In my ill advised back of envelope way I'd be tempted to whack three 12v 30a lifepo4's in series (can be had for about 100 quid each), which would give three times 385wh (in fact am half tempted to do this for old ebike I have with too saggy battery that use about 800w max, plonk it in something like big carradice saddlebag perhaps).
That'd be more mileage than I can endure in one cycle ride. I don't know how my BBS01B controller and display will respond to their fully charged voltage, but displays don't cost too much and I have a spare controller... or perhaps I could reduce the output voltage using a suitable converter. The expansion of individual lipo packs would be contrained by each of those casings. I could experiment with three smaller packs, or re-route the internal wiring of one; change the BMS. All good food for thought.




Renogy (have no first hand experience) sell 12v 400a (just over 5kwh usable) for a black Friday £1.8k.
For your car conversion? Too heavy probably.

There's 80 3.2v lifepo4 cells in a 12v 100ah battery - so something like 26 in a 30ah - so some scope for even making a 385wh 36v by reconnecting cells. On a cheap Chinese ebike I built years ago the controller was happy with accepting a range of voltages from anything. But AFAIK one shouldn't draw more than 1C and a BBS01B will likely want much more than 385w... Sadly same story with 5kwh lifepo4 that weighs 50kg - I need at least 15, preferably 20kw and reconnecting cells to increase voltage still to state obvious does not change max output of 5kw (1C). If I were happy with a 30mph neighbourhood vehicle it would be a cheap way to go (but I'm not), it probably says something about citroens' profit margin on that little plastic cube that's all the rage in Nice
Edit - there is the possibility of using a capacitor to increase battery output above 1C
but to my non technical mind it's a rabbit hole that's likely deeper than tory asylum policy

It'll be about a year or so before I look into buying a new ebike battery, good job too. I need 20A continuous discharge, but I really don't know much about this stuff - would two of those packs in post #109,921 at the same voltage in parallel with a Schottky suffice? Nope. I should start a thread on a non Brexit related one...

With the controller at 15A, my BBS01B uses 16Wh per mile... in rush hour traffic, I only average a tad over 8mph, so for the sake of £99 and the cost of a BMS, one of those 385Wh packs could be useful for my shorter journeys of 12 miles or so. If that works out, I could add one or two more. The longevity of lipo is alluring.

some reason brings to mind earlier discussion re ev's (perhaps about what one need as opposed to want?). recently sold mine and seriously thinking of not buying another (in our unsubsidized neocon reality with post ukraine energy costs it seems a massively overindulgent overexpensive solution, specially on a steamy little island on which nothing work)

I have it at max assistance at all times, so it requires no effort to pedal whatsoever, which is the way I like it. Even dragging heavy trailers uphill is easy. Mid drive with 52T>11T, so it's also fast - when speed derestricted, it did an easy 22mph. It'd be faster now at 18A. If I were still young and stupid, I would have fitted a 60T chainwheel. My ebike made me fat and unfit! I put on almost three stones, which slow jogging and intermittent fasting has almost got rid of.

The last thing I want from my ebike is exercise.

kind of get that (built hub drive ebike once that used 4kw with few 20ah 20v hobbyking lipos, very entertaining). But recently had an epiphany - cross trainer in a gym feels much easier, less frightening than the hammering out ten miles on treadmill. Because its adjustable, one can stay in a reasonably exhausting but not difficult zone. Same with ebike (perhaps more with torque sensor?), specially on grim winter day (good to know one can up power and escape)

I barely recognise that word - it does not relate to the operation of my easily ghost pedalled cadence sensored max assist BBS01B in any way whatsoever. It's why I have a BBS01B.

Yes but (while I wouldn't dream of stopping anyone from indulging in leisure) scipio would say numquam se minus otiosum esse, quam cum otiosus; nec minus solum, quam cum solus esset (I'm never less at leisure than when at leisure, or less alone than when alone); one may need to be more distracted, occupied? a gentle pedelec may be more fun than a slow run?

Good thing too, our underying trading figures have been steadily getting worse and are now way down on 2016's. France and Germany's well above ours.

Yet we get idiots like Richard Drax saying "we are doing very well, thank you". He might be, but many millions would strongly disagree.

Realise one need to take a large step back when considering average conservative voter. Suspend a lot of basic assumptions. Realize one is looking at someone who thought truss, kwarteng, Boris, hancock, smog were future leadership material. But, as it becomes more and more obvious braverman will lead them into the next election, I can't help wondering how they feel about this, the laughing stock she is making the uk around the world?

Knowing deep down they will probably lose the next GE anyway, I think that might make them realise it's a risk not worth taking for no reward.

And then there is the gender factor. They've tried the female PM angle three times already, each becoming more disastrous than the previous one. Won't they realise before it's too late that Braverman is certainly well qualified to continue that trend?

Whatever the outcome, it probably won't matter:

The current House of Commons Tory MPs are doing a fine job of destroying any chance they might once have had of electoral success.

We are probably condemned to have a pseudo Labour next government.

And no matter who, it will be at least ten years of downhill all the way in prospect, starting from where we are. Given the state that is and our horrible weather, perhaps we British common public should leave this country to the boat people and apply for the next flight to Rwanda!
