Journalist at Freelance journalist
Former Night News Editor at Sunday Express
Former News Editor at East Anglian Daily Times
Studied MA Investigative Journalism at City University London
Studied Philosophy and Literature Joint Hons at University of Essex

He barely attended any A'Level English Lit/Lang lectures and just cribbed and skimmed my notes - he passed with an 'A' and I a 'C' :). Doesn't suffer fools gladly type - and is quite anti-Brixit...

Wicky, I don't know what he is like to have a pint with but there are lots of differences in writing a political column and and reporting news and news analysis. They don't apply the same scientific standards most of the time.

Wicky, my daughter works for AFP.
They sell news to a lot of companies and have very high standards.
Most of the time, her work involves world news.

Maakes ne smile how OG and a few others assume other people are taken in by the media but never ever themselves.
OG assumes all Brexit supporters are so because of right wing press.
Those same people apply same standards to EU, everything positive is seen as EU's responsibility and everything negative the individual countries fault. My point about Catalonia is not to knock H&S ( obviously) or even blame EU for situation. Its the simple fact they have done nothing to help...at all..but then have a look at other parts of Europe which are poverty free and don't have girls in high viz jackets sat at side of road...Luxembourg doesn't does it OG...Because your glorious EU leader has made sure Luxembourg is 2nd richest nation on planet...How ironic is that...wonder how he,d cope with his family having to resort to such things to make money.??
The remainers hold EU up as some glorious pillar of strength for underprivileged. Absolute BS...its as far from it as our current government. Probably further.Just go and ask the Catalans or the Greeks ...EU has done nothing towards addressing distribution of wealth in Europe. Its got worse in last 15 years, not better. Yes , it may talk about redistributing investment but examine what's happened...nothing achieved. Work in progress...whilst Luxembourg and countless MEPs get richer and richer.

I think you may have misunderstood. Peter Hargreaves meant he would be better off.

And as one of the wealthy, he would be right of course.

If you cant see it in the fact that girls selling themselves at sides of new roads ,paid for by EU, are made to wear hi viz jackets for their safety.
Nonsense, the regulation you quoted was for road workers, the EU ruling doesn't apply to these girls, regardless of what a local administration says.

I have the highest regard for their training, but their SCRUPLES are often highly questionable, as an Education doesn't Guarantee either honesty or Wisdom

You can only expect respect if you EARN it, it doesn't come with a Diploma. automatically.

The European Union
"EN471 Class 2 – Intermediate visibility level is required for any person working on or near A and B class roads.
Garments intended for users who need greater visibility in poor weather conditions and whose activities occur near roadways where traffic speeds exceed 25 mph."

The French ladies wear them too.!!!

And the plaque by side of road clearly states paid for by EU grants..perhaps claimed illegally but none the less from EU.
And yes its in Catalonia.
High vis is used on or near all roads by workers all over the world because it helps stop them being run over. Why is it shocking that the EU has a directive?

The EU produces directives, not laws. Governments take EU directives and make them law, or not... Governments can cherry pick which directives they want to go into NATIONAL (yes I am shouting, the message has to get through) law. High vis is obligatory in France when riding a bicycle after sunset and not in Spain, helmets obligatory in Spain and not in France, and so on, those are national laws.

Governments (the sovereign things the UK doesn't like) ask for money for stuff like roads from the EU regional development fund. Spain has done it extensively and moved from mule tracks to very good roads in recent decades. That they put up signs to say "Thank you Europe" is rather polite of them isn't it? Informing the general public of whom is providing the funding for public works is quite common, even when the EU isn't involved.

Spain is a sort of federation made up of several regional governments, some with quite a lot of autonomous local government powers. Sounds a bit like the UK and devolution? It is possible that the Catalonia Government asked for the funds for roads directly from the EU, they can do that, and asking for money is legal. When local government officials ask contractors for under the table bribes it isn't legal and has NOTHING to do with the EU. The EU when sending money for such projects TRUSTS the government in question to do the right thing with the funds received. Governments are sovereign...

Sorry to be long and boring but as you obviously don't know what the EU does (and from reading your posts, probably don't even care) a little information to dispel the false things you were saying seemed to be needed...

OG, I am not my daughter, I only tried to say that I have some idea how to detect fake news and journalists who let their personal leaning interfere with their interviews. I have never put down any opponent in any debate by questioning their education attainment or whether they get their information from a fortune cookie.

It seems your "fake news" detector let you down then, didn't I?
And journalists who don't follow the party line of the media that employs them , regardless of how they really feel find themselves unemployed.
