Greener satellite launches using slingshots:

I'd seen that and followed your reference for more information. I was very disappointed, I had hoped to find it used rubber bands for motive power.

Pretty depressing news on the health front:

Only 29% of UK Covid hospital patients recover within a year
Of the 750,000 hospitalised, many still report fatigue, muscle pain, insomnia and breathlessness, with women worst affected

I got talking to someone I was looking to buy a bike from and he mentioned he was suffering from long covid, was sick of brain fog... then he mentioned he'd just been on a "Green retreat" in Portugal... which I asked about, thinking it was a fortnight of drinking green veg juice or something, but no - he'd been microdosing magic mushroom extract for weeks to combat long covid brain fog and depression, also to work out anger issues about his dad who had died riding an recumbent ebike for a charity event while carrying a disabled passenger - it was fortunate that his dad collapsed dead at a red light (aged 87); his disabled passenger was safe.

He'd got into drugs after trying weed for the first time (aged 65), having found some during a pilgrimage to Camilla de Santiago - he thinks a cylist had dropped his stash... on that same pilgrimage, he hooked up with a Califirnian trust funder, who turned out to be an "Real" witch. Then he mentioned that she'd just returned from California with a lot of acid tabs - at this point I suspected there was an offer somewhere for the sale of drugs... told him magic mushrroms and acid were probably not the best way to treat long covid, to which he replied that he might ask his doctor for antidepressants.

I didn't buy his dad's bike, in case it was haunted.

I certainly think that magic mushrooms have potential as a medicine - directly or using some extract, or even synthesising active ingredients.

It disrupts chronic depression, when nothing else has - taken under supervision in a controlled environment, it does appear to work for some, temporarily at the very least. That chap was certainly an advocate. Trouble is, the brain gets used to micro-doses, and I think that's why he'd hurled himself headlong into acid and not-so-micro dosing.

It works without supervision. :)

But safety might be enhanced by having supervision.

The Times seems certain Sue Gray has some very bad news for Johnson:

Sue Gray report ‘so damning Boris Johnson will have to quit’

Paywall only lets me read the first bit.

He probably won't take any notice, especially if he doesn't get a further fine from the Met. Just another abject apology and comment that now it's time to get on with the job that needs doing.

Surviving against all the odds by exploiting the foolishness of others.

That he's done so well all his life that he's gone beyond survival to success in achieving the highest post in the land. And he's fast approaching three years in that post, despite little trace of any aptitude for it.

I watched 'Anatomy of a Scandal' on Netflix last night. The main character is James Whitehouse, Oxford educated, member of the Blue Boats Crew and the Libertines club (modelled on the Bullingdon). It's pretty much sterotypical of those surrounding BJ and BJ himself. His main trait of character is over-confidence and the basic mantra and belief of the Whitehouses is 'us Whitehouses will always end up on top'.

Trouble is, "we" let them, making it come true!

Thus the foolishness is "ours".

They believe it, not our fault but the fault of their parents. Nobody tells them off when they were kids.
